D&D 5E (2014) If you use thunderstep but teleport less than 10 feet do you take damage?

Sorry, what is “eg lead?” Do you mean the metal lead should block teleportation, if so why would it? How a spell works (the mechanics) is how the spell is written. The DM can add flavor/fluff, but fluff isn’t mechanics. When fluff negates damage, it isn’t just fluff any more.

D&D 5E (2014) If you use thunderstep but teleport less than 10 feet do you take damage?

I was just about to edit my response and add the reuse idea, which I agree seems most likely. While the wording does imply teleportation can be used for dimensional travel, it doesn’t make unambiguous that teleportation from point A to point B in 1 dimension requires the use of another...

D&D 5E (2014) If you use thunderstep but teleport less than 10 feet do you take damage?

While teleportation instances in 5e (that I have found) don’t use the word “simultaneous,” they do use words like “instantly” (one of the common definitions of “instantly” is “immediately,” which is the same word used to describe when the thunder occurs in the spell). Since 5e doesn’t rank these...

D&D 5E (2014) If you use thunderstep but teleport less than 10 feet do you take damage?

I appreciate your time attempting to answer my question. While I do have an opinion that Thunderstep could hurt the caster, I am open to a discussion to change my mind. You explanation mentions things being implied and casters half-teleporting or non-dimension-hopping. I’m having a difficult...

D&D 5E (2014) If you use thunderstep but teleport less than 10 feet do you take damage?

“Relocate,” yes, of course, stand corrected. It’s only a D&Dism as far as previous editions.

D&D 5E (2014) If you use thunderstep but teleport less than 10 feet do you take damage?

Neither of those are plain language or language that the rules use. Commonly, "transport" and "move" are used to mean an action that changes the location of that being teleported. As Tom mentioned above, not using "travel" creates more confusion.

D&D 5E (2014) If you use thunderstep but teleport less than 10 feet do you take damage?

5e does not have legacy rules; the 5e rules are what they say they are. They do not require players/DMs to search back into prior editions to determine what happens when a spell is cast. The spell does what it says it does. If anyone has found something in official 5e that talks about...

D&D 5E (2014) If you use thunderstep but teleport less than 10 feet do you take damage?

LOL, I don't know why that was on the screenshot. I went back to find it and only came up with this:

D&D 5E (2014) If you use thunderstep but teleport less than 10 feet do you take damage?

I don't understand how it could mean "transports you continuously along a path"? Teleportation does not use Speed. It ignores barriers and dangers that lie between the start and end points. Teleportation typically means "instantaneous travel between two locations without crossing the...

D&D 5E (2014) If you use thunderstep but teleport less than 10 feet do you take damage?

Or it's as simple as someone lighting a stick of dynamite and then not moving far enough away before it exploded, only there is magic involved. And in a broader sense gets at what happens during a teleport: is someone moving to fomenter-planar space and then back again or are they folding space...

D&D 5E (2014) If you use thunderstep but teleport less than 10 feet do you take damage?

That was actually my point: It seems unreasonable to let Misty Step teleport bypass damage in that manner so Thunderstep into damage range shouldn’t either. A spell doesn’t take you to another plane unless the spell says it does. A couple of questions: 1. Is there any evidence in 5e that...

D&D 5E (2014) If you use thunderstep but teleport less than 10 feet do you take damage?

If a character uses the Ready action for Misty Step — triggered by a dragon’s breath, can it teleport into another dimension to avoid damage completely before the teleport ends?

D&D 5E (2014) If you use thunderstep but teleport less than 10 feet do you take damage?

    1. The Teleport spell mentions “instantly transports,” so there’s more then just an instantaneous duration to be discussed. 2. There’s a storm. I look out the window and see lightning, then hear thunder. The lightning was instantaneous, the thunder came quickly but after. 3. Thunder travels...

Seeing how lizard men were changed to gender-neutral lizardfolk, heartswoodsman seems like a step backward.
