Poison in literature and in gaming

I really enjoyed the take on poisons in 4E's executioner class. I loved how each poison had an in-combat application that had a generally less potent effect (e.g., X damage each round until they make a successful saving throw) when applied to a weapon and a non-combat application that had a...

    What's your exercise routine?

Twice a week I do an hour of interval exercises, two or three times a week I bike or run, and once a week I play racquetball. I find the best way I keep up with it is by making it part of my routine. I'm lucking enough to be permitted to take an hour break in the middle of my work day, so I...

    D&D 5E (2014) What Makes a Good Urban Adventure?

I like all campaigns to have numerous NPC organizations with varying motivations and goals and I find these work very well in an urban campaign since the single location forces their actions and plots to become embroiled among one another. The variety of organizations and plots give the players...

Dragonlance [+] Why do you love Dragonlance?

I love kender. And the original trilogy really sparked my imagination as a kid. Plus while it had next to nothing to do with the War of the Lance, Dragon's Rest was one of my very favorite D&D modules.

    Your favourite gaming mechanic?

That is a great one. It's funny how exciting a simple re-roll can be.

Players building v players exploring a campaign

One of my GMs writes his setting, the history for the setting, and his plot outline, then gives extra credit opportunities where players can create characters, events, places, and items for the campaign in exchange for one time use boons in the game. Players get to give as much detail as they...

    Ranking the Alien films

I liked 3 the best but I haven't seen it since I was young and thought stupid action movies were the height of cinema, so my impression could be way off. I was not impressed with Resurrection, Prometheus, or Covenant.

D&D 5E (2014) What would you play in this party?

Hands down a gnomish wild magic sorcerer.

    D&D 3.x Breaking Out 3E Again

My friend and I encouraged our GM to revive his 3.x Ptolus campaign under the 5th Edition system and almost had him on the hook until Rogue One inspired him to run Edge of the Empire instead.

    Your favourite gaming mechanic?

    I love Fate's character aspects--particularly when they're compelled. Technically it's not a mechanic but I also love 13th Age's One Unique Thing.

D&D 5E (2014) This is a directory of posters who think the sorcerer needs fixing

I would like to see additional spells that have a randomness aspect or otherwise jive well with the wild magic theme. I thought the wild magic sorcerer from 4E had cantrips, higher level spells, and class features that played up that theme well.

Where are all the great spy RPGs?

Seconded. The primary thing I recall about my group's attempt at Spycraft was it felt like we spent more time gearing up than spying.

D&D 5E (2014) Berserker Barbarian good or needs fix? What Fix?

I like the Intimidation ability. I sort of would like to see it with a rider that they can use a Strength check instead of Charisma, if they prefer. But if they change nothing, it's easily houseruled to how I like it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Players don't know they have a phylactery

That could provide a neat bit of misdirection if the party sees a former foe skulking after them in the shadows. They'd probably try to figure out how wicked Prince Johan survived their attack and what his plans are, without considering it's really the lich and without working against the her...

Where are all the great spy RPGs?

Gumshoe RPG has the Preparedness skill that helps minimize planning and maximize execution. I'm fuzzy on the details though. I don't remember if it just gives you access to equipment in hindsight or if it gives you more freedom on what you planned. Dusk City Outlaws and I think Blades in the...

    D&D DeckBuilder Coming Soon!

It sounds like it might be similar to FFG's Arkham Horror card game.

Mad Manticores and Parrotbears! Oh My! Exploring Mortzengerstrum, The Mad Manticore Of The Prismatic

I love the artwork for the cover. It reminds me of a vintage Sword in the Stone poster I had.

D&D 5E (2014) Nonstandard Races You Love And Want Back

I like the contradiction of ratfolk--how they originate from a base creature but have a noble cause. I like the fangwyrms for their originality. They don't sound like a race I've seen before. And for whatever reason their four parts (kobold, friendly critter, snake, and hungry piranha) are...
