    Nominating process complete

    I have a lot of good things to say about the process: (a) PirateCat and Teflon Billy, as the two senior judges were, on the one hand, a great resource while, at the same time never pulling rank on anyone as the most senior and experienced. (b) We new judges were given a lot of scope to propose...

    Trailer Park Boys: the Game, Wed 6:30p-10:00p (FULL)

    I got a lot of the show through Bit Torrent and Limewire. The thing is that Trailer Park Boys isn't just about human weakness. It is a dynamic that is based around representing certain kinds of weaknesses. The protagonists, even though they are searching for the big score, are not actually...

    Trailer Park Boys: the Game, Wed 6:30p-10:00p (FULL)

    Post stuff to the thread. I'm also interested in any recommendations you have for addressing the flaws I noticed when I tested the rules.

    Int = IQ?

    (a) Most cognitive psychologists are not cognitive psychologists (b) The majority of both psychologists and cognitive psychologists reject IQ

    I'm thinking of going back to 2e!

    How hard do you think it would be to convert Darksun and the other cool stuff to 3E? I really liked the conversion protocols that were published when 3E came out and I was certainly able to do some pretty fast 1E to 3E conversions using them. I don't think 2E is evil or horrendous or anything...

    Forcing rules to accomodate character concepts

    You seem to believe that incoherent kitchen-sink settings are going to be deemed awesome and that coherent, rational settings are going to be deemed to suck. All I can say is that I'm glad I have my players and not yours. If saying "no, I don't think this character concept will work with this...

    Spending the Summer in Salt Lake

    Almost certainly Salt Lake itself. But if my plans go completely to hell (no offense to the place -- I just don't drive), Provo.

    Would you play your game here?

    That makes sense. But it does beg the question: why shouldn't people game at restaurants, especially during the afternoon lull between lunch and dinner. I know it doesn't help the OP's business but I thought I'd mention that if my group had suffered some kind of venue-destroying catastrophe...

    Spending the Summer in Salt Lake

    Hey -- I'm going to be staying in the Utah Valley from June 30 to August 13 and would love to find a temporary spot at a gaming table or two. I'm a fairly versatile gamer but tend to prefer fantasy games over sci-fi. As I'm serving as an ENnies judge this year, I have some familiarity with a...

    Timing, Activities, Volunteers

    There are plenty of strong MC candidates, such as your wife. But Kevin's style is actually way more impressive than it first appears. In addition to being articulate and charismatic, he has a skill most MCs lack: he knows when to shut up.

    Int = IQ?

    Nope. Because the guy who invented IQ testing stated that his test would not be able to measure above average intelligence. It was only designed for testing learning disabilities. No subsequent modification to or defense of IQ testing indicates to me that scores over 100 accurately measure...

    Would you play your game here?

    Very succinct Mouseferatu. The only consumers of this service would be groups united by mutual, highly adverse social and economic conditions. And this would then provide another disincentive. The other people with whom one was sharing the gaming store space would be groups dominated by or...

    Forcing rules to accomodate character concepts

    Exactly. Without agreement on a setting, there is no story and, basically, no game. As long as the rules and the setting are closely linked the OP's original problem ceases to be a rules problem and becomes a disagreement over setting.

    No! No! Baaaaaaad Marvel Comics!

    That would be awesome! I'd love to see them defend the earth from a giant pac-man, especially a heavily pixelated one. Learn what? That pleasing you is more important than pleasing crowds and making money? Never is my guess. You want to see Hollywood messing with an "established classic," go...

    Trailer Park Boys: the Game, Wed 6:30p-10:00p (FULL)

    The Big Woody Bulletin Happy July everybody! Lifes good down here at the Woody. Congratulations to Phil and Sheila for the new baby and to Harv on making his last truck payment. Oscar called up last week to send his regards from Fort McMurray where he says the coin is good. But we know theres...

    Trailer Park Boys: the Game, Wed 6:30p-10:00p (FULL)

    I haven't redrafted the rules since the playtest because I'm staring down the ENnies reading deadline. There are going to be some modifications to these rules. In particular, I'm still working on (a) whether every action is going to be opposed by a weakness or only when there is an obvious one...

    Creating a demi-human race and society

    So, to be clear, you mean the environment of 9th century Europe under Frankish rule. Gotcha. Bear with me here. Are you saying that we should turn everyone in the Carolingian Empire into the same kind of demi-human? I do not know what you mean here. Do you mean that the physics of 9th century...

    Monte Cook on target audience of RPG Supplements

    I think great GMs can create a setting on the fly and have it emerge as they run episodes with not much additional work. And generally I don't take long to construct a setting... a couple of afternoons' work and I have enough to go.

    Forcing rules to accomodate character concepts

    I figured out games don't make good novels more than 10 years ago. I assumed this is something that dawns on most people after regaling people with what happened in a few campaigns they ran/played in.
