Why the heck are bags of holding so heavy?

So, even though I posted a houserule that would completely correct the problem of the 'empty bag weight', no comment on it?

Flanking: question about a special case

Yeah, except, you're in a *worse* position if you do that. Sure, if the rogue is flanking with her fighter buddy, they both get a +2 to attack you and you get an SA from the rogue. Close your eyes, and the fighter doesn't get the +2 to hit you, but the rogue still gets her +2 (or rather your...

Why the heck are bags of holding so heavy?

Oh, go play HM, what with their bags of hefty capacity and some such.... Didn't the largest one have the capacity of 15,000,000 lbs or something? with a square mile of space inside?

Why the heck are bags of holding so heavy?

I said 'Negligible weight' when empty*, which means it'd be like a Wooden Holy symbol (or any other equipment with a weight of - ). It weighs a couple of ounces or whatever other 'negligible' items weigh, but not enough to add to encumbrance. *My exact words were 'negligible when empty'...

Why the heck are bags of holding so heavy?

Actually, this did get me thinking, and I've come up with (what I think anyway) is a fair and equitable rule. A Bag of Holding is negligible by itself, and weighs either the weight of the amount of stuff crammed in it or it's maximum DMG weight, whichever is less. So, using the Type IV, if you...

Why the heck are bags of holding so heavy?

Well, my question to this is: Why'd you go for the Type IV right off the bat? A type I and a Haversack would have been half the money, and only weigh 20 lbs. If you had to 'search out' the Type IV (which I'm assuming from your post), you could have 'searched out' those other two items. My...

Why the heck are bags of holding so heavy?

It weighs as much as it does for exactly the reason you can't see. It's the drawback of being able to carry so much. Money, honestly, isn't a drawback for adventurers, even in a 'normal' campaign. There are only two ways to balance the Type IV (and it's the one, I see, you're having the...

    Blindsight and Hide checks

Yep. Someone hiding would need something physical to hide behind, same as someone trying to hide within 60' of a Dwarf or Half-Orc for instance.

    halfling feat?

Which means you can use the extra feat to take "Luck of Heroes" and get a +1 to all your saving throws. .. .. .. Oh, yeah.. and a +1 bonus to AC.

Why the heck are bags of holding so heavy?

First of all, it's not 'empty'. It's 'holding' an extradimensional space capable of keeping 3/4ths of a ton of items inside of it. Regardless of whether the extradimensional space has anything inside it or not, the bag 'holds' that space, and the 60 lbs is the cost. Second, why's the rogue...

Why the heck are bags of holding so heavy?

Oh, I don't know.. Maybe because it's letting you carry 3/4ths of a ton? Yeah, maybe the Type IV isn't as efficient as the Type III (25 lbs per lb of bag weight as opposed to 28.5 lbs per lb of bag weight), but... 1500 lbs of junk. For 60 lbs. I'd say that's more than acceptable.

    How helpful is blindsense?

Because all 1st level PCs wield +1 scythes. And are able to find a dragon's lair. Without getting killed on the way by a random encounter (especially in FR.. just look at the hill/mountain encounters). Or getting killed by what other things a dragon has guarding it's lair (Iron Golems in a...

does anyone else think half-orcs get gypped?

Except if the caster moves 30' upwind... or has a fly spell and flies upwards.. Let's face it.. by the time that an enemy caster has improved invisibility, the party caster should have See Invisibility (since that's only a 2nd level spell), which negates the advantage of the invisible caster...

does anyone else think half-orcs get gypped?

Scent may allow you to know that there's an invisible opponent, even the exact square that opponent is in if she's next to the creature with scent, but that does not dismiss the 50% miss chance for attacking an invisible opponent. So, it's not quite as powerful as it seems.

Rules that never made sense to you?

Hmm. I don't think having a readied action *stops* spellcasting... I think it may force a concentration check or Save which may fail and prevent the spell from going off.. but it's by no means assured.

    Regular Feat + Sudden Feat

While the rule was written before the 'Sudden' line of feats came out, I think it's fairly clear with the intent. "What does Empower Spell do?" "It Empowers the spell." "And what does Sudden Empower do?" "It Empowers the spell." Both feats empower the spell. Just because one lets you empower...
