    D&D 4E 4E Redux

Fair enough. I think you could try making a loose list of attributes which could attach to 5e monsters on the fly. For eg: adding a 20' push to giant attacks, adding a 20' aura that does 1-8 necro damage to a specter, etc.

    D&D 4E 4E Redux

I agree with your premises and goals but wouldnt it be easier to spice up 5e rather than totally transform 4e? As I see if you revamp the battlemaster or give at will attacks to all martial classes, give monsters some further abilities/attacks you will go a long way to your goals with far less...

D&D 5E (2014) The Fiddly Bits (That Still Get My Newer Players)

We have had problems with inspiration, concentration and Spell Save DCs, Spell Attack Bonuses We now use inspiration as a reroll - so when it is an important roll we remember. That has solved that one. We tend to ignore concentration for damage. I think different mechanism for spells is an...

    Guns in D&D - A Hot Take

I am not sure where the idea plate armour was designed to stop bullets came from. Sure accuracy was a problem, but even early guns had considerable stopping power at short and medium ranges. This video may be useful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEPG98tTIlU

    D&D 4E In Defense of 4E - a New Campaign Perspective

I can certainly see why many people did not like 4e, but I found 4e to be a really pure expression of D&D expressed in clear, consistent and fresh fashion. I played a campaign till 30th level and the combats were lengthy, especially in Epic, but when you are fighting Orcus or Lolth then that is...

    Most frustrating quirk of 5E?

My overall minor gripe is not really having much to spend gold on. I would like to see more consumable magic items, masterwork items, more detailed weapons with strengths and weaknesses etc. This links to my broader feeling that I would like to see further options to customize my character. A...

    Iconic Bard?

I think inspiring word and strong lore/knowledge skills are the defining mechanics of Bards. I like the 5e bard and am content with it being a full caster - I think it works well thematically - I just wish it had its own spells.

Campaign Settings and DM Strictures, the POLL

I think I am the only one who voted number 1. When I play, I do so wholeheartedly by the DM"s rules and vision. But when I DM, I take the position that I will build a world around the characters (whatever they may be). I think D&D is best as collective world building exercise.

Nentir Vale Coming to Dungeons and Dragons

Fair point. I just mean that I would like for Fallcrest to be a touch more noteworthy and distinct - which means fleshing it out a touch more - it just feels too generic to me.

Nentir Vale Coming to Dungeons and Dragons

My preferences are for about a further 20% detail;) I like 4e and POL (despite not playing in Nentir vale - we played in POL version of Mystara). But I have two slight issues with POL and Nentir vale as written. One is a question of realism - where do the people in Fallcrest get their food and...

What songs make you think of DND?

Another vote for the band "The Sword". They have an album called Warp Riders which sounds like a sci fantasy campaign arc: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjKI_U9ENwU But much of their stuff sounds very D&D.

D&D 4E Mike Mearls on how 4E could have looked

I am happy to see him thinking across editions. It is always interesting for me to see what these designers are thinking about - and how further into an edition there concerns hae changed (and how each new edition of D&D seems to have elements of overreacting to issues in the previous one).

    Ideas for Improving Inspiration

We use it as a reroll as well. We also use it basically as an automatic short rest resource - the DM doesnt give it out on the fly.

    Mearls On D&D's Design Premises/Goals

It feels like that sometimes. Despite it not being a binary choice. I mean I like and play both 4e and 5e. While there is no denying the success of 5e at my table and more generally, I do find it missing the complexity and depth that 4e had (probably too much of!). I really respect both games...
