Two weapon fighting, rangers, sneak attacks

Two weapon fighting confuses me. Let's say you have a ranger with the rogue multi-class feat. In order to sneak attack, you need to be wielding a light weapon. Is it sufficient to be wielding a light weapon in the off-hand? If so, do you use the offhand weapon damage for whatever power is used...

    Power sources. What's the point?

One thing I can't figure out is what is the point of "power sources"? We spent all this time obsessing over what the 8 power sources are going to be, but powers are granted to you based on your class. I don't think feats have prerequisites based on power sources... Just on abilities, race, and...

    The New 1st Level...

I'm not so sure about that. I haven't even seen the core rulebooks yet, so right now I'm pretty bad at 1st level.

    Human Wizard (Level 1, 11, and 21)

Hmmm... your level 21 has essentially the same at-wills with essentially the same damage as your level 1 character. Something tells me that this is suboptimal. Eventually, combat comes down to at-wills and those will do nothing to your opponents.

    Initiate of the Faith feat

The rules are pretty explicit about the specific rules beating out the general rules. Healing Word saying it can be used 2/encounter is an example of that. I might just allow it 2/day if I were DM. Seems the logical way to go.

A few comments from a playtester

Seriously. I've been reading this thread off and on for a while. By off and on, I mean I keep checking the last page... and saying "Nope, they're still talking about fighters multiclassing to wizards." This isn't an argument that can be won. Agree to disagree already.

    KotS: Too Easy?(Spoilers)

Remember that he'd at least get a save before being pushed through the portal.

    KotS question: A2 => A3 (spoilers)

    (1) I think there's only supposed to be one entrance. (2) The waterfall is something like 20-30 feet across. That's a lot of water. Turn on your bathtub. Loud isn't it? And it's not even much water. How easy is it to have a conversation from your bathroom to the kitchen? And how many...

    KotS humor: Spoilers

Kalarel: Alright, Thing, the adventurers are going to be here any minute. Now, I'm going to stand in this circle, and when they move in to attack me, you get an attack of opportunity against them. Thing in the Portal: I don't get an opportunity attack when a creature moves into a threatened...

    KotS humor: Spoilers

Ooh, I had no idea we were that far along in our relationship. Does that mean I can touch your core rulebooks now? ;)

    Grunt rules: Tougher minions

So if a minion if 4 standard monsters, and requires a single hit to kill. Wouldn't it be common sense to have a type of monster between a minion and a standard monster? Something that is just a bit tougher? How about something that is worth only 1/2 a standard monster? Grunt: Requires 2 hits...

    KotS humor: Spoilers

Kalarel: So I want you to wait here in the Overtemple while I finish the ritual in the Undertemple. Underpriest of Orcus: Yes, sir. When should the ritual be over? Kalarel: In a few days. Then high priest Dunn will come and welcome Lord Orcus to the plane. Underpriest: So I just watch over...

Be sure to return Monday for a look at Fallcrest!

Hey, it could have been worse. Could have been Avalanchemonkeyburg.

Yet another look at KotSF/4th Ed.

The fighter gets free attacks against those he marks. The paladin does not. You have to use the marks differently. Also, I find it hard to take storyline complaints seriously from someone running a party with Arthur Dent and Hank the Smasher. It sounds like you and your players are playing...

Be sure to return Monday for a look at Fallcrest!

I'm not sure that's true... I know Fallcrest is the location of H2 - Thunderspire Labrynth. Perhaps it is the same though...

Are PCs expected to beat skill challenges?

The problem with it, in my book, is that it's a distraction which virtually guarantees combat failure. That combat is going to be HARD. You can't just take one guy out of it and expect to win. Now, sure most of the actions are minor actions. But still, you're putting you're wizard all alone...

    KotS Final Encounter: SPOILERS

Okay, I've looked it over again. Killing the party is much easier than I thought. Hang back with the wight. When the party tries to attack Kalarel, just use Horrible Visage on them. It's an area effect fear attack that pushes everyone 3 squares away. You can push the whole party right into...

    KotS Final Encounter: SPOILERS

And now, ideas on how to kill your party: 1) Keep the wight away from the pit and the party. Aim for paladins first. Their healing surges help keep other party members on their feat. Besides, undead hate paladins. 2) Move the skeletons to defend Kalelel, and try to get them into the circle...

    KotS Final Encounter: SPOILERS

Again, spoiler warning. Don't read if you are going to play KotS. Wow. I've finally managed to read through Keep on the Shadowfell. And that last encounter is one heck of a doozie. A level 8 elite plus skeletal soldiers plus a deathlock wight which hangs back and plunks away at the party's...

    It's the little things...

I super happy with KotS. I think it's probably one of the best adventures I've seen come out of Wizards. The paper is overly thin though. I think people would be complaining less if they had just put a thicker cover on the internal booklets.
