    Evil Campaign

My present campaign, I threw out some old preconceptions, and ran it thusly (after first confirming that the players were interested): I fielded the players individually for the archetypes and goals they wanted for their potential character. I then created three characters for each player...

    Evil Campaign

Only do this with players you kow well, and whom know each other well. It is far too easy for such a campaign to cause a rift, and let in-game actions spill over into real life. I'd skip the BoVD, and other similar stuff, but that is just me: I'm not happy about going into gruesome detailsk, or...

Best level 7/8 spells for a high level evil sorcerer?

And how would a 16th level Drow sorcerer prevent a Planetar from escaping via Plane shift? Dimensional anchor lasts a whole 1 minute / level. Finger of Death is inefficient killing IMO, one action, single target, close range, and a Fort save. It isn't going to stop the tanks. Project Image is...

Best level 7/8 spells for a high level evil sorcerer?

For an NPC sorcerer Bad guy? I've always wanted to try out simulacrum. At 800 gp to create an 8th level sorcerer follower that looks identical to you, its a bargain. 11 simulacrum and 1 real sorcerer really ups the odds of the real sorcerer getting away. And 11 x 8d6 fireballs is going to hurt...

Best level 7/8 spells for a high level evil sorcerer?

Allright (I prefer to stick with Core); 7th) Waves of Exhaustion: no save, ½'s speed, -6 to Str & Dex will seriously crimp the tanks ability to dish out damage, and manuever around the battlemap. and Plane Shift: Will touch attack to send a creature to the Negative Energy Plane. To take care...

(Yet another) Try at fixing the Fighter

I agree completely with Celebrim in his analysis. IMO Most of the problem could be solved by allowing fighters access to more, and at higher level, far better feats.

Best level 7/8 spells for a high level evil sorcerer?

So what would the PC party do when an enemy tries to surrender? Kill him? With a sorcerer, I never understand why they try to keep fighting once the enemy is within 120'. I'd either flee or surrender.

Help me fill out a high level drow raiding party

I'd chuck in a few undead and/or constructs in for melee muscle. I'd also have a backup plan to escape for each of the spellcasters.

Best level 7/8 spells for a high level evil sorcerer?

Why not get it all over with, and have the NPC just surrender? No single 8th level spell + 2 7th level spells is going to put even a moderate dent into the stride of 7 17th level PCs... and then 2 NPCs "of similar level". Given this, the smart move would be to surrender, give up, acquiesce to...

    Aquatic campaigns: Simple/Martial/Exotic Weapons

Stuff balance. I need more flavour in my game, rather than worrying about some culture getting a perceived advantage because of easier access to bastard swords. I'm all for restricting access to feats, skills, armour, weaponry, spells and even classes based on cultural and racial background.

    A double Forcecage question

That certainly sounds like lots of fun! My "Piano of God" trick has been feeling a smidgen tired.

    Alignment: Is 'always' really 'always'?

Personally, I have a strong dislike for campaigns that allow "good" undead. But that is just me, not a reflection on any particular DM. That said, it doesn't prevent an undead from doing a good deed or two on the journey through unlife. It just isn't enough to ever weigh up their horrendous...

    stages of rebellion

I like those kind of scenarios myself. I prefer the set up where it isn't immediately obvious who is the "bad" team, or that both sides have pros and cons. I know some prefer to have their Morgoth or Sauron to rail against. I prefer a more less obvious, subdued threat (at least to start with)...

    Zipping through Auckland, NZ

I think I'd rather grab Hypersmurf, stuff him in a bag, and smuggle him into Europe, so my group could refer to his encyclopaedic knowledge at will (he could stand on a pedestal by the game table instead of the completely useless (for rules questions purposes, at least) plant we have growing...

    Glitterdust

What an interesting take you had! We have always ruled it as only the creatures within the area at the time of the casting. I think your ruling makes it slightly more powerful, (nothing wrong with that). I found your interpretation quite cool, actually.

    stages of rebellion

No one has yet mentioned the effect of outside agents. Other nations, even those far away will of course be paying very close attention, and probably trying to fund / persuade / coalign activities and factions to their own causes. Add in important resources and the whole thing starts to get...

    Achieving Balance

The thing is, far too often, the discussion is around whether one class or ability or feat, or feature is "balanced" when compared to another. Ultimately, though, these discussions are placing the cart before the horse, and loosing sight of the fundamental purpose of the game: it isn't to create...

    Is this broken?

IMX, the biggest problem is getting players to actually step up and be more proactive in the game. I'd prefer to have players say they want to take down the prince, destroy the slave trade, corner the market on alchemical fire / cold iron, create a trade empire, what ever, than just slounge...
