Unearthed Arcana Light, Dark, Underdark - November's Unearthed Arcana

Here's the issue: one of the major themes/balancing factors of the warlock class is that their power comes at a price. They bargain with powerful, dangerous beings to get their powers. And eventually, somehow, they have to pay. (Or cheat.) Every GM handles this differently: it can be a personal...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why do you multiclass?

FWIW: There's one very specific reason to multiclass which 5E has eliminated: it's no longer necessary to multiclass to meet the requirements to take a prestige class. Eldritch Knight and Arcane Trickster used to be prestige classes, impossible to play without multiclassing. Now they're...

    D&D 5E (2014) Arcane Domain

Gods need their clerics to provide services to their followers. When one of Mystra's wizardly followers goes astray and wants to atone for his misdeeds, who does he go to? What if two wizards who follow Mystra want to get married? Who reads their last rites when they die and gives them a proper...

Unearthed Arcana Light, Dark, Underdark - November's Unearthed Arcana

Overall, this is one of the most useful UA articles I've seen. One thing: the Undying Light Warlock could use a real patron rather than "positive energy." Seriously, it sounds like they get their powers from reading self-help books.

    D&D 5E (2014) Access to Races in a Campaign

As far as I'm concerned, when a GM says he doesn't want a certain option in his campaign because "he just doesn't like it", what he's telling me is that enforcing his little pet peeves is more important to him than letting his players have fun. Bad GM, no dice.

D&D 5E (2014) SCAG - Campaign Setting or Players' Guide?

I don't usually say this, but It is what it is.

    D&D 5E (2014) Access to Races in a Campaign

I consider D&D to be pretty much a "kitchen sink" fantasy game, and that's the way I run it. Unless it's going to completely break my game (which it isn't) I see no good reason to disallow it. That's also the way I play, so when a GM tries to hand me a list of "banned" material with my...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why do you multiclass?

This. I'm multiclassing because the BladeLock archetype seems to have run its course by the time it reaches level 12. It's time to branch out. So I'm exploring other options. And the Swashbuckler perfectly fits my Fey Pact BladeLock's personality. I'm going for the role-playing angle and using...

D&D 5E (2014) Should I dip either Fighter or Rogue for my BladeLock?

My personal choice (which I'll be doing after I reach level 12 as a BladeLock) is the Swashbuckler archetype. It offers improved SA, excellent mobility, and adds CHA to Initiative, which is awesome for a Warlock. The Expertise feature is very good, and multiclassing into Rogue also provides a...

D&D 5E (2014) The Soul of the Sorcerer

Shidaku said it first! I was going to say, innate is the only word that makes sense for describing what sorcerers do: their magic powers are an intrinsic part of them, rather than being learned in a laboratory or whatever, the way wizards do it.

D&D 5E (2014) Along the lines of another post: What player RACES would you like to see added to 5e?

Yes, I would love me some Shadar-Kai PCs! (Cuz sometimes my Tiefling just isn't quite emo enuf.)

D&D 5E (2014) Creative ways to use spells

My DM sometimes give my character (a Tiefling Feylock) advantage on Intimidation checks when I come up with creative descriptions for using Thaumaturgy.

D&D 5E (2014) Extra Attack class feature with attack Cantrips

If a cantrip gives you an extra attack at higher levels, it will say so in the description of the cantrip. See Eldritch Blast.

D&D 5E (2014) With the reintroduction of PrCs which are on your 'must see' list?

WOTC turned away from Prestige Classes by changing the Eldritch Knight and the Arcane Trickster into Sub-classes, and that's exactly what they should keep doing.

D&D 5E (2014) Magic Weapon Made Pact Weapon Morphing

<shrug> If you say so. I took the Noble background so my retainers deal with all that menial labor type stuff. My pact blade is only used for important things like vanquishing evil and impressing other nobles. (Also, chicks dig it.)

D&D 5E (2014) Magic Weapon Made Pact Weapon Morphing

If you're a STR BladeLock, yes. If you're a DEX BladeLock, it's pretty much rapiers, all day every day, so having +1 magic rapier for a pact blade isn't a bad thing. You weren't going to summon any other kind of weapon anyway. The only thing better than a +1 rapier is a +2 rapier, or a +1 rapier...

Greenflame Blade Cantrip from SCAG, Courtesy of EXTRA LIFE

This is also true for Blade Pact Warlocks, I think. Although I wouldn't mind pumping it up with Elemental Bane. Actually, at this point I'm not clear on which classes get this cantrip added to their lists. Do we have that info yet?
