    D&D 5E (2014) Question about Rogues

I approve of this. Mainly because it would prevent Half-Orc BattleMaster Alertness Pike Assassin from making Lich-kabobs out of the GM's boss monster right out of the gate.

    November's SAGE ADVICE Is Here!

It's worth noting that Monks get to use DEX for Unarmed Strikes.

    D&D 5E (2014) Question about Rogues

Great! My Assassin will MC into Battlemaster, get the GWM Feat as well. Then I can Auto-crit with a Pike from 15' away with the Lunge maneuver, double his Superiority dice and get +10 damage on top of that. Wheeee!!! That was fun, who's next?

    D&D 5E (2014) Question about Rogues

That was my first answer. Being a master of disguise requires a lot of training.

    D&D 5E (2014) Critical Hits: Why not x2 damage?

I'd suggest houseruling this at your table and seeing how it goes, because it sounds like an interesting experiment. But yes, doubling the +10 damage for GWM on a critical hit could be a real game-breaker. I'd make an exception for that.

D&D 5E (2014) Which monsters have the most exciting powers?

Anything that can swallow someone whole really gets their attention.

D&D 5E (2014) Is Hex actually that great?

<deadpan> Surely you can't be serious.

D&D 5E (2014) Is Hex actually that great?

If I was a player, I'd be very dubious about eating Hexed food for breakfast! And as a GM, I'd seriously consider giving the players a good reason to be dubious about it. Never let a warlock cook your food, who knows what he's gonna do to it? Saving throws all around! Come on now, who ate...

    D&D 5E (2014) Multi-classing and the fighter's extra attack

It's also saying that you can't stack the attacks per round if you multiclass Fighter 5/Paladin 5/BladeLock 5. Because who wouldn't love having 6 attacks per round at 15th level?

D&D 5E (2014) Is Hex actually that great?

With only 2 spells per combat (er, short rest) my bladelock usually has better options than Hex. But I got myself a Pact Bearer's rod so once in a while I can replace a spell slot and use Hex anyway. Just made it to 11th level and going forward I've got 3 spell slots, so now Hex is definitely...

    D&D 5E (2014) Sorcerer Wild Magic Surge

Opinions vary widely on Wild Magic. Some folks look at the above and shout Sign Me Up! while I just cringe and mutter Not in my friggin campaign.... It's that accidental Fireball result that kills it for me. Really? You actually want to play a character who's a TPK waiting to happen just...

D&D 5E (2014) Skill from race and background: double Prof?

I briefly considered allowing characters who "doubled up" on a skill from race, background, or class to take expertise in that skill instead of choosing another skill. But after thinking it over, I decided that would be a bad idea. Expertise is a class feature particular to Bards and Rogues; it...

D&D 5E (2014) Anybody know of a site where I can download free pawns?

That site is awesome. I also use http://www.heromachine.com/heromachine-3-lab/ to create my own custom figure flats and print them out on cardstock.

Unearthed Arcana Light, Dark, Underdark - November's Unearthed Arcana

All very good points; conceptually the warlock class really is all over the place, and now even moreso between the two new pacts presented in SCAG and this month's UA. Did anyone notice the similarity in their names? SCAG gave us "The Undying" patron, while the one in UA is called "The Undying...

Unearthed Arcana Light, Dark, Underdark - November's Unearthed Arcana

Good point; there's no way to make a pact with a being who's unaware of your existence. The technical term for this is "crappy writing" and it shouldn't have gotten past the PHB editors. The whole warlock section reads rather badly, IMHO.

Unearthed Arcana Light, Dark, Underdark - November's Unearthed Arcana

Actually, in my last post I explicitly stated in might NOT be a massive sacrifice; the list of examples I wrote made that absolutely clear. Or do think a "high five" is some sort of "massive sacrifice"? Never mind, don't answer that. You'll just muck it up again. And yes, yours was the least...

    D&D 5E (2014) Access to Races in a Campaign

No, actually, it looks like this. If I don't like your game, and we do our best but completely fail to agree on what kind of character I should play, I'm not going to argue with you, let alone try to bully or coerce you in any way. I'll just walk away and find another game I like better. It's...

Unearthed Arcana Light, Dark, Underdark - November's Unearthed Arcana

Congrats. You can cherry pick a completely irrelevant definition from an online dictionary. Let's look at something more useful: Pact: an agreement, covenant, or compact (from www.dictionary.com) This is what "Pact Magic" boils down to. Warlocks get their powers by bargaining with otherworldly...

Unearthed Arcana Light, Dark, Underdark - November's Unearthed Arcana

I'm just gonna wait right here while you go look up the word "pact" in the dictionary. Then we'll talk.
