Of course those are not mutually exclusive goals.

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

Let's be honest, what you really want is for WotC to make the game exactly the way you want it: The mechanics you want The lore you want The writing you want The art you want I bet that is what we all secretly want to some extent, even if we don't admit it to ourselves. PS - For the purpose...

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

well it is easier to look back at something you liked previously and is no longer present than to make up something new that you in truth have very little idea if it would actually work well in play.

It did take a lot of effort as it was also a birthday party. There is a picture somewhere of me, after the party, asleep on the battle map with our cat sleeping on me!

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

I am sure it comes down to a lot of things. My group of veteran players can make a PC in much less than 30 min. Heck I can probably do it in 5 min. and I never play (forever DM). However, if you have to read every section of the PHB to make a decision than yes, that will take some time.

It definitely depends. I had a group of 10-year-olds (7 of them) all create characters in 30 min before we had a 2.5 hour adventure. My son and I were the only ones who had played before. It definitely doesn't have to take 2 hours to create a character in 5e.

Similar ideas to others, but here is what I would want. Same basic mathematic foundation as 5e (use 5e adventures with little conversion) Reduce classes to 3 or 4. Arcane Divine Martial Expert (maybe - I feel this could possible be part of martial) Talent / feat trees replace subclasses and...

D&D 5E (2024) What books would you like to see (in 2026 and beyond)?

I will say WotC track record with immortal level content was not been the best.

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

I mean you don't really need a stat above 16 in 5e. You could play a 1-20 campaign with a max stat of 16 and be 100% fine. It could actually be pretty awesome. You are talking about a +2 difference. That just isn't a big deal IME. We max stats at 18 in our game and at level 15 we still have...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

well that is disappointing. I preferred DS when I thought magic was much less of an option. Oh well, I can always make changes if I ever want to run the setting

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

Sure, but it isn't very thematic as "defiling" IMO.

So like all humans throughout history then?!

That was it? Not very inspired, IMO. Definitely doesn't live up to the name!

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

Theros essentially took a bunch of options off the table. From Theros: A diverse assortment of peoples dwell among the lands of Theros. Aside from humans, the races in the Player’s Handbook are unknown on Theros, unless they’re visiting from other worlds. This chapter provides information...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

I am familiar with the setting, but not he old mechanics. What did defiling do mechanically in AD&D. I was under the impression that magic using classes were simply banned in DS, I didn't realize there was a mechanic that let you use magic through defiling.

D&D's The Book of Dragons Comes Out in August

Personally I assume any and all information about entities as great as deities and their ilk is unreliable / not wholly accurate

D&D's The Book of Dragons Comes Out in August

Yes, the have mind flayer dragons and dracohydras but not the other chromatic or metallic dragons. It is a bit odd IMO as well.

D&D's The Book of Dragons Comes Out in August

Not exactly. The 2nd paragraph of the Tiamat section states: "Many scholars believe that Tiamat was a primordial dragon who helped form the Material Plane with her brother Bahamut." And Bahamut is describe as "A primordial dragon so massive he dwarfs..." Also, both Tiamat's Lament and The...
