Demonomicon, ToH, Orcs of Stonefang Pass and Vor Rukoth in hand

I agree with the disappointment in the seeming humanity of Hammerfast; it would help if there was a way to distinguish between buildings that are supposed to be houses, and those that are tombs. In terms of Vor Rukoth, to offer a possible explanation of why it does not resemble the pictures...

    The Essential Knight

Exactly. What order the actions are performed will depend entirely on the situation of the combat, and what tactics you prefer. If the enemies are bunched together, you could do: Move - Move closer to the enemies. Minor - Activate either Defender Aura or Cleaving Assault Attack - Charge and...

How Close is D&D Encounters to you?

I play Encounters at the single FLGS, Jeff's Cards and Comics, in Peterborough, Ontario where I am living for grad school, and its luckily just over two blocks away from my apartment. We get good turnout every week, sometimes threatening to carry over to another table.

Essential Mage: The return of schools

What I'm surprised at is the Hypnotism power. With its ability to force a monster to use a basic melee, its just like an extremely short lived dominate, and as an At-Will! Secondly, I'm glad that it seems they're building in more flavour about the Points of Light world into the Essential class...

Demonomicon, ToH, Orcs of Stonefang Pass and Vor Rukoth in hand

Now that's ... just... Awesome! I'm assuming they don't have a map for this, but this description fills in a big area to the east of the Nentir Vale. Thank you! This product has moved up to must buy after Orcs of Stonefang Pass.

Demonomicon, ToH, Orcs of Stonefang Pass and Vor Rukoth in hand

Have you seen any indication in the text of where Vor Rukoth is in relation to the Nentir or Elsir Vales? I'm starting to try and put together a better map of the Points of Light campaign and curious about geographical relationships.

    Should spells/prayers/etc. have short+long ranges?

I think this is a good idea, and it would put implement users a bit closer to weapon users in terms of ranged attacks. However, the update to Magic Missile does NOT reduce the range to 10 squares, though I have seen a few people suggest that it should. (I've only checked in the Rules Update pdf...

Small annoyances that could / should be finally fixed with the Essentials

My apologies Klaus, I only mentioned Treetop Sniper because the content from Dragon 386 isn't in the Compendium yet.

Small annoyances that could / should be finally fixed with the Essentials

Or they can take the heroic feat Treetop Sniper to use sneak attack with any bow, and use bows with any rogue power that requires crossbows.

HS1 - The Slaying Stone - my poor reviewing skills review

Thanks for the input Logan, I wish I'd checked earlier, as I was already starting to run my game session tonight when your post showed up. I did arrive at something similar though, I had the entrance to the lair strewn with orc corpses. And since my players already knew to respect orc's...

HS1 - The Slaying Stone - my poor reviewing skills review

My players are loving this adventure so far! Using the alternate plot suggestions in the module, I've implied that Treona may not be wanting to acquire the Slaying Stone for altruistic reasons, and that she and Dreus were contemporaries in some sort of wizard training. Also, rather than having...

Heroes of Shadow: Assassins, Hexblades, and Necromancers!

Essentials Line Content While the Essential line will likely contain some reprints of some necessary feats, the news I've been reading about it suggests that it will have new builds for the classes they contain (Hopefully some less complicated versions with less fiddly bits IMHO)

D&D 4E The still "complete" list of official 4E products, now with 2011!

There's plenty of classes left available from 3.x for Wizards to adapt, but the one I doubt we'll ever see is the Spellthief. Stealing powers as is from monsters would be problematic, but I can see them doing a class along a similar theme if its done with powers exclusive to the class, with a...

HS1 - The Slaying Stone - my poor reviewing skills review

Starting to run this adventure at my FLGS in two days, and I'm really looking forward to it. I can't wait to see what my players do with the dragon!

    Skeleton Water Room Picture?

The image you're looking for featured Alhandra, the 3rd edition iconic paladin character as I recall. I'm pretty sure it appeared in one of the Dungeon Master's Guides for 3rd edition or 3.5, but I can't find it in the art galleries online. My gut feeling is it was in the 3.0 DMG only.

What are you playing that is NOT D&D?

Just this past week I had a very short session of the new Dresden Files RPG, and I hope to get a full campaign going this summer, possibly alternating with my regular D&D 4e game.

    DDM Wacky Ideas Thread

I agree, very Deva and Genasi deprived so far. Only one Genasi I can recall, the Air Genasi Swashbuckler from Blood War. Unfortunately its a rare, though I suppose you could use it as a watersoul Genasi too. Edit: I knew there were two, there's another from Divine Heroes 3.

    DDM Wacky Ideas Thread

Wizards has produced both a dwarf wizard and dwarf warrior with Urgrosh, but they were both fairly early in the product line. Here's some pics.
