Top end of +N weapons and armor?

As I've said before, I'd rather all +n weaponry (and other equipment) went the way of the dodo. However, I'm well aware that that outcome is unlikely. Given that it almost certainly will show up in some form, I'd be happiest if it was limited to +1. I'd be even happier if those +1 items were...

    Alignment in D&DN...

Whatever system they put in, I don't plan on using it. So as long as they don't tie any non-optional mechanics to it, they can do whatever they want as far as I'm concerned.

    Level Titles

Try becoming the head of the Anglican church and calling yourself Pope. See how well that goes over. I mean, clearly, you can't rise any higher in the ranks of your organization, so you must have the same job title as someone else in a similar position... Not all churches are going to follow...

    D&D 5E (2014) Should the +1 Sword Exist in 5E?

Though I fully expect that +n weapons will show up, being one of those things that have always been in the game, I sincerely wish they'd go away. As powerful and useful a tool as mathematics can be, I don't find math magical. I'd be quite happy if magic items descriptions never needed to...

    What's the Problem with Save-or-Die?

I'd never argue for anything to do 1000d6 damage. Past a certain point, values are better off being set, rather than random. One also reaches a point where there's no point in going any further. If n damage kills everything published, there's not much point in adding any effects that do n+1...

    What's the Problem with Save-or-Die?

Pretty much what I was going to say. Want an effect that can kill instantly? Make it do enough damage to kill instantly. ∞ is not a valid damage expression.

    L&L 3/05 - Save or Die!

I'm not a big fan of save or die, for players or monsters. However, if such things are to exist, I find the proposed system unnecessarily clunky. If you want SoD effects to interact with the HP system, don't go half-way, go all the way. Instead of: The medusa's gaze forces creatures...

    D&D 5E (2014) Random Encounters in 5E

I voted lemon curry. I've never had lemon curry. Is it good? I'm also fairly certain I've never experienced a random encounter. I've never used one as a DM. One of the pre-written adventures I've run had some. I think I rolled on the table and got a result of "No Encounter", but I can't...

What is a rogue to you?

I never said it was a thief. I said it was a rogue. All thieves are rogues, not all rogues are thieves. [/FONT]No, it's not.

What is a rogue to you?

I was going to write another one of my usual posts, grabbing quotes from throughout the thread and responding to them specifically. However, instead I've decided to go back to the titular question: What is a rogue to you? A rogue to me is the guy who doesn't play by your rules. He's Han Solo...

What is a rogue to you?

I'm really unclear on what the issue is here. What, precisely, did the Thief have that isn't available to the Rogue? What things could he or did he do that any appropriately put-together Rogue can't do just as well (or even better)? As far as I can tell, the Rogue killed the Thief, took his...

D&D Blog - Kings and Castles

While my question was mostly in jest, now that I've heard the mechanic I'm going to toss it into my box labelled Do not want. I'd like to think that most of my characters are generally attentive enough to have noticed at some point during the course of a nine month pregnancy that it was...

Fighter vs. Wizard - what's your preferred balance of power?

While I'm not sure that I agree on the bottlenecks, the discussion is probably tangential enough to deserve it's own thread. In short: while I agree bottlenecks and railroads are best avoided where possible, I do think that good and even great DMs sometimes make use of them. Not everyone is good...

Fighter vs. Wizard - what's your preferred balance of power?

I would posit that the mixture of pillars is determined by the players to the extent that the DM allows it. If the DM wants an event to happen, it happens. All they have to do is say so. If the DM wants your Orc scenario to result in a combat scene, then attempts at negotiation are refused...

    Sorceror Mechanics

I don't see the need for calling it a separate class when it's Wizard Lite. If people want a non-Vancian spell-caster that has access to the exact same abilities the wizard does, I don't see why that's not just "Wizard (Non-Vancian)", and obtained through class feature choice, or feats, or...

D&D Blog - Kings and Castles

Winter lasted 9 months? Being several steps above most of the rest of the land does not inherently equate to being a leader of men. It's one of many possible ways to reflect that concept, but it's far from the only way. Another way is fame/infamy. A character so renowned that he can't go...

D&D Blog - Kings and Castles

Unless I'm misinterpreting you, this is very much counter to what I want. I don't want leadership to be something that's automatically thrust upon any character, at any level of play. There are many high-level character concepts (and players who enjoy high-level play), that simply do not want...

Fighter vs. Wizard - what's your preferred balance of power?

If level doesn't mean power level, and thus all characters of a given level are of equal power, then what useful purpose does it serve? If a wizard is more powerful than the fighter, then he's a higher level than the fighter. If a fighter is more powerful than the wizard, then he's a higher...

    Balancing Save-or-Die

Even without Death Attack or your hypothetical prep bonus, in 4E that example would be an instant death. Part of the 4E coup de grâce mechanic is "Slaying the Target Outright: If you deal damage greater than or equal to the target’s bloodied value, the target dies."

    The Cost of Using Magic?

Any PC that manages to survive a combat whilst naked, blindfolded, and having both arms tied behind their back should totally get bonus XP. ;)
