    D&D vs Runequest?

Ducks? Pah. Baboons? Now we're talking. Morokanth? Three fingers and no thumbs so can only use spears. Can Quest to get magical thumbs. What a fantastic game.

    TWF + Flurry of Blows?

Had this very question from one of my players last month (he has a rogue and thought about taking monk levels) and, after thinking it through, we agreed that they didn't stack. Houserule or not, it works for us.

    Old Times hardships and obstacles

Hmm. We never had a 'let's pretend that fight never happened' and we didn't do do-overs (except after Psionic Precognition, but that's another matter entirely). We didn't start over at 1st. Upon death the new character came in at half the olds one's XPs. And, yes, to get the dozen or so...

What is the longest you've ever played a single PC?

Thing is, it took longer to level in the old days. Now, a 20th level whatever needs 20k XP. In 1e a 20th level wizard needed 250k XP. In my previous 1e campaign, that lasted something like 14-15 years, the only surviving original character got to (I think) 16th Ranger/9th Cleric, or something...

    Leadership & Followers

When my players take Leadership they either set them up as staff at their base of operations (temple, brothel, underground vault to name but three) or forget about them. If I decided that a BBEG would go after a character's base, they would become important otherwise detailing them is unnecessary.

what would be a good idea for a cohort for this character?

Dread Wraith with an extra couple of dice?

    D&D quickstart rules

If you want to introduce them gently try giving them very basic characters for the first game, perhaps, just fighters and rogues. This will get them used to initiative, to hit and damage, etc., without getting bogged down with the minutiae. Then, add complications (magic, feats, etc.) as...

    D&D vs Runequest?

Looks similar to original RQ but it's not the same. The Original was the best. Comparing it with D&D: If you want to buy a single slim book that gives you pretty much all the information you need to run and play in a game, original RQ is your game. Add Cults of Prax and Cults of Terror (if...

    This legal by RAW?

    Bust them to Primate.

    Incremental Levels

Sounds a bit like Warhammer RPG.

    This legal by RAW?

Easy answer - he's making it all up as he goes along. Ask to see his source material. Better still, get the DM to ask. Then bust his character back down to Private.

    Magic Of Incarnum?

It's sort of OK but IMO you have to ensure that it is the only type of magic available. Wouldn't use it myself, though.

    How strong are you BBEGs?

CR+4, sometimes more. I don't always expect my players to kill the BBEG. Sometimes their task is merely to foil him. Sometimes I expect them to bug out and call it even.

DMs are too easy on their players

So let me get this straight... Seemingly common occurance: DM places a challenge in front of the party. They have already had several challenges without the chance to rest. <Players> Hang on. We're low on spells and HP and there's another encounter? <DM> Yep. Roll initiative. <Players> That's...

    Book of NineSwords

I have only given BoNS a cursory glance but I didn't see anything broken. Really bent out of shape, but not actually broken. Didn't see anything that made me think, "I have to allow this book in my game". It all comes down to gaming style. If your players powergame, you could have trouble...

    Dungeon campaign

If you intend to have wandering monsters interrupting the party's rest then either they'll quit or you'll have to allow Rope Trick, just so the casters can recover spells. Herobizkit, seconded. Make sure your players understand the game style. If they are cool with the restrictions implicit...

Vorpal: DMs, Players, Games, and Snicker-Snack

Never used it, even in 1e. Crit = dead is not something I'd inflict on my players, unless they tried it first. :] I'd use it if I had reasonable rules for limb loss. Hmm, now there's a thought. Oh, and scripted encounters never go as intended, specifically because they are scripted and you...
