how do you make a Fighter be not-boring?

I go even further than aboyd. IMC, fighters get a bonus feat every level, instead of only every second level. This allows fighters to gain multiple specialities, usually one melee, one ranged. I don't allow Bot9S. I do allow most feats for fighters from most sources, including some inhouse feats.

    Extended Extended Extended Extended Spell?

I never had any problem with stacking a single metamagic feat multiple times on any spell. I still allow in it games I run. Looking at Christians "overpowered" example: 7th level wizard: Each requires a ranged touch attack roll to hit. An ordinary Acid arrow (2nd level) does 6d4 damage over...

Best way to steal something from the PCs in combat?

Nice Idea, but I wouldn't. You probably don't want players trying the same trick against NPCs. A helmet is not just a hat sitting on the head: It is a snug fitting crash protection device which is also afixed under the chin and attached to the rest of the armour by latches.

Would Violate Spell & Corrupt Spell stack?

Except you're missing the point of Violate Spell. It isn't replacing the damage type. A Fireball cast by a 10th+ level spellcaster does 10d6 fire damage. A Violated Fireball cast by a 10th+ level spellcaster still does 10d6 fire damage, 5d6 of which is also vile damage. Another way of...

    Pimp my lich

Undead minions??! Last Lich in a game I ran was a Druid conjurer specialist, summoning up demonic vegetation. Who knew spinach & broccoli with templates would freak out players

    making a memorable cohort?

And here I was thinking the mere concept of good-aligned undead was wussed out.

Would Violate Spell & Corrupt Spell stack?

To be honest, I have no clue. I can see several different (house)rulings for this: 1) You can't apply corrupt spell to flamestrike, the effect is already present. 2) A mathematical interpretation: the spell now does 75% unholy damage 3) All damage is now unholy. Personally, on reflection, I'd...

Would Violate Spell & Corrupt Spell stack?

I would resolve it thusly: Vile Corrupt Fireball does 5d6 fire damage, and 5d6 unholy damage (this bypasses any fire protection the character may have). Roll these damages. Character rolls Reflex save. Half damage if made (obviously) Reduce fire damage for any fire protection items / spells...

I pray you to bear me witness that I meet my fate like a brave man.-Dying in D&D

Maybe its many players prefer to see their characters persevering in the face of adversity, rather than succumbing to it. Another reason probably is that character deaths are all too often unplanned and pathetic; during a side-adventure from the main path, facing a minor foe, a character has a...

    D&D 3.x D&D 3.5 Resurgence or Die???

Given that there is still a vibrant 1e community, with an online presence, and that many of the CRPG games for that ruleset are available online, and I expect, in time, so too will the CRPG games of the 3.x generation. This will always help to foster a small community of 3.x gamers. Check out...

Good lower level spells to bother a higher level party?

The best spells in this scenario are the simple ones that don't require saves: From the Cleric Spell list 3rd Deeper Darkness Invisibility Purge Prayer Protection from Energy if the party is known to favour some kind of energy. Wind Wall, if the party includes an archer. 2nd Silence cast on a...

Why are undead immune to mind-affecting effects?

Of course undead are immune to mind-affecting effects. You can't poison the undead. You can't inflict them with the flu. You can't woo one to fall in love with you. You can't tempt an undead with a piece of pie. You can't procreate with undead. Why should you be able to convince the undead to...

Level 8 party defeats 30 level 6 fighters?

I'd suggest preparing a bunch of silence spells, and taking out the guards in isolated groups. With the fighter and knight silenced, using the ranger or sorceror to attract a guard or three into a small area with a single entrance, shut them in, kill them quickly, rinse, repeat. If you succeed...

Potential Problems In A New AD&D Campaign

Well, looking at 1e reasons for not being an Elf: 1) Nobody is hunting your carcass to make a potion of longevity. 2) Only elves and ½-orcs are hated by two races on Racial Preferences table. 3) You can grow a beard if you elect to play a male character. 4) If using UA, Method V for generating...

Potential Problems In A New AD&D Campaign

Saw your additional post on dragonsfoot, but elected to comment on it here in ENWorld. Knowing a little about your campaign world, I'd make a few suggestions: The class limitations are there IMO to provide flavour/direction for a race/people/culture. I'm all for variants of these, and have...

'low fantasy' vs Druids: need help!

City adventures? Political adventures? Low level Undead (zombie plague?). Given that the players themselves see the problem, and that it was kind of obvious (hmmm, very low magic world, and yet a full spell-casting class, ... which also has lots of bells and whistles, such as shape-changing)...
