    Mediterranean

Right now I'm writing a Mediterranean-theme campaign as well. I want to make the world high-magic, but I've been wrestling what to do with airships. Because I like 'em, but if they exist then it obsoletes naval combat. Right now I'm considering making Airships more like blimps, rather than...

What do you want WOTC to release as the next 4e campaign setting?

I don't understand why so many people are gunning for Greyhawk. Its too similar to Forgotten Realms imho, with campaign settings coming out so slowly genre variety would be nice. I voted for Ravenloft, because its the only setting I can see myself enjoying a "Points of Light" world. (I'm kinda...

How heroic should a PC be?

I think PCs should be more powerful. I play D&D to have the fun of doing crazy heroics, not some Joe working his way up the corporate ladder to get to the fun stuff. When I think of D&D I think of crazy magic, enormous Dragons, and death-defying stunts. And 4E is built pretty well for that. It's...

What Are the 5 or 10 Best DM Resources ---USABLE REGARDLESS OF EDITION?

This is an awesome idea for a thread. I'm hoping to see more material in this thread that is not published by gaming companies. Some useful material I've gleaned from creative writing courses are "How to Write a Damn Good Novel" by James Frey and "Characters, Emotion & Viewpoint" by Nancy...

What to get in d20's last gasp?

Book of Templates by goodman games is awesome. It's the best way I've found to stat up monsters for 3.X D&D. If you're looking for adventure paths, I would like to pump the Drow Saga by Mongoose publishing. It's a level 1-30 3.Xadventure path split up into 3 mega-adventures, and it has...

Vampires, Pop Culture, and Your Game

I voted for the modern Vampire, but to be honest I'm kinda sick of all those tropes. In my campaign, Vampires are actually holy creatures sent down to the mortal world to "suck the evil" out of society. (i.e. "bad blood") They have all the superhuman strength and supernatural powers. (but...

    Cleric multiclass pros and cons

Clerics have a great range of powers, with both strong melee and ranged options, and fantastic utilities. So I doubt you'll want to do much power-swapping. The stuff that Clerics miss out on are good class features (which you can't get from multiclassing) and skills. So I would say go with...

"Legal" paladin trickery Forked Thread: Would you allow this paladin in your game?

I don't see why drow "poison" would be against the paladin code. If anything, tranquilizing your opponents so you can (take them to trial)/(punish them more severely) is more moralistic than hacking someone's body parts apart and giving them a quick death.

How did I not see a beholder?

Yeah I counted 15 and saw the gorilla. But then again, I'm a pretty good visual learner and a fairly poor audio learner. I was actually expecting some passes between black and white to screw things up, so I didn't tunnel on the whites alone. It made the gorilla pretty obvious.

To all D&D fans - what are the top 3 specific changes 4e needs in your opinion

-Better multiclassing -More at-will attacks -Nuke the ridiculous stupid 4E economy and reinstate something similar to 3E

    Zero-sum game

I dunno, I think there are some zero-sum elements to D&D. If the idea was just to have fun, then all the PCs might as well cheat on their die rolls and have all their hits be criticals. Or the PCs might as well be incredibly cheesy races, like Dragons or Dopplegangers. Or have level 30 equipment...

Breathing New Life into your Monsters

I love the trolls-as-dragon-troops idea. That makes perfect sense for my campaign world where dragons genetically engineered 1/2 of the races on the planet. This doesn't fall so much under recreating monsters, but I've tried to break racial stereotypes in my campaign world. Hobgoblins are...

The Half-Level Bonus - Angel or Devil?

I'm a fan of it. I think that its about right that an 18 Str level 1 fighter has about the same level of combat accuracy (if not damage) as an 8 Str level 10 wizard with a weapon proficiency feat. After all, the level 10 wizard is going to be seeing -- and adventuring -- with far better tutors...

I wish I could give XP just for the Torgo reference =/

    Stupidity or Genius?

Yeah I think its a stupid tactic. As other posters have said, a bluff check to play dead would be appropiate, probably with a circumstance bonus. Or if you really wanted to be hardcore, coup de grace yourself so the demon doesn't get the opportunity. However, punching yourself in the face...

    Beginner's Guide to Cross-gender PCs

It depends upon the maturity level of your group. We all know the type -- the 30-year-still-prepubscent-male-gamer who uses D&D as a replacement for social interaction. If you have one of those gamers in your group, don't bother playing a cross-gender PC. The hassle you'll get from other PCs...

The best D&D books (Regardless of Edition)

I loved the Van Richten guides. I wish there were more products like that. (And nah the "slayers guide to..." series didn't do it for me) I also continue to use the world builder's guidebook. One truly awesome book I haven't seen mentioned yet is 3E's stronghold builder's guidebook. Man my...

    Your character died, now what?

As a player, I usually let dead dogs lie, unless the dead character is central to the plot. D&D isn't very fun to me unless there's a real danger of you losing a character you care alot about. I hate playing in games where DMs pull punches so every player plays 1 PC from campaign start to...

How Might D&D Religions Differ From Real Life Religions?

I'm assuming you're asking about the core religions... To be honest I don't see them having as much an impact as modern-day religions. Because every god has a tight portfolio, there's no single god with all the answers. It's difficult to tout yourself as "the one true God" when there's lots of...
