    No Prestige Classes

Apologies for coming into this thread when it seems to be over but I thought I'd add my 2p worth. In my 3.5 campaign I made the conscious decision to not only ban PrCs but to stick to the Core books as well (those in the SRD, that is). I didn't do it to punish powergamers or try to force...

    Hacking the drow

IMC I have amended Drow (Dark Elves) to be a +0LA race. Here is my take on the race: Darkvision 30’, in addition to Low-Light Vision Stonecunning Proficient with crossbows instead of bows -2 save vs. bright lights, e.g., Colour Spray +2 Spot & -4 Diplomacy Favoured class: Wizard (tending toward...

    Reincarnation and ECL/racial hit dice

In my campaign we have only had one reincarnation and a human came back as a different human. In my old campaign (AD&D1 modified) we had several and I house-ruled that a roll of 00 meant coming back as a Troll. Typically, every time, the caster rolled 00. As I am not too worried about an odd...

They came in search of Paradise (A Story of Erth) - Updated 23rd April

And the fun continues.... GM's note: In an effort to get the story posted, I have not been able to prrof-read this post as thoroughly as normal. Sorry for any errors. 16th October 1699 The party moved further down the passage, lit by the light-stone kicked ahead of them. Suddenly, Keldor...

They came in search of Paradise (A Story of Erth) - Updated 23rd April

Heh, me too. I've been a bit slack for a few weeks (playing KotOR2, YoHoHo Puzzle Pirates and sundry other diversions) but I have nearly completed the next update - hopefully get it on the SH this week.

the Kyri Chronicles - last updated 22 Oct

Very close. Trajan actually survived the Fireball but M'ir's Concussion thingy squashed me flat against the floor (missed my Fort save by 1 or 2. He was very apologetic for a bit.

They came in search of Paradise (A Story of Erth) - Updated 23rd April

Crime Just Doesn't Pay - Part 1 16th October 1699 During the night, Fragh the Uruk barbarian had leapt up and decided to go off in a different direction. He didn’t see any fun in killing a few measly bandits and it didn’t get him any closer to retaking his tribe. Boldo, feeling that his new...

    Sense Motive Use

Sounds like an in-game use for Craft: Armoursmith. A skilled armour manufacturer should be able to say how protective an opponent's armour would be. Perhaps a level check (DC20?) might give an insight into how "dodgy" he looks.

    Wound Points and Vitality Points

We tried them and didn't like them. They work fine for Star Wars, but just didn't feel right in D&D. Just too different, I guess. What we do nowadays is have people being able to take more damage and stay alive. IMC a character dies when he is taken to Minus (CON + Level) hit points. Increases...

    NPC Tactics and CR ratings..

Don't forget that, according to the DMG, 5% of encounters should be up to 5 levels above the party. Chuck in an occasional CR12 gribbly, or a bunch of CR9s. Does you good to see a party run away once on a while. For my money, PCs always hit well above their weight. My group are average level...

    Why do we need Fumbles?

Short answer: you don't need 'em. Slightly longer answer: you don't need them, but they can serve to balance the ability to Critical. I reason that if a character can make such an exceptional strike that he does triple damage, it stands to reason that he could also make such a balls-up of his...

    Help with character motivation

Are you intending to become a Knight as a woman or only reveal your sex after you have been knighted? Maybe she's in love with a Knight and thinks that joining him is the only way they can be together. Maybe she has always had her fighting skills belittled and wants to earn respect and show...

    Wow, seriously munchkin-monk feat!

Playing as both DM and a player

I don't do it as a rule but in my current campaign the PCs all chose to be fighters or arcane casters so I added an NPC Cleric to keep them alive for the first few levels.

    Is this fair?

Yep, unless you are giving the assassins some overpowered items, it looks OK to me.

Help w/ my cleric character? Please?

Using Silent/Still Healing spells would get your troops up without drawing too much attention to you. Wands of Metamagic would help here. You are always going to be outclassed by a maxed-out Ftr 19 (of any sort). Best to avoid that situation if at all possible, definitely if not hugely buffed...

Help w/ my cleric character? Please?

Here are some thoughts: Being hit a lot is a problem: go for items that give you DR, Deflection and/or Invulnerability. Going up against powerful spellchuckers: maybe go for stuff to give you a good SR and buffed saves and take Spell Penetration feats. My general advice would be not to focus...

    paladin mount

Sounds like a neat idea to me. The only trouble I could see would be keeping it in line wrt. hit dice. Half-Dragon template is +3ECL. I would rule: Apply the template and count it as a mount of a Paladin of his level - 3. That would mean that it would get it's first +2 HD and STR upgrade at...

    What goes first?

Ooh, that's a toughie. I would have ruled it the other way round, but that's not very helpful in your situation. Then again, if I were Jon, I would have pulled my strength, in an attempt to not kill Bob.
