D&D 4E Have you ever run 4e using just Essentials?

Regarding the big D&D announcement about the next version coming out: You can get on the bus, letting someone else drive and hope they take you where you want to go. But when you feel like you missed your stop, don't just sit there and get pulled away from your destination. Have the courage to...

D&D General One Piece of Art IV (Races)- What D&D Art Inspired You to Love a Race (Lineage, Ancestry)

Artist: Clyde Caldwell Title: The Worm Has Turned Race: Human (Class: Fighter/Warrior) Look at this picture and tell me again why playing a human (or a fighter) is "boring". Or better yet, tell her that. I think she may have some strong opinions on that subject.

    D&D 5E (2024) DM's no longer getting crits on PC's

Thanks for clarifying. I'll need to update my jokes. Personally, I liked how 4e did it (like so many other things it did). You score maximum damage on your damage dice, and then rolled extra dice. Some items even had special crit effects or crit dice. At least I think that's how it works...

D&D General One Piece of Art II (Monsters)- What D&D Art Inspired You to Love a Monster?

Source: FR1 Waterdeep and the North Artist: Keith Parkinson Title: The Xanathar Guild I saw this image when I was still a young lad drawing dungeon maps and filling every room with monsters, traps, and treasures. That was game for me. But this suddenly made me realise that the worlds we...

D&D General One Piece of Art- What D&D Art Inspired You to Love a Class?

Going slightly off-script here... Source: Icewind Dale (PC video game) Artist: Jason Manley Class: Paladin Technically, its a licensed D&D game, so this should still count. There's actually several dozen portraits like this made specifically for this series. Many of them done by two artists...

    D&D 5E (2024) DM's no longer getting crits on PC's

Maybe, but some definitely have difficulty with sarcasm and jokes. :)

    D&D 5E (2024) DM's no longer getting crits on PC's

You're right. That is a very different kind of game. But D&D has always been a different game to different people, so this isn't surprising. It's just strange to me. So what exactly are you judging, if not their abilities? Their dice skills? Their ability to produce more 20s than other...

    D&D 5E (2024) DM's no longer getting crits on PC's

You know you still get to roll dice for damage, right? So there's still the "thrill" of rolling really good or really bad in the department that really counts: damage dealt. What do crits do anyway, except force more math on people? "Double these numbers, but not those!" This is supposed to be...

    D&D 5E (2024) DM's no longer getting crits on PC's

I like it. I didn't think I would, but after giving it some thought, it makes sense. Why should the rank and file need a moment to shine when they're only appearing for one scene in the heroes story? Crits are never about character choices or skill anyway. Its just a dice roll. Dice don't play...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 5.5e, will you get it?

No. But as always, I'll be interested in any new ideas they might come up with.
