D&D 5E (2014) How might one monk grab and steal another monk's staff in combat?

Or maybe just temporarily "de-power" the staff until he's the right level for it. Maybe the evil monk will target the PC-monk's chest with the Five Finger Soul Draining technique, but the PC parries it with the staff, and the staff gets "drained"! Now it's only +1, and it has 5 charges...

D&D 5E (2014) [Rise of Tiamat - spoilerish] A Black Dragon and a Red Dragon enter into a bar...

Maybe before entering the temple of Tiamat I can hand each of my 5 players the stats of an ancient metallic dragon, and I'll have them fight 5 ancient chromatic dragons. Maybe without legendary actions, otherwise it could get weird. Win or lose, it will be awesome...

D&D 5E (2014) [Rise of Tiamat - spoilerish] A Black Dragon and a Red Dragon enter into a bar...

... well, not really... :) In Rise of Tiamat, you get to fight against a White, Green, and Blue Dragon... but what about Black and Red? I'm planning to add two scenarios to my RoT campaign, one against a Black Dragon, and one against a Red one. During the years, I've collected all the Dungeon...

    Birthright Conversion WIP

Regarding Wild Magic, I suppose that, if you have magic, you can always go "wild" with it. I mean, it doesn't strike me as something that is completely out of character in a Birthright game. Maybe when the previous gods "exploded" some of their stressed out essence created a wild magic sorcerous...

    Birthright Conversion WIP

I recently DMed a 5e Birthright campaign, the rules conversion I made was a WIP lasting one year, more or less. Maybe you can find something interesting for you. http://birthright02.blogspot.be/2014/07/house-rules.html Things I'd like to work on before my next Birthright campaign: *...

    D&D 5E (2014) Some recent tweets.

Me too, and in truth, in my games, I'll still rule that it applies to all dice. It's just easier for me.

    D&D 5E (2014) Paladins in SCAG are all good-aligned?

Well said, when I think about Oath of Vengeance Paladin, Bataman immediately comes to mind. I was actually inspired by a picture of a medieval Batman to play a Vengeance Paladin whose family's crest is a bat.

An alternative to Fixed Racial Ability Scores Modifiers for Non-humans?

I partially agree with you, but I don't think that the Ability Scores make you "special". I think the way you present yourself does. What Racial Ability Scores modifier do now, is just to funnel those that don't have a clear idea into a stereotype.

    D&D 5E (2014) Paladins in SCAG are all good-aligned?

I don't know... Is Radiant the power of good, or the power of the gods (both good and evil). I think in 4e it was definitely the power originating from the Astral Sea, where the gods resided. Maybe they should have called it Divine damage instead of Radiant damage.

    D&D 5E (2014) Paladins in SCAG are all good-aligned?

Page 131. "Different paladin orders in the Forgotten Realms emphasize different elements of righteous behavior, but all paladins are expected to hold true to a common set of virtues: Liberality. Be generous and tolerant. Good faith. Be honest and keep promises. etc." Am I reading this...

An alternative to Fixed Racial Ability Scores Modifiers for Non-humans?

Premise (long-ish...): Recently I went for an AL game, didn't know anyone at the table in advance. We were three halfling rogues, and two high elves wizards... I confess, I was one of the high elves. I've been playing 5E since it came out, and before that I played all editions of the game. With...

D&D 5E (2014) [Forgotten Realms] The Wall of the Faithless

Why is it even called "the Wall of the Faithless"? I mean, "faith" implies belief in something whose existence is unproven... but in FR people KNOW that the gods are real... reminds me of this scene between John Constantine and the angel Gabriel JC - What does he want from me? G - Only the...

D&D 5E (2014) [Forgotten Realms] The Wall of the Faithless

I don't think that the lore is implying that, unless you specifically serve a god, you cannot go to a "proper" afterlife. I remember a passage from one of the Drizzt books, where he pondered about his way of life, and his beliefs, and he realized that he'd been a "follower" of Mielikki all his...

    D&D 5E (2014) Rise of Tiamat Questions

Only (evil?) dragons can hear it, the rest of the region (2,000 miles radius from the horn) feel a "sense of unease". In our campaign, I had our dragonborn hear it too...

D&D 5E (2014) Post your 5e NPCs here, for all to enjoy

NOT made with PC creation rules? I guess then it could be a simple exercise of re-skinning existing monsters? For example, if you need a "human brute", you can just take the Ogre, make him medium, and that's it!
