D&D 5E (2014) Light Spell on a stick and then breaking it into two limbs?

The spell ends. Feel free to recast it on one of your two Pieces of Stick.

D&D 5E (2014) Most played classes in your local gaming area?

How do you vote for "ranger/rogue" and "anything/warlock 2" because those are by far the most common ;)

D&D 5E (2014) Do you allow fan made material in your games?

I don't even allow all of the officially published material in my games. I don't even allow all of the Player's Handbook at once.

    D&D 5E (2014) Naval Combat? :)

I played in a swashbuckling game that took place almost entirely at sea. Our ship was our home. Ship to ship combat was heavily abstracted. Group and individual ability checks were used to set the initial conditions for a boarding action. We basically moved to boarding actions as quickly as...

D&D 5E (2014) Identify a spell as it is cast?

Having a player roll an ability check in the middle of a monster's turn, and then use that information to make a decision, potentially with the other players weighing in? Takes up far more table time than I am comfortable with. Either tell them or don't, depending on your taste and the kind...

D&D 5E (2014) Surprisingly Lethal Side Effect of Multiattack

Playing the monsters like monsters? A big, powerful monster like, say, an earth elemental won't distinguish between a armored human with a sword and a human wearing just clothes. It won't notice a few extra sword swipes. If it's coming at the players with hostile intent, its coming at the...

D&D 5E (2014) Surprisingly Lethal Side Effect of Multiattack

Spread out the attacks amongst multiple characters, even if that provokes opportunity attacks from your players. Throw some grapples and shoves (away to disrupt player positioning, down to make the follow up attack more reliable, yet less lethal) just to mix it up a bit.

Most Anticipated RPG of 2017: The Official Poll!

The second edition of Monsterhearts wasn't up there, but I have to say that's what I'm most excited to get my hands on.

D&D 5E (2014) Should I use the Gauntlets of Ogre Strength? [Spoilers from Mines of Phandelver]

Bear in mind that you can use Strength to attack with a finesse weapon and still get sneak attack. So the Gauntlets will boost your attacks with darts or swords until you get your Dexterity up, in addition to the other benefits everyone else has already pointed out. I'd go with the Gauntlets.

D&D 5E (2014) Do you use the flanking rule?

I think that appropriately enforcing the cover rules for ranged attack rolls will encourage the melee combatants to move around plenty. Allies between you and your target grant the target half-cover, most map-and-minis DMs that I've played with forget about that.

D&D 5E (2014) Do you use the flanking rule?

Oh gods no, no if my players want advantage in combat, they can Help, Hide, or Improvise.

    D&D 5E (2014) Multiclassing: A pathological extreme

Why not just use a component pouch?

Local & Regional Coordinators are no more

So, is the league entirely unregulated now? Who I talk to if I'm harassed during an online game?

    D&D 5E (2014) CHALLENGE: Change one thing about 5e

Change one thing? Make the "using skills with alternate abilities" variant rule a core part of the system. Fully decouple the skills from the abilities modifiers.

D&D 5E (2014) Warlock Magic Item Christmas Wish list

Well, what kind of warlock are you making? What do you imagine them doing, and what role are they playing in the party? Are you the kind of player that enjoys doubling down on things that you are already very good at, or do you enjoy expanding the array of options available to you?

    D&D 5E (2014) Vampire Query

Drop them to 0 hit points while they're in a Moonbeam spell. The vampire's "Misty Escape" feature says, "If it can't transform, it is destroyed". Moonbeam says that shapechangers, once they fail their save against the spell, can't assume a different form until they leave the spell's light...

    D&D 5E (2014) Playable Orc, minor rework

None whatsoever, as far as I can tell. You can even remove the stat penalty. I'd recommend brewing up something for yourself. Poor orcs deserved better.

Removing The Stat Penaly on Volo's Guide Orcs

Ditch the penalty and don't bother capping the stat. Just build a race that is mechanically, a little lopsided. Give the orc racial traits that are weighted towards roles, classes, and builds that you'd like to see most often. Think Half Orc compared to Mountain Dwarf.

D&D 5E (2014) In combat riding and movement

+1 to what's already been said on this page. Let the owl use the mounting/dismounting rules to perch/unperch from her human's shoulders. (It's not as simple as alighting on a tree branch.) Don't bother tracking the human's movement and then subtracting that from the owl's movement. Embrace...

Volo's Guide AL Rules - You can play them all!

The Goliath's possible lack of restriction, depending on what you make your +1, just strikes me as an odd snag to an otherwise common sense rule that is too much trouble to patch, and harmless if you leave it in. It'd be too difficult ask anyone with an already-extant Goliath PC from Season 2...
