    The D&D Business Model

I would seek to reduce cost, customize product and expand product ease of use. Reduce cost by offering all but the basic core rule books as primarily pdf products. Print products are only on-demand and come at a margin sufficient to make a profit on each unit. Offer customized products, the...

    Big-picture or detail-oriented

Give me a module with details (as a fun and inspirational read) but don't make the adventure hang on them as I will rework the details to fit my setting. Even in the modules I love the most, monsters get changed, treasure gets changed, monster goals get changed to fit the setting. Too much...

    Game Time and Real Time

QFT depending on character level of cousre. ;) The same could be said as a DM, I take a bit o' time on what the BBEG does to reflect his decades of experience. If someone was playing me in my chosen profession, I could come up with solutions to problems in seconds that might take the untrained...

Need my math gurus: 10d6 probability work

I can tell you the exact complex formula ;) It was also floating around here before the crash. However if you have some programing acumen, the quickest way to do it is probably simulating to just 10,000 rolls. Since I have no prgramming skills anymore, and still like algebra, here is the...

    The New Design Philosophy?

Quoted because this is all I'm trying to say, just not so well.

    The New Design Philosophy?

So its tough is that the problem? There are no ways to counter invisibility to give you an edge besides magic? Yes you are going to need to prepare, use intelligence gathering, where is it, who is it disguising itself as. You will need to investigate and not just rush in. Are these things...

    The New Design Philosophy?

I'd have to disagree. This is a good boss encounter. The PCs should be prepared and know that death could result if they are not very careful about facing this guy. A nice fear of loss for tension. On the other hand, if they can get the drop on him he goes down and they get the rewards. A...

    The New Design Philosophy?

First let me say I like the new OM, more of the oni I always loved, never read of an oni that used cold, but lightening, flame yes. :) I also like the new rust monster. So the end result doesn't lose flavor for me. Nevertheless, the above quote is just the point raised about focusing on...

What best describes railroading as you understand it?

:) I can understand the situation you describe. I've only dozens of plot hooks etc from being apack rat about materials for 27+ years. many a time in the past have I played, and accepted the convenient from a real life perspective, 6 total strangers meet in a bar and decide to trust each otehr...

Goals of D&D: Putting Danger to the Sword

riprock, you go to a lot of trouble to quote the books but I'd say think for yourself on this issue. If glorious combats are what inspire you then from my experience, from the white box on, the game works very well in that regard. (i.e., we never gave xp for gp). But RPGs are a social game...

Rat bastard DM or just the norm? Share your stories.

My first thought as well. Still many other reasons one could come up with to give a warning since the entire reason to whoosh them away is pure metagame. "Your characers have an oveririding premonition somehting is wrong and they should head back to town." Where they are whooshed away later...

What best describes railroading as you understand it?

Wow...I've never properly run a game. I'd be more likely to say: A properly run game is one in which the players manipulate events, NPCs, and circumstances in order to create a story of adventure from a rich detailed setting, usually prepared in advance, that is entertaining for all involved.

What? Your at Cal or MIT? ;) What area of physics are you looking at?

what would you be in the dungeons and Dragons world?

Well I took the test here http://www.angelfire.com/dragon/terragf/ and got: STR:14, DEX:16, CON: 15, INT: 17, WIS: 16, CHA: 18. I seem to be superhuman. ;) I really don't think I'm a strength 14 just because I can do 40 pushups, 50 situps and bench almost my body weight. But hey I'll take...

    Telling a story vs. railroading

For me the options were unclear. I almost voted the first option but I don't agree with happyelf's assertions, to the extent I understand them as being if a player doesn't like it it is a railroad. I actually thought the first option better reflected your position than the other two!

    Telling a story vs. railroading

 Well I'd have to call that "open DMing" style non-DMing. :) That opened my eyes (pun intended). It's certainly not what I refer to as open DMing or style. Rather, I view open as quite the opposite, in open DMing you have to provide dozens of rumors, basically the whole local news of...

What best describes railroading as you understand it?

Here's ye olde other thread ;) http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=168786&page=6 Having read the other thread (and the nuances or lack thereof therein) I don't find any of the option in this poll really cover what I consider railroading. I'll cop out and say I generally agree with the...

    Mearls redesigns the Ogre Mage

I think this states it nicely and also applies to one my objections as to the rational that the rust monster needed a redesign. First let me say I like very much how Mike set forth his goals and then went about making the monsters better fit those goals. A nice example of design process. I...

    Telling a story vs. railroading

This agrees with my experience as well, especially the first point. Nowdays our gaming time is severly constrained by family and work responsibilities. I'd love to have the palyers do "research" in-game to find an adventure but they asked me to set something up for them. I asked them some...

Which adventure was your first? Ever itch to play/DM it again?

Like diaglo, my first adventures as a player and GM were homebrew ones. The first commercial module I played in was Thieves Fortress of Badabaskor. I recently got it for old times sake and the dungeon portion must have been homebrewed as what I recall was much more extensive than the module...
