    D&D 5E (2014) How should be a d20 Superheroes?

Coincidentally, I just created these Eberron NPCs: The Avengers of Cyre: Owleyes (owlakocra arcane archer), Ironforged (warforged armorer artificer), Dr. Dunamancy (human graviturgist), Æsir (aasimar protector tempest cleric), Fist of the Dragon (dragonmarked sun soul monk), Captain Galifar...

    D&D 5E (2014) Should Intuition be a skill/ability?

You keep repeating your interpretations of the way the roles of DM and player have to be. You keep warning me about problems in my game that don’t exist. You keep challenging people to try things your way while asking them to trust you that they should never try mine. You keep telling me about...

    D&D 5E (2014) Should Intuition be a skill/ability?

Your response to the DM is to say practice describing to get better, but in response to potential issues of describing feelings is stop using that tool immediately. It works both ways. I challenge others to try both ways and work on making both useful.

    D&D 5E (2014) Should Intuition be a skill/ability?

If by "in other words" you mean taking my words to mean not what I said, then yes. I said it is additive. As I mentioned when such a roll would take place, it would be to give the players an idea of how powerful the skill is and add the randomness that dice rolling brings to game. It gives a DM...

    D&D 5E (2014) Should Intuition be a skill/ability?

I don't understand. You are saying a DM should never tell you how to think or feel, but they should tell you how to react? The DM mandating a PC's reaction seems a lot more controlling than offering stray thoughts and initial feelings.

    D&D 5E (2014) Should Intuition be a skill/ability?

Yes. The game would miss the moments that that would create, not that there wouldn't be other peak moments. Almost anything can be a crutch or harmful if executed poorly. I have not seen the research on this to see if it is done often or not, but I still think describing the environment can...

    D&D 5E (2014) Should Intuition be a skill/ability?

I always assumed Passive modified Perception rather than Check since it is usually referred to as Passive Perception, passively perceiving instead passively checking. It’s not a massive paradigm shift, but the nuance is noted. I appreciate your explanation. I’m not saying the player shouldn’t...

    D&D 5E (2014) Should Intuition be a skill/ability?

It seems like you are only allowing for your own interpretation of the rules. A passive perception check says it "can be used when the DM wants to secretly determine whether the characters succeed at something without rolling dice, such as noticing a hidden monster." A PC can breathe without...

    D&D 5E (2014) Should Intuition be a skill/ability?

I'm not sure why you tell me that I am mistaken about my own example. The PC is not actively doing anything but moving into a room of his house. That's why I would use his Passive Perception to see if he is subconsciously aware of an intruder. I never said it had too. I said it could. So in...

    D&D 5E (2014) Should Intuition be a skill/ability?

A Passive Perception check can be something like repeatedly searching for something, but I think it can also be actually passive, thus the name. Darkron Is in his home and walks into a room. An assassin stands behind the door hiding. Darkron isn’t actively searching, but as a DM I’ll use his...

    D&D 5E (2014) Should Intuition be a skill/ability?

If your definition of thinking and feeling are active, I think we are saying the same thing. To me it's kind of like when a Christian says that a bad thought popped into their head, but it wasn't a sin until they actively pondered it or acted upon it. I don't think a DM should force a layer to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Should Intuition be a skill/ability?

Yes, this why I'm leaning toward letting players substitute their 1 Plot Point a session for an Institution check (without a roll). This and I don't want them spamming intuition checks.

    D&D 5E (2014) Should Intuition be a skill/ability?

You say these things anecdotally but seem to implythey are facts. DMs can describe how the smell of a rotten corpse makes the rogue inspecting it feel: "Your stomach begins to knot up, and you feel as if you will soon vomit." The DM can rely the feelings of nostalgia that the barbarian feels...

    D&D 5E (2014) Should Intuition be a skill/ability?

I had a DM that would tell the party what they did between what they deemed important encounters to try to move things along -- that always rubbed me wrong for the loss of control. I then tried to do the opposite, never taking away player autonomy. However, recently, I have heard good arguments...

    D&D 5E (2014) Should Intuition be a skill/ability?

It seems a little like several of you are saying that if the players aren't picking up on clues, then the DM is doing a bad job. To me this gets back to the idea that players' skills are different than characters' skills. I don't ask David to try to pick up a 200 point weight and throw it...
