    An Evil party... Troublesome?

Yep, as soon as the party start killing each other I'll know that they have lost interest in the game, which is my cue to hand over the DM chair.

    An Evil party... Troublesome?

My current party is 'evil', though there a couple of CNs. The problems I have encountered are mostly with party cohesion and introducing new characters. There is a lot more 'me, me, me' play with them being evil and they have a tendency to not work together. Maybe being evil characters brings...

    Now this Sucks

Paladin, Samurai. Same same. Overblown sense of honour and should be more into rooting out the bad guy than hunting for gold. Can't explain why I wrote Paladin. Probably points to some deep psychosis. Hey ho.

    Now this Sucks

The party split up. Questionable. The Paladin wanted to search the room. Why? Was he after loot or something? The Paladin proceeded to pull levers and walk across the room. Suicidal or merely insane? My take: Never split the party unless all sub-parties have all the bases covered (or they know...

    Re-trying 1st Ed.

I enjoyed playing and running 1e. Wouldn't say no to a game, either. I sometimes find the never-ending character options for 3/3.5e too much and hanker after the simpler days of 1e. Sigh. Feats, I can live without them. Skills, substitute Int/Dex/Str rolls. 1e spellchuckers kick ass, as do 1e...

Quick Question: Attacks of Op in the Suprise Round

I understand what you are saying and I agree with pretty much all of it. The quoted text above is at the heart of my interpretation - I think that an AoO is an act, therefore I don't think you can make one if you are unaware of the attacker. That's it, really. I don't see any problem with...

Quick Question: Attacks of Op in the Suprise Round

The former. The latter is silly. Having re-read my posts I didn't think I was being particularly obtuse. [Edit] No, I did not want to be flamed, I just realise that there are some posters out there who seem to view disagreement as a personal insult.

Removing yourself from a gaming group

I feel so sorry for the players who have suffered from crap DMs/groups. I have never walked from a group (with some subtractions/additions, my group is effectively the same one we started at college in 1980) though I have declined to participate in some games. The worst time we had was when my...

    Star Wars Saga Edition?

Reasonable, but on the flipside they need to make sure SWSE doesn't head down the splatbook route that, to my mind, has devalued Core D&D.

Quick Question: Attacks of Op in the Suprise Round

Frank, the voice of sanity. Many posters here seem very confused. To me, doing something (whatever that is) is an action. To hopefully explain my thoughts on this subject: Noticing the head full of teeth that has surprisingly appeared and is aimed at your (or your comrade's) head is not an...

    Star Wars Saga Edition?

Doh. Missed that in my skim through. However, just to show that I can nitpick as well as any other ENWorlder, I'd have preferred something like a number of uses equal to the number of Force Powers. Having to choose a Force Power twice to be able to use it twice still sounds too much like D&D...

DMs are too easy on their players

Nice. And in answer to your original post... Yes. And No.

To be or Not to be (undead), that is the question.

IMC a while ago, the party discovered a sword which, after the first successful attack, turned the wielder into a Wight (applied a template with many of the features of a Wight). They discussed it for about half an hour. Some said no immediately, the fighter-types recalculated hit points and...

Quick Question: Attacks of Op in the Suprise Round

That says to me that Combat Reflexes would indeed allow AoO in the surprise round, as anyone unaware is flat-footed. Personally, I'd house-rule that in a surprise round, anyone unaware of the attack cannot act in the surprise round, Combat Reflexes or not. Just my view. Feel free to disagree.

Quick Question: Attacks of Op in the Suprise Round

The rules say 'flat-footed', not 'surprised'. There is a wrinkle with Immediate Actions (damned psions) but, generally, if you are surprised, you don't get to act. The surprise round is not the first round of combat. That starts with initiative being rolled. If your initiative is lower than...

    Star Wars Saga Edition?

The only bit I didn't like was the 'only use each force power once'. It didn't feel like the films to me. After all, how many times did Palpatine use Force Lightning on Mace Windu/Luke Skywalker? At least three times each. Add all the pod-throwing in the senate chamber, multiple uses of the Jedi...

Open door as part of a move

Don't think this would work if opening the door required more than pushing a button. Fine for Sci-Fi but turning a handle and swinging a door open takes longer than 'no time'.
