    Venting on Sorcerer build

Woof! I like randomness but that's too rich for my blood! There's a lotta things about sorcerers you don't know anything about, Rejuvenator. Things you wouldn't understand. Things you couldn't understand. Things you shouldn't understand. It doesn't explain dragon sorcerers but you...

    Venting on Sorcerer build

Aside from wild surges, what random elements does your gnome have? I liked how the 4E chaos sorcerer had many bits of randomness to it but I haven't noticed that much random stuff in 5E. (Although I haven't scoured the books thoroughly, so I could easily have missed stuff.)

    Venting on Sorcerer build

I agree but that's probably to limit how often that advantage class feature gets used. I'd jump at a house rule to use the wild surge table on cantrips with the caveat that they couldn't reset that advantage feature because the wild surge table is delightful.

    D&D 5E (2014) Classes you're hoping WotC will create

I'd love to see the 3.5 Binder. It's probably too specific to warrant making a new class for it but I loved the theme immediately. And I think bounded accuracy would suit it well to shrug off some it its jack-of-all-trades-and-master-of-none-ness.

Glad to hear it's going so well! Let us know how the finale turns out!

    Starship Bridge Battles

Riffing off of Anthony Lowe, maybe some sort of worker placement-like mini game would work with the crew splitting their effort to deal with whatever threat occurs each round. The GM would play situation cards that would have to be dealt with and the crew would have to deal with dodging attacks...

D&D 5E (2014) I believe the D&D boardgames actually hinder the table top game.

My friends and I didn't know anything about RPGs when we played Hero Quest. Eventually we learned about D&D and made the transition because we were houseruling Hero Quest into an RPG. Obviously our history is anecdotal but a board game was directly influential in bringing us to RPGing. Now my...

D&D 5E (2014) can warlocks be good guys?

What if it wasn't you who made the pact? What if a loved one (a parent) made the pact with the devil in your stead? The deal would be for the devil to give you the means while the price would be on your parent's head. If the character knew very little about their parent this could make...

BBEG advice... How to deliver good BBEG?

Or in Fate Core avoiding capture can be part of the villain's concession.

    Starship Bridge Battles

My group definitely struggled with this when playing a Star Wars Saga campaign. Space combat was fun for the pilot and sort of for the gunners but boring for the rest of us. My character manned a couple of support positions (I think engineering and communications) and my turns boiled down to a...

BBEG advice... How to deliver good BBEG?

One way to make the BBEG untouchable is by having them be part of society and have there be repercussions if the PCs go after them. Organized crime bosses are great examples of this. Heroes can't kill the boss because then they'll become criminals. Heroes can't take drastic actions against...

Human Interest Story at Battle of Hoth

Great suggestion. I've found that a writing some minor adversarial or individual goals into the characters works well in a one-shot. In my experience they inject a little variability into what otherwise would be a straight forward plot. And players are usually okay with getting backstabbed...

Human Interest Story at Battle of Hoth

And great idea to use FAE. My group runs a series of superhero one-shots using FAE and it's worked out wonderfully. Approaches make it incredibly fast to get a sense of how your character faces obstacles and the characters seemed quite capable when they play to their type. I.e., If your...

Human Interest Story at Battle of Hoth

The battle is over. In the escape the PC's transport ship was downed and largely destroyed. The PCs discover one of the escort X-wings could be made serviceable if they return to the hornet's nest that is Echo Base an retrieve a necessary component to fix the X-wing. Unfortunately the X-wing...

    D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on spending gold ...

The characters' stat blocks may not increase but the gold does increase the characters' effectiveness through more control of the narrative. To use secondhander's and Lancelot's players as examples the ships and pegasi they now own give them more freedom and options for traveling. The ship...

The Bamfsies Announce the Best Superhero RPGs!

My group uses Venture City to run our Young Justice-ish campaign set in the Sentinels of the Multiverse universe using Fate Accelerated. We're already fans of Fate, so it was an easy fit for us and in play you really feel like a superhero.
