    Farewell to thee D&D

Its a good thing i am not advocating a "one true way", simply explaining the way it is. True, but its irrelevant. Because there is no "in world perspective" there is only a DM and a DMs players when you play DnD. No one else exists. The "20th level paladin" is created entirely so that the...

Forked Thread: Farewell to thee D&D

Just posting to let you know that 4e is a lot closer to 1e as you describe it than anything else. There is an emphasis on 1. The system is there to describe how the players interact with the world and help the DM not murder his players on accident 2. The players need to know only the rules...

    Farewell to thee D&D

O.K. Here is where you are failing and failing utterly. First off, lets get semantics out of the way. 1. A 20th level NPC paladin cannot be as important as a players 20th level Paladin doing the same thing. He cannot be because he is not the focus of the game. 2. There is no such thing as a...

D&D 4E Forked Thread: 4e And 4th Wall, was multiclassing - is Arcane Initiate too powerful?

No it doesn't. That is all you making it harder than it should be. From ignoring skill challenges, to having a crazy fetish for magic users, to flat out ignoring monster attributes. Are you sure the creature isn't immune to poison? Stone Golem: Immune: Disease, Poison, Sleep Homonculus: Clay...

    Farewell to thee D&D

Pretty much yes, the wizard starts declaring "I win" with first level spells.

    Farewell to thee D&D

What? What makes the experience different? You all get together, talk to each other, and have adventures. The only difference between an online game and an offline game is that when I play an offline game i wish i had a VTT to automize functions that eat up time unnecessarily. I ran a game...

D&D 4E Forked Thread: 4e And 4th Wall, was multiclassing - is Arcane Initiate too powerful?

Haven't we been over this before. There are rules in the DMG for doing exactly what you want to do. They're called "Skill challenges". And you will gain appropriate wealth by the selling of your item it will be removed from your treasure tables You will not notice this because it will all...

    Farewell to thee D&D

Jackie also uses a lot of props, which, if they aren't present, limit the "do all kinds of cool things" that you can do with page 42. Well, there is your problem. You don't want to play a game with your friends, you want to play a game with your friends incidentally in the room. Remove your...

    I hope you mean Antagonist.

    eDragon: Starlock feats and powers

Either way, the warlock could use some power creep, its pretty terrible. Oh, and the real problem with the sacrifice of Caiphon is that any class can MC into warlock and pick it up. So if you aren't planning on multiclassing into something other than a warlock, the sacrifice of Caiphon is...

    eDragon: Starlock feats and powers

E.H. When you realize just how much damage you are doing, it seems a bit more reasonable. A full attack from a high level solo isn't expected to break 27 DPR. And this will give you 27, 23, 11, or 17 pretty easily if you miss. Now, at level 1-7 its pretty darn good. But don't expect to be using...

    Diletant power for a Warlock?

Crap, forum ate my post. Anyway, ill condense it. You want Commanders Strike from the Warlord set. You can use it when you are getting your curse damage from another source, if another striker fails to get their extra damage(which will be higher than yours), and you get a bonus for having a...

3rd level changing my character. Maybe to wizard?

This is especially true of Wizards. Since wizards have many of their best abilities essentially removed from their intelligence stat. Flaming Sphere? Continual damage without an attack roll AND it blocks off a square for the enemy AND it does encounter power type damage as an attack which you...

    Maptools online game table

Maptools is simply amazing. I can make macros to do most of anything, it keeps bookwork to a minimum. You can add in topography to obscure things you don't want seen. You can keep accurate track of enemies that are invisible. You can hide traps, draw on the fly. Add templates for blasts and...

Is Fighter's Combat Challenge an OA or not?

The real issue is that 1. fighters OA's stop movement 2. 1 OA per round Means that CC as an OA means that enemies pretty much never have a reasonable way to get away from a fighter no matter what happens.

    New Rituaaaals

    Its 5+5 iirc, so if you've got a 22, you're getting 3 squares iirc. 5 for the basic, 5 for hitting 10, and 5 for hitting 20.

    New Rituaaaals

They tried this with wizards in 3e. It did not work.

    New Rituaaaals

    1. So what you are saying is that I am right and that your feat as written is broken and stupid? 2. Read the DMG. Plot seed is not missing in 4e. Almost nothing is missing in 4e. 4e is not a simulation, its whatever you need it to be at the time. If you want stuff to happen off screen, then you...

    New Rituaaaals

There is a large difference between "exactly 10 minutes from now" and "any time in the next 24 hours". This is exactly the reason that these types of spells had their duration changed to 10 minutes. Because "any time in the next 24 hours" is overpowered and breaks campaigns.

    New Rituaaaals

Well, in case you didn't notice. When you cast a ritual, it takes roughly 10 minutes. So if you want an effect you have to want it 10 minutes later as well. During that time, the situation can change. Now, lets say you can instead prep it and then cast it when you want. Well, now you don't...
