    Adding Templates to Solo Creatures...

There's a green dragon in the Draconomicon with what is essentially the warlock template - has to be one of the biggest stat blocks I've ever seen. I think they just applied the template's abilities without increased defenses or hit points, and then gave the dragon a few levels to reflect the...

Any way to make PHB2 come out faster?

You could hibernate for a few weeks. I'm waiting for Jack99's "I GOT IT, SUCKERS" thread. You know how they roll in Denmark.

From the new SRD: Monsters in the MM2

Vargouille! Yessssss! Now I don't have to make my own. This growing list... pleases me.

    Ampersand: Monsters, Minis, Ammo

Wow, you guys sure are noobs at this rust monster breeding thing. Been there, done that, lesson learned. Don't you know that rust monsters in captivity make caged panda bears look horny? We've already broken the 4e economy wide open anyway - trollskin *anything*. Shoes, jackets, hats, greeting...

Are You Using the 4E Forgotten Realms as a Setting?

I'm using bits & pieces of the 4e FR for my homebrew campaign, such as the spellplague and various monsters and NPCs. I'll probably snatch a few locations too, but have yet to do so.

    Lava?

@ Dr Ruminahui - Yeah, I saw that encounter. The lava there does 20d6 fire damage and I think there's ongoing damage too once you extricate yourself from the mess. Not that I think you'll be alive long enough to save against the damage, of course.

    The monster 'crit' problem

I don't think your average monster needs the extra damage from critical hits - your average monster won't have a magic weapon anyway. That being said, if you really want to dish out some pain to your PCs, equip important/elite/solo monsters with a level-appropriate magic item for the extra...

    Skill Chellenges - unfun?

    Mmmmmm... like lobster.

A couple abilities in Martial Power seem WAY too good...

Well I like to give all of the defender's class features some action. The fighter locked down a troll for the entire battle on Thursday, but the other one got away - not without getting an imm. reaction slap from the fighter though! And sometimes I'll ignore the paladin's challenge to attack the...

Draconomicon: Shadow Dragons of Different Age Classes

No to both. The DMG gives guidelines but suggests that you don't raise or lower a monster's level more than 5. I'd suggest looking at other dragons of a level you want to use and swap powers. Use the younger dragon's hit points, defenses, etc. but substitute in whatever makes a shadow dragon a...

D&D 4E Paladins - The first 4e class to fail

Well I must say that the only paladin I've seen in play is a dragonborn, so that right there helps to alleviate the MAD issues a bit. He mixes & matches weapon & implement powers as he levels depending on what he feels has been useful, so we've seen quite a few of the powers in play already. He...

A couple abilities in Martial Power seem WAY too good...

Hehe, as a DM I provoke OAs all the time to get at those soft PCs... I was pretty impressed with the Str/Con dwarf fighter right from the beginning. His 3rd highest stat is Wis which helps keep his Will up, and he uses a heavy shield; thus, his lowest defense is Ref, but as a long-time D&D...

    Excerpt - Rituals

Create Sandwich ftw! I'm so dropping that ritual into a treasure parcel somewhere just to see the reaction from my PCs.

A couple abilities in Martial Power seem WAY too good...

Now that I can get behind! Hmmmm, true. When I see 3 out of 6 stats as high as they can go I don't really think any were "sacrificed," but you have a good point - that 20 Con could be Wis instead.

A couple abilities in Martial Power seem WAY too good...

Most minions don't have some form of ranged attack. In the MM the only minions with ranged attacks are the very low-level ones, like skeletons, halflings, humans, and kobolds. If you're allowing a BRV fighter then it's probably a good idea to give most of your minions ranged weapons/attacks...

A couple abilities in Martial Power seem WAY too good...

None of these characters are getting temporary hit points as frequently as a BRV fighter. Every time you attack him with a melee or close attack the fighter gets his hp. The paladin is only getting them 1/round with his strike - hit him three times and his hp will cushion 1 blow, and maybe take...

At-will class powers ruining my archetypes

So how soon is this change going to be implemented (looks like your mind was made up many pages ago so it's only a matter of time)? I'm curious to hear how no at-wills/more encounter powers works out in play!

    WoTC March 2009 Editorial Calendar

Looks like a good month! Codex, Ecology & Bestiary in the same issue makes me a happy DM. Assassin article should be fun too! Gah, I don't want to wait that long for the PHB2...

    Swordmage 4e Your Experiences?

@ Obryn: Serpentskin hide is awesome - my swordmage has a suit of it too. I definitely agree that the more mobility a swordmage has, the better off he his. Make your mark chase you, provoking OAs, or leave him to attack someone else and use your aegis. Win/win!

    Swordmage 4e Your Experiences?

Agreed. With 1 point of AC higher than the fighter in my group, 2-handing a sword would make me 1 less than him. Not bad at all. Playing a stormsoul genasi assaultmage and it's great fun. Sometimes I wonder what it would've been like to go eladrin for even more teleporty goodness, but I love my...
