D&D 5E (2014) Convince me we're doing the Warlock wrong

I just want to point out that the Warlock has exactly zero "dead levels" due to their excellent retraining opportunities. Every single time they level up, a Warlock can replace an old spell with a new one of the highest spell level they can cast, as well as replacing an old invocation with any...

D&D 5E (2014) Sometimes? The most memorable battles come down to 1 roll.

There is, in fact, no such thing as "friendly fire." Did they live? And if so, what was your reward for being such a stalwart ally?

Wild magic... in the name all that's sane, why?!

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me we're doing the Warlock wrong

Hmmm... I personally went with a Finesse weapon for my Pact Blade, but focusing on DEX has lots of other benefits (Initiative, high AC, good saving throw, etc) so maybe I shouldn't worry about not having a 2-handed weapon. As for Hex, well no, I think I'd just as soon keep it, "concentration...

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me we're doing the Warlock wrong

I have to agree: the Life Drinker invocation comes waaay too late to be balanced vs. Agonizing Blast, and I have no idea why. But I'm not sure how early it should be available. If by "right away" you mean "when they get their pact blade" I'm not sure I'd agree. It's worth noting that...

It is if you have an Archfey Patron.

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me we're doing the Warlock wrong

I think the key to making the class work is proper synergy between invocations, spells, feats, and other abilities. For spells, the warlock doesn't want "instantaneous" effects; he wants spells that will last for most of the combat. (Hex is a good place to start.) When I got Darkness and the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Tiefling NPCs

But I didn't say "infertile", I said interfertile, which means exactly the opposite: they can have children together. And I'm not the one talking about an organized breeding program, that was the OP's idea. What I'm saying is that an organized effort to have Tieflings meet up is...

    D&D 5E (2014) Tiefling NPCs

One important thing to remember: in some settings (I'm not sure about Faerun) Tieflings are interfertile with normal humans, and their offspring are always Tieflings. So it would make just as much (if not more) sense for Tieflings to look for human partners from a numerical standpoint. There are...

D&D 5E (2014) Elemental Evil companion spells underwhelming?

I don't really don't want to see any weird, overpowered, badly-designed spells popping up in my games just because a new book came out. We went down that awful road in 3E, and before that in 2E. If I never hear the phrase "Nahal's Reckless Dweomer" again, it'll be too soon. No thanks. Kudos to...

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me we're doing the Warlock wrong

The Blade Pact Warlock I'm playing has neither Agonizing Blast nor Armor of Shadows invocations. I've found it's quite possible to build an effective Warlock without them. Also, I hate being told "this option is mandatory" when building a character. Edited to add: the above comment was not...

D&D 5E (2014) Whats happens when you multiclass out of Warlock?

It does seem like a very fine hair to split: this is a class feature your patron can take away, but that one isn't, because reasons. This strikes me as a concept which has outlived its usefulness, (assuming it ever had any) and the warlock has enough "baggage" without it, thank you very much.

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me we're doing the Warlock wrong

I made Dex my Warlock's 2nd highest stat after Charisma and went with the Blade Pact at 3rd level, using a finesse weapon. Then I got the Medium Armor feat at 4th level, and the Thirsting Blade Invocation at 5th level. Turns out Warlocks can fight after they use up their spells: I've got a...

D&D 5E (2014) Whats happens when you multiclass out of Warlock?

Also, it would seem very apropos for a Pact Blade Warlock (of any Patron) to take a few levels in a martial class.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e lvl 5 Wizard...what spells do you suggest?

I switched over to Hypnotic Pattern when I got 3rd level spells. Targets get a save, but I've found those that fail often have a higher HP total than I would have taken out with Sleep. Your results may vary, of course.

D&D 5E (2014) Whats happens when you multiclass out of Warlock?

Have the other classes formed some kind of union? Are there union regulations forbidding warlocks to be cross trained? Is someone worried the warlocks are coming to take away the sorcerers' jobs? I'm calling shenanigans!

New Spells and Abilities with regards to Leveling Up...

Seriously, this is problematic behavior. "Hey guys, you need to meet requirement XYZ to level up." And then later, "Hey guys, requirement XYZ is impossible to meet in this campaign. Bwahahaha, you lose!" I think your GM needs to level up.

    D&D 5E (2014) Mage armor and A shield

If a Shield stacks with mundane Armor you have to put on, I see no reason it shouldn't stack with the kind you get by casting a spell. I got no time for rules lawyering.

If you're not worried about a 3rd level character with a Dex of 20, why worry about the rest?
