Inspire Courage + Greatness + Heriocs

Ah, but you seem to have missed my point. As written, you can maintain mutiple songs at once, if none of them require concentration. That's that way it is written, and that's what I am not allowed to do by my DM (which I am not trying to overrule; that ship has sailed :)). As written, you can...

Inspire Courage + Greatness + Heriocs

Mind you , my DM won't allow this :), but, by the rules, could one have inspire Courage, Inspire Greatness and Inspire Heroics all going at once? It requires a Standard Action to activate each of these, but no action is required to maintain them. However, "...Even while using bardic music that...

Can I use a ray to make a called shot?

A few rules quotes, to pull it all together: Taken together, the way I read all this is: 1. Attacking held or worn (not including armor) objects is done with a melee weapon using "Sunder" rules. 2. You aim a ray as if using a ranged weapon. 3. You cannot use a ranged weapon to aim at...

This is going to look pathetic ...

See http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/cwc/20060328a This tells you a lot, but you'd still need the book to actual make one. You could also use the non-WotC Artficer Prestige Class at http://rumkin.com/reference/dnd/prestige/artificer.html if you just want [b]some[b/] of the flavor...

Inspire Greatness -- Bonus Hit Dice?

Yep. It all depends on how you view Hit Die vs. Spell Effects. It's generally, but not always, true.

Inspire Greatness -- Bonus Hit Dice?

True enough. I could see this being played out either way.

Inspire Greatness -- Bonus Hit Dice?

Can we get back on-topic? I am very interested in reponses to my position on Inspire Greatness.

Would this be using Bluff or Diplomacy?

Bluff: If successful, the "stretching the truth" bit is accepted at face value. Diplomacy: Is Bluff fails but Dimplomacy succeeds, then the "lie" (or whatever" is not believed, but brushed off and forgiven. In other word, great Spin Control. Kind of like the recent blow-up with Hilllary...

Balancing Vow of Poverty at 18th level

Another thing to consider is the Saint template. It's LA+2, but there are rules in some book or other (I don't recall which ) or dealing with that, as LA becomes less relevant at high levels and you can "buy off" the LA, I think. That's all kind of fuzzy and I don't remember how it works...

Inspire Greatness -- Bonus Hit Dice?

Again, out of context. The full rule is: Starting Level of a Monster PC Monsters suitable for play have a level adjustment given in their statistics. Add a monster’s level adjustment to its Hit Dice and class levels to get the creature’s effective character level, or ECL. Effectively, monsters...

Inspire Greatness -- Bonus Hit Dice?

Let's follow the logic about what the rules say about advancement/improvement, ignoring templates (as they are not relevant): 1. A PC normally advances using the rules in the PHB. That is, by class level. 2. A monster may be "improved" by either adding HD or class levels. 3. When...

Inspire Greatness -- Bonus Hit Dice?

Interesting. Let's see... Hmmm, if the negative levels were by spell effect, there is an excellent argument that he would not die until getting 12 total negative levels (an extra 2 to offset the bonus HD), since the HD explicity apply to spells. I don't think the rules are prefectly clear...

Inspire Greatness -- Bonus Hit Dice?

If that were so, then what happens, say, when gaining a second level in the class "acquired" one level ago? This is not the discrete event of "acquiring a character class," so, by your own reasoning, everyone should advance by type for every advancement past the aquiring of the very first class...

    Artificer's Bonus Feats

    1. Generally, true, but not always. There are definately some monster rules that do not apply to characters, design philosophy notwithstanding. 2. Gnoll's advance by Character Class only. Once advancing by class, even if they get any additional bonus feats, they would not be "...one or...

Inspire Greatness -- Bonus Hit Dice?

Well, no - the rules give NO guidance here, so it needs to be defined where it happens. Correct. There are no rules for what happens, so it needs to be defined where it happens. Actually, it does say that. It say, "Note that if a creature acquires a character class..." Whatever is past...

Inspire Greatness -- Bonus Hit Dice?

That's a tough question - I guess I would need to see a clear rule that overides the character advancement and monster improvement rules. Characters are presented as advancing (aka improving) solely by level (with some possible optional exceptions in expansion books) Monsters improve by adding...

Inspire Greatness -- Bonus Hit Dice?

No. When you gain a level you gain a HD, but not HD features. I suppose one could even make a character class where one did not gain a HD, but that would be more than a little odd.

Inspire Greatness -- Bonus Hit Dice?

No... Characters gain LEVELS and LEVEL features. Hit dice happen to be one of those thigns you gain with a level. Features dependent upon hit dice are described for monsters in that special monster improvement table. All that stuff happens with leveling by class when you are improving with...

Balancing Vow of Poverty at 18th level

I think you'll find a monk-like characters with Vow of Poverty are competitive with others, even at 18th level. No adjustments are really needed. I ran one, and had great fun and never felt handicapped. Mostly, I had fewer choices because of not choosing amongst various equiment options.
