    D&D 5E (2014) THIEF as in thief

What DMZ2112 said, except I would dual wield short sword and dagger No need to spend the feat on dual wielding for the extra point of damage. Take Mobile instead. Mobile Rogues get many more Sneak Attack opportunities. It helps you get out of trouble, too.

    D&D 5E (2014) Critical Hits and Fumbles

Also remember that PCs roll many more dice than any other entity. Critical Hit and Fumble rules will therefore impact PCs far more frequently than they will anything else. Since there are currently no rules for a Fumble, introducing them will be, in the long run, a hindrance for the PCs. The...

    D&D 5E (2014) [5e] Easy Sneak Attack Question

At 17th Level, the Rogue (Thief Archetype) gets the ability to take a second turn at his rolled Initiative -10, in the first round of combat.

    D&D 5E (2014) A new alignment: Leutral

I think it's the direction we have all been waiting for - an indication as to how to approach reading the rules: the rules are intended to be taken Leutral-ly.

D&D 5E (2014) Players Killing Players for stupid reason

There is no pretending about it: if there are no players, there is no character. It is an idea that is part of another, larger idea. It has no agency, no will (free or otherwise), no consciousness. But it does not exist outside of someone playing it. And only that part of the character that has...

    D&D 5E (2014) eldritch knight action surge

What does this have to with feats? Replace "fire a crossbow twice" with "throw two daggers". No feat needed.

    D&D 5E (2014) [5e] Easy Sneak Attack Question

I came here to ask that exact question. I would rule yes, too, because it specifies once per turn. But I wasn't sure how others would read it.

    D&D 5E (2014) LAIR ACTIONS

"losing initiative ties" just means that Lair Actions go after any other creature or character that happens to also act in Iniative 20. As mentioned, The Dragon still rolls initiative as normal, and takes its regular turn then. Lair Actions are extra, and free!

D&D 5E (2014) DMs option: Intelligence for Initiative

You could argue for just using the Proficiency Bonus. In the real world, the only things that affect what Initiative attempts to represent are experience and training.

D&D 5E (2014) RAKSASHA (Limited Magic Immunity) X Empyrean (Bolt)

Why is it so "hidden"? Why is it not listed with its other at-will spells? And, again, if it is a "spell", it has no level, and therefore is not 6th level or lower.

D&D 5E (2014) Great Weapon Master Feat Question

The bonus action can be taken at any time.

    D&D 5E (2014) DMG - breaking bounded accuracy already?

I don't think that is what anyone is saying - what they are saying is that if you hand out treasure by RAW, the game is fine. If you hand out treasure indiscriminately, then, of course your game will break. Monty Haul DMs have been struggling with this since the game came out. But, hey, if you...

D&D 5E (2014) RAKSASHA (Limited Magic Immunity) X Empyrean (Bolt)

Obvious. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. Could you please explain the evidence that gave you insight into the "intent" of the Rakshasa's immunity? Also, as you stated, the Bolt is a magical effect - and magical effects are addressed in the Rakshasa's...

D&D 5E (2014) RAKSASHA (Limited Magic Immunity) X Empyrean (Bolt)

Actually, if you were to parse words, the Rakshasa's ability limits its immunity to a very specific range of spells, those that are sixth level or lower. The Empyrean's Bolt attack is a) not listed under its spellcasting ability (and is therefore not a 'spell'), b) is not given a level, so is...

D&D 5E (2014) Blindsight Discussion: What Crawford tweeted

I could see giving obscurement in those conditions....

D&D 5E (2014) Blindsight Discussion: What Crawford tweeted

You might also mention, as I did in the other thread, that blindsight is a subsection of Vision and Light, which deals specifically with obscurement. Blindisight is never mentioned or referenced under the section on Cover.

    D&D 5E (2014) Racial Backgrounds

No idea, I haven't seen the D&D racial write up for a Martian. Not sure which studies you are referring to: Koko the Gorilla was given a stack photos containing pictures of humans and other primates she knew and asked to sort them. She put all the humans in one stack, and all of the other...

    D&D 5E (2014) Racial Backgrounds

Why would an elf raised by humans think differently than a human? ...I get that it's the old "nature vs nurture" argument, but my underlying point was more about who gets to decide how that difference ie expressed, the DM or the Player? Also, that to me, backgrounds are better suited to...
