    d6: pips or numbers?

Yes, there is. Unless you buy casino dice (which are specifically crafted to have equal weight on each side) or your drilled pip dice have larger pips on the lower number sides, then there is more weight on the side with the 1 than the side with the 6, so over all, it'll tend to roll more 6s...

    Bard Multi-Classing

I'm still going to suggest Melodic Casting (Complete Mage, pg 44). While it's true that lingering song allows Bardic Music to last longer than normal, with Melodic Casting, there's no need to even stop performing, and that means you can keep the music going without needing to waste another...

D&D 3.x getting rid of 'common' in 3.5 forgotten realms campaign?

All characters get Common and their 'home' tongue for free. I think it'd be interesting to remove common completely and it would lead to interesting RP; however, I think that most DMs would tend to forget that the PCs can't talk with an important NPC until much too late. For the simple fact...

    D&D 4E Hitting "reset": A counterpoint to "gritty" 4e

It's true that you can't know the full story without the full context. I haven't specifically stated "If my character dies, I'm done" to my DM, but the thought has crossed my mind much more than a few times recently. Why? Because it gets very tiring having a character die because the rest of...

    D&D 4E Hitting "reset": A counterpoint to "gritty" 4e

I don't think I like the 'reset' idea, but I definitely don't think "Gritty" and "D&D" really go together. There are enough Gritty systems for people who enjoy that sort of thing (as I do, as well). However, I'll say that under current 3.x, it's still fairly easy to get a 'meaningless'...

D&D 5E (2014) Critical Hits Appears to be Next in D&D Archive

Even if it's not, I'm sure it'll be in the House Rules book. Our group has been doing something similar currently anyway, where basically, if the only way you *can* hit is with a natural 20, then there's no confirmation roll because you can't score a crit. You were lucky enough to find that...

D&D 5E (2014) Critical Hits Appears to be Next in D&D Archive

QFT. I really want a game system that is as 'transparent' as possible. It's *highly* annoying to be in the middle of a tense combat and have the mood disrupted with "Possible crit... not a crit." "Oh, wait.. did you add in the Bard's Song? Don't you have a feat that provides another bonus...

D&D 5E (2014) Critical Hits Appears to be Next in D&D Archive

I've had many critical hits (when the confirmation roll has been good enough) with a dagger that have come up as 1+1 on the dice. My critical hit doesn't excceed what I can roll on 1 die. What's the point of confriming a crit and rolling what you can already roll without critting? At least...

Explain the appeal of critical fumbles to me

Never seen the need for them and I'm glad I don't play in any games that have them.

Have you seen/met any of these D&D "celebs"?

What? No Brom? The man who's art inspired Dark Sun? 'Cause I met him.

D&D 5E (2014) Critical Hits Appears to be Next in D&D Archive

I think it'll work nicely. Honestly, I've had enough criticals in 3.x that, even though they were criticals, ended up being less than I could have rolled without the critical. It's highly annoying to end up finally confirming a crit and still not having it do as much as a regular strike.

Conjuration (Creation) spells subject to DR?

Yet, based on that quote, DR only protects against P/S/B (IE physical) damage, not Energy damage, which 99% of the conjuration spells produce. So, again, the group is adjudicating incorrectly according to the rules.

Conjuration (Creation) spells subject to DR?

Not damage reduction, but energy resistance/immunity.

    4th ED Vision of Mystara

They're braids, not dreadlocks. And, to be honest, Mystara would be a great fit for 4e. All the limited informaiton I've read about 4e reminds me of Rules Compendium time and again. I'd love a return to Mystara, as it was always one of my favorite campaign worlds.

    Trying to play a warlock...

As far as grappling goes, lots of things can still outgrapple a human. Honestly, at the moment in our campaign, we're fighting Frost Giants. Our fighter types (good BAB) can't have a hard time outgrappling them. A warlock has almost no chance, human or not. Almost anything with swallow can...

D&D 4E 4E Halflings unrecognizable from Tolkien hobbits

I'm going to say that based on everything I've seen so far, it really seems WotC is looking back to the Rules Compendium and Mystara with 4th edition. Mystara had 'tall' haflings like we're seeing in R&C. So, honestly, as has been said before, these tall halflings are hardly a 'new' idea...

    Trying to play a warlock...

When your object is to stay at range, the armor bonus is definitely nice to have, as most things have less of a chance to hit at range than melee. As you've said, since the warlock is a feat heavy class, wasting a feat on Weapon Focus (Ray) is honestly a bad move. there are *so* many more...

Law and Chaos gone? Good Riddance!

I don't care if it's gone or not, but I *do* wish they'd fix it so it's consistent. Chaos is not the opposite of Law. It's the opposite of Order. Law is not the opposite of Chaos. It's the opposite of Anarchy. So either go with 'Ordered/Chaotic' or 'Lawful/Anarchist', but *make up your...

    Trying to play a warlock...

Easy travel is only 1500 gp. That makes +1 armor of easy travel 2660-2800 gp. I'd hardly consider that much money needing "high level" to aquire. And, considering the weight of armor and normal 'adventuring' gear, even your Str 8 human is going to be dipping into medium load pretty darn...
