    D&D 5E (2014) Post a character, get a Pic.

You are a talented artist and fantastically generous! Thank you very much!

    D&D 5E (2014) UA Warforged vs. Keith Baker's Warforged

This bit of utility is why I like your version over WotC's and Baker's. I can see how the ability in theirs are beneficial but to me the boons they give are sterile and uninteresting. They need to have more "ribbon" abilities to make the race unique to play.

    The Walking Dead (s7 spoilers!)

Negan wasn't recruiting Rick (and his crew) into Negan's team (the Saviors). Negan was introducing Rick into his extortion racket. Rick and his crew aren't part of the gang. They are the shop owners that are going to pay the gang to not beat them up and destroy their store. I think Rick was...

    D&D 5E (2014) Post a character, get a Pic.

Awesome idea, thanks for the consideration! My current character is Luska. He's a quarren pirate captain from the Star Wars universe. Aside from his fearsome demeanor his most notable feature is one tentacle, one arm, and part of his face were replaced with cybernetics and another tentacle...

    Horror movie suggestions

Well hello, Mr. Fancypants! It's not actually horror but Army of Darkness is the closest recommendation I have. Or for a non-D&D-appropriate time period horror movie I recommend the 2006 French-Romanian film, Them (aka Ils).

D&D 5E (2014) Why Eldritch Blast only targets creatures

The force damage is what gives an Eldritch Blast its power. It targets an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us (like Bigby's grasping hand) and penetrates us (like magic missile). It binds the galaxy together (until someone casts disintegrate).

    D&D 5E (2014) Reflections of an 8th Level Wizard

Indeed! It's always interesting to read actual reports of how characters played at the table.

I need a great role playing game that is played in short bursts.

My group did a campaign that was made of a string of one-shots that were linked together. Each session was a short story arc that we completed in that one session. Because our group's availability is sporadic these days the sessions happened irregularly. We used Fate Accelerated and its...

    D&D 5E (2014) Encouraging Independent Thought

One idea that might get the group to participate more is by giving the quieter ones leadership roles and the talkative ones rank-and-file roles. Sometimes giving the quieter players authority helps involve them more. It will require buy-in from the players. If the quiet ones don't want to be...

    D&D 5E (2014) Training to Level Up

That's what we do too but save the leveling between sessions rather than at a long rest so we spend more time roleplaying and less time updating character sheets.

D&D 5E (2014) As a DM, do I kill the entire party at the end? Im torn?

If you already suspect they'll ignore it but you want it to play a part in the finale, I recommend you really hammer home that it's a teleportation mirror. Either incorporate the three clue rule or flat out tell the knowledgeable PCs it's a teleportation mirror. Will the campaign continue and...

May the Fourth be with you

Do you nerds have any special Star Wars plans for today? My daughters and I are going to build some Star Wars Legos, watch Rebels, and my seven year old stockpiled craft stuff and is going to teach her sister and I how to make lightsabers.

    Cut scenes in your RPG

He is and I'm sure you would--we have some great RPG conversations! When he said that he was speaking in general for all of the characters and all of the cutscenes, not specifically for the prelude. I get what you're saying but his statement was pretty accurate. An interlude cutscene could...

    Cut scenes in your RPG

I posed to my GM why he used cutscenes instead of participatory scenes and if he thought a participatory scene could have worked better than a cutscene. This was his response:

    Cut scenes in your RPG

I wholeheartedly agree that we ought to be shooting for the moon--which is exactly what my GM did. He successfully engaged us in his game in a way that I haven't seen before and he engaged the players and the characters at the same time. Since most of the cutscenes occurred in places and with...

    Cut scenes in your RPG

I think that's a very fair critique of Lost. However, just because they did it poorly doesn't mean that it has to be done poorly. Plot threads that these GMs put in their cutscenes always had a payout in-game. There were threads that didn't have in-game payouts because the campaigns came to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fantasy Themed Bar Bets

You bet your mark that you can guess the card they draw from your tarot deck. If they want to sweeten the deal, let them draw up to three cards and you will guess each one. You should have a neutral party hold the wagers ahead of time in case they draw the Ruin card.

    Cut scenes in your RPG

I certainly am! I'm not saying Lost is the best plot ever. I'm very critical of many elements of Lost's story. But despite its flaws, in my experience and observations that show excelled at making viewers active participants along side of the characters rather than passively watching the...
