    December Updates

I find it interesting that they changed Careful Attack but not Sure Strike. I guess the accuracy fit the striker role better. I could see a dwarf ranger taking Careful Attack for use with axes. It's still not an equal choice to Twin Strike, but then again what is?

+1 At-Will power and Ritual Caster options

I agree with above posts that adding an at-will to every class won't benefit the game much. However, I've recently been considering offering the option of paying a feat for an additional at-will. This would particularly benefit my parties' wizard, who currently only has Thunderwave and Magic...

Who Should Acquisitions, Inc Recruit Next?

That's his Fey Step racial ability. It's an encounter power, and he'd already used it during this long fight. Wheaton explicited mentioned this while in the acid.

    Waiting for the Seeker

The class ability Bloodbond which allows the Seeker to shift as a minor action when not wearing heavy armor is AWESOME.

    Alchemy instead of Ritual Casting.

This just recently came up in my latest campaign at character creation. On of my players wanted to swap her Ritual Casting feature for Alchemy, and I gave her three alchemical formulas to start with. It may not be RAW, but I encouraged it because Rituals haven't seen much use in my 4e games...

No love for DMG II !?!?

Companion characters seem about equal in power to a monster of the equivalent level, but less powerful than a full PC. In the Heroic tier companion characters only have 1 at-Will, 1 Encounter power, and 1 Utility power of equal to or less than the companion character's level. They gain more...

No love for DMG II !?!?

Wow! Mine came in the mail today, and I was so pleased by it! I'm seeing a lot of influence from Indie RPG design in the group storytelling section. I know I'm going to be using some of the suggestions for group character creation for my next Eberron campaign. The process reminds me of the...

Which magic item would you want most?

A Bag of Holding. The ability to carry my library and dvd collection with me wherever I go would be invaluable, since I'm a packrat and never want to get rid of anything. Of course, I'd be forever paranoid about losing it. So it would need some kind of enchantment where I could summon it back to me.

Have you converted your favorite novels into a campaign setting?

I've done this a few times, mostly back in my days of 2nd ed D&D. I ran a game in David Eddings' Belgariad/Mallorean world, played in a party of Elenic knights from his Elenium/Tamuli trilogies who were transported into Ravenloft for a short time. Earlier this year I cobbled together a D20...

    What's so special about Dragonlance?

I think most of the nostalgia for Dragonlance comes from the timing of the release of a novel line that directly related to the RPG product line. The Dragonlance series of adventures were a connected storyline that put the PCs in the position of determining the course of the War of the Lance...

Anyone use a "Frankenstein" game system?

I'm trying a Frankenstein's monster of a system for the first time in a serious manner in my current game. To try and create something that I can run a Dresden Files game using D20 mechanics I've cobble-together something that's mostly D20 modern, with Aspects from Spirit of the Century, and a...

Skill based magic in D20 games.

I'm working on a homebrew rules adaptation for D20 Modern using pieces of other d20 systems. So far its a skill and feat based, generally allowing degrees of success going up in 5 point increments on the skill rolls, and feats allowing access to more magic abilities with the three magic skills...

d20 modern Failed...why? (or did it?)

I think D20 Modern failed in lack of support, I was waiting forever for D20 Supers, but later found out the project was put aside when developers were shifted to Star Wars Saga Edition. But, I found it was a success for me and my group, at the time of its release. I've used its toolbox format...

    Fantasy Novels and D&D

George R.R. Martin - His Song of Ice and Fire series influenced my D&D 3.5 campaign in its war and political intrigue for the past 4 years. Best of the current generation of epic scope fantasy IMHO. Jim Butcher - The Dresden Files. I picked this up this summer on the recommendation of one of my...
