    Making trouble for a womaniser

BTW, gossip works like a charm, especially if one of his lady friends isn't impressed by his performance or his . . . er, equipment.

    Making trouble for a womaniser

I concur. And if you really want to get nasty, make it magic VD. Y'know, when fire comes out when they pee. That and pregnancy. "Look at my new baby! Isn't he cute? Congratulations, he's yours now."

    Action Movies as D&D Adventures

I just figured out why I enjoy 4e so much more than previous incarnations of D&D. Because I finally know what the system is meant to do. And it's not generic fantasy roleplaying. I always felt that previous editions of D&D (especially 3e) were somewhat . . . disjointed. It was often a...

how do you introduce your characters to political intrigue?

Don't forget: The personal is political.

Mamacat's helpful hints for gaming with couples with or without kids

I tend to prefer mature-themed RPing. I like playing with the full spectrum of human experience. This means I need to be able to deal honestly (not graphically) with language, sex, violence, racism, sexism, etc. With children present, this becomes decidedly more difficult.

Mamacat's helpful hints for gaming with couples with or without kids

To be honest? I'd seek couples therapy.

    Die Rolls or Point-Buy

Same here, but in the interest of fairness and also because some people are idiots, I voted point-buy.

Mamacat's helpful hints for gaming with couples with or without kids

This sort of thing really gets to me. Why does Arnwyn need to be pitied? Does having a separate interest somehow mean Arnwyn is unhappy in the relationship he has with his wife? Is not wanting everyone you know involved in the same things some sort of psychological dysfunction? Why do single...

Mamacat's helpful hints for gaming with couples with or without kids

The closest thing I have to kids are my dogs and parrots. Let me use the birds as an example because they can sort of talk. I love the birds. I think they're wonderful and special. But it's not a good idea for me to bring them to certain spaces. Not because they're bad but because they're...

Can a once a month game work?

Once a month would work fine for me, especially since I can enjoy being in 2 or 3 different games at the same time. For me, personally, I need a more character-oriented style for that to work. Too much plot without a personal connection makes it hard for me to keep up or care what happens.

    LOST as Campaign Model...

Scribble, No, but I'd love to play in a game like that. From what you describe (I never watched LOST before ), it seems that you need a few very proactive players to make it work. A lot of players are pretty passive, wanting the GM to spoonfeed the adventure to them rather than the PCs...

Racially diverse artwork in D&D...does it influence you?

QFT. Hear-hear. But, I gotta say to everyone on this thread: Thank you for talking about a sensitive topic intelligently. 9 pages and no hate speech might be an internet record.

Racially diverse artwork in D&D...does it influence you?

Why? In worlds where magic trumps (or at least significantly influences) physics, chemistry, geology, biology, and genetics, why is it so hard to imagine a dark-skinned person being native to a pseudo-European culture? I'm not talking about worlds drawn from a specific mythology. Those are...

    Guns in a fantasy setting

Actually, they'd probably work a lot like wands. The trick isn't to get them to work, but making them so a non-caster could use them.

Racially diverse artwork in D&D...does it influence you?

Uh-oh, you said the R-word. Anyway, thanks for saying this. To further your example, in ancient Greece, a barbarian was someone who didn't speak or dress Greek (and thus were completely savage and uncivilized). Once someone spoke Greek and adopted a Greek name, that person was a Greek no matter...

Racially diverse artwork in D&D...does it influence you?

*confused* So . . . you find it jarring when you go out and see non-White people wearing jeans, t-shirts, shorts, flip-flops, sweaters, or business suits? There's nothing particularly African about those items of clothing. I think what I can't wrap my head around is the need for a...

Racially diverse artwork in D&D...does it influence you?

Am I the only person who thinks myths, legends, folktales, and fairy tales are fantasy too?
