WotC Dragonlance: Everything You Need For Shadow of the Dragon Queen

As someone who never played the original Battlesystem rules could you clarify this further? Are you saying that all BS really was was just "have one orc battle one knight and then multiple those results by 100?" So each round instead of one orc or knight falling they'd be going down 100 at a...

Have the only new settings that have been released under the D&D banner since the 90's been Eberron and WIldemount/Exandria? Neither of which were conceived by WOTC's own staff?

It looks like Half-Orcs may no longer be listed as a PHB race going forward so concerns over them being specifically called out as a playable option in the new Dragonlance may be moot. Full Orcs look like they will be listed in the PHB but really, what percentage of players would choose them...

Oh man have you guys read the new excerpt posted on wizards.com? Ariakas now says "Maclunkey" right before Tanis stabs him.

WotC Dragonlance: Everything You Need For Shadow of the Dragon Queen

Oh man that totally reminds me of the time my buddy in early high school (I'm sure it was freshman year) ran "The Mines of Bloodstone" and early on in the adventure the party was traveling across the countryside in broad daylight until the DM declared that suddenly the ground shook, then opened...

    That was awesome!

Suddenly I'm imagining that adventure ending like the She-Hulk finale with Soth dramatically waving his hand, opening the door so that the Tarrasque can step through and then just abruptly stopping himself to say, "I'm sorry, I just can't. This adventure seriously ends with me waving my hand to...

Great post, I agree with everything you stated except for the sentiment that not including orcs when the setting was originally published was regrettable. Removing orcs and halflings was a great way to de-Tolkienize the aesthetic of the world, even if a lot of elements of the Chronicles trilogy...

Yes I literally said that DL16 came out one year after DLA. :)

DL16 "World of Krynn" that came out just one year after Dragonlance Adventures revealed that Lord Soth kept a Tarrasque in his basement so him riding a Death Dragon in the new material isn't too much to get fussed about. ;)

Yes, my point wasn't that people would see a tiefling and go "Aha! A wingless Dragonspawn! Wait, those don't exist yet!" (And even after the Chaos War how many people would even recognize a dragonspawn on sight anyway.) But rather I was just calling out that later on in the world's timeline...

Tieflings often look somewhat draconic on account of their horns and tails but on Krynn there are Dragonspawn which look pretty close to tieflings with wings. So the aesthetic isn't completely without precedent, once again it would just come down to how the inclusion of such creatures is...

I'm a purist when it comes to what is included in official rules but the point you make is extremely valid. Picture a half-orc walking into the Inn of the Last Home compared to say a Minotaur or Draconian. The former would most likely be met with confusion and/or disgust. The latter two would...

Ha ha, yes between 1E, 2E, and 3.5E I've got more Krynn reference material than I'll ever need. I'm most looking forward to perusing the artwork and seeing how good a job they did on creating 5E stat blocks.

I guess I just don't understand why they aren't presenting Krynn as it has always been presented since in the Dragonlance Adventures hardcover from 1987 they specifically state that beings from other worlds sometimes visit Krynn. DL1 Dragons of Despair, the very first Dragonlance product...

In The Art of Dragonlance (1987) p. 10 says that it was a group discussion about what to do with halflings with some saying yes and others saying no. The quotes they list are: "Our players like them, I say we leave them in." "I say they go. Too Tolkien." "Let's come up with a new race then."...

Since nothing is off the table now I think my next character will be a Live One bard, and I'll choose a Background that gives him a +2 to Charisma. Yeah, I'm leaning toward that happy little fellow in the lower right corner. Or maybe the guy in the middle shambling on his collar bone, he could...

Or just another name for the Dragonspawn created by the Dragon Overlords. Or perhaps the offspring of a Draconian and a Dragonspawn.
