D&D 5E (2024) The New Direct Damage Spells You Should Be Using.

Truestike has an 80' range, 360 with disadvantage. 100' if you get martial weapons. And nothing stops you from swapping to melee if needed. Depens on the party too. I'm in a group with a pike polearm master wild heart barbarian (bonus action dash + disengage, reaction push), and a ranged...

D&D 5E (2024) Multiclassing: Slots and Prepared Spells

No. Multiclass rules don't mention the spell book at all. It only indirectly applies with prepared spells, which is the same as an appropriate level wizard.

D&D 5E (2024) The New Direct Damage Spells You Should Be Using.

I'm not sure i can sell you it as the only damage cantrip, there are just too many ways for it to be useless. But i could definitely see it as a pair. Possibly using it 70% of the time, with sorcerer's burst as the other 30%. And I do wonder about mind sliver as well, for being the most...

This thread is about damage. I like ray of frost more of the time.

D&D 5E (2024) Multiclassing: Slots and Prepared Spells

In 2014 the was a loophole about writing higher spells to a spell book, but it looks like that was fixed for 2024. "Each of these spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots, as shown in the Wizard Features table." "you can copy it into your spellbook if it’s of a level you can...

D&D 5E (2024) Multiclassing: Slots and Prepared Spells

By looking at the wizard class as if you where a single class wizard. "If you are a level 4 Ranger / level 3 Sorcerer, for example, you can prepare five level 1 Ranger spells, and you can prepare six Sorcerer spells of level 1 or 2 (as well as four Sorcerer cantrips)." There is more. "Once you...

D&D 5E (2024) Multiclassing: Slots and Prepared Spells

Each class has it's own seprate prepared spells restricted by the class level. Wizard 3 can prepared level 2 wizars spells. You combine the slots as per the multiclass table (except warlock). You can any cast prepared spell in any slot (including warlock). Which leads to upcasting spells...

You are correct. That's what I get for doing math while I walk. Fair. But you don't get to choose when that happens. Which would makes firebolt even better.

D&D 5E (2024) When will we get errata?

I wouldn't expect it. There where tricks in 2014 (life cleric + goodberry) that where only fixed in 2024. Though I don't know any DM that would allow it. So maybe 2034?

0.0739% Not really. It's the exact same chance as the first time you rolled it. And the d10 has the same chance as the first roll as well. So if you include crits what is more likely to deal 21+ damage? And what about 5+? I did the other math, you can so this one. (Or I'll probably circle...

5 damage *.50 = +2.5 4d8 -> 4d10 is +4. Here's the distributions if you want to look at it. https://anydice.com/program/3c8bb Or deal 30 damage to something with 3 health. Agreed.

25% chance for +5 damage = +1.25 which is less than +2 damage from 2d8 -> 2d10. That's the trade-off. Slightly less damage, but a choice of damage type. Also, Eldritch Blast does the most damage as force. So still the winner. Doesn't matter. The damage per die is SB: 5.0625 per exploding...

    D&D 5E (2024) What is compatible with 2024?

To be a bit more correct. Per WotC, all the unchanged subclass and feats are still officially supported. If it was updated, they want you to use the update.

    D&D 5E (2024) What is compatible with 2024?

There are certainly builds that broke with the changes, but much of that was intended, preventing certain combinations to improve game balance. Per WotC, all the old subclass and feats are still officially supported. Again the only subclass I'm aware of that would have issues is Shephard...

D&D 5E (2024) The New Direct Damage Spells You Should Be Using.

I agree Truestrike and Chromatic Orb are top damage spells at lower levels, and they upscale pretty well too. But Sorcerer's Burst is slightly lower damage than Firebolt or Eldritch Blast. Basically a d9 vs a d10 (5.0625 vs 5.5) Empowered or crits don't change that. It's versatile, but nothing...

    D&D 5E (2024) What is compatible with 2024?

Everything is still compatible. You can, and I have, played with 2014 and 2024 characters in the same campaign (Strahd) without issue. The key changes are Subclasses start at level 3. Wizard can take an old subclass, and get the 1 or 2 subclass stuff at level 3. (Reduces multiclass dips)...

D&D General To multiclass or not to multiclass

I'm not sure what this difference in the poll is. Getting subclass is often part of the concept (i.e. a dark knight who is fighter and dips for shadow monk). But 5.5 made multiclassing a lot more balanced with straight class, mainly with subclasses starting at 3.

WotC Would you buy WotC products produced or enhanced with AI?

I think this is going to be the key in the future. More so than it is now. My dog is happy, even if he can't do anything of "value". Sure. But a lot more jobs are on the chopping block too. I expect a big societal change will happen when self driving trucks roll out. That's a very large...
