PDFS: How do you like them formatted?

It's nothing that specific. In general, whatever is easiest on an inkjet printer.

PDFS: How do you like them formatted?

Printer-friendly. I like having something to use in my hands.

    Playing Evil

All this talk of evil campaigns makes me yearn to run a D&D game based on Inglourious Basterds. Imagine a half-elven ranger comes up to the group: My name is Adran Varis and I need me eight soldiers. Eight elven-blooded soldiers. Now, y'all might of heard rumors about the armada happening soon...

Forked from "An Epiphany" thread: Is World Building "Necessary"?

This is pretty much how I prefer DMs to do their settings. I'm really not interested in history, cosmology, and such if it doesn't directly impact the plot or the PCs. Heck, part of the fun for me is having other players bring a piece of the world with them (a town, a political network, etc.)...

Avoiding Railroading - Forked Thread: Do you play more for the story or the combat?

Exactly. As a DM, I much prefer running character-focused games with strong protagonists (aka the PCs) who have strong motivations - things they will go after at the slightest provocation. And the motivations need to be deeply personal for it to work. I can't deal with Generic Adventurer #35...

    What's my (PC's) motivation?

My last PC became an adventurer mainly because it provided social mobility that would allow her a chance to be the one she loved. Unfortunately, I rarely get a chance to go in-depth with my characters' motivations.

    On DMing and "writing books"

I find roleplaying more akin to improv theater than anything resembling prose fiction.

Forked Thread: What makes a good Setting?

JackSmithIV said something really interesting in the What makes a good Setting? thread: And I thought: Why not have a thread (here) where we create worlds the way JackSmithIV describes? Any takers? Just jump in!

    What makes a good Setting?

Exactly! I thought I was alone in all of this, but I'm glad to find out that I'm not. Perhaps we should do more setting creation threads along these lines. I think that would be cool.

What should be turned into a RPG?

Ah! I can't believe I forgot to mention this! I'd lovelovelovelovelove a game based on Susanna Clarke's Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell and The Ladies of Grace Adieu. And as cliche as it sounds, a Sin City game wouldn't be remiss either.

    What makes a good Setting?

I skimmed your post. Good work! This is the sort of thing I consider when I think about good D&D adventures. Too often, everything becomes Save the World (Again). This puts a different spin on things and can continue to grow beyond the initial plot hook.

What should be turned into a RPG?

Calico Jack, That suggestion should be labeled at cruel and unusual punishment. In any case, I'd really be down for a Dead Like Me game. The series has an interesting premise, lots of potential for introducing new characters, and an inherent structure that propels action. Sounds a bit like an...

How would you do 5th edition D&D?

That would be so cool. Is anybody working on something like this?

    Good Matrix RPG?

I designed an RPG built entirely around this premise. Send me an e-mail, and I can either type it out or summarize it for you.

How would you do 5th edition D&D?

This is really interesting, and I'd like to see someone take this and run with it.

    Home made game systems

I made up my own system (Kathanaksaya) and used it for a Matrix game I ran with a very large group. It was a blast. I have to type it up again so I can play.

    Good Matrix RPG?

I had a homebrew system I used for a long-running Matrix game. It was a blast that had up to 10 players. PM or e-mail me if you want to know more.

    4e Swashbuckling campaigns?

I've grown to loathe 3e because it's even worse WRT exception-based rules. 7th Sea, while I like the setting, isn't my favorite system. I remember FUDGE, but I doubt I'd find players.
