D&D 5E (2024) Magical effects in the MM

Many effects that were spell effects or called magical don't say so anymore. RAW per glossary that means, they are not magical. A basilisk used to turn someone magically into stone. Arcane bolts used to be melee or ranged spell attacks. While the basilisk gaze is called supernatural in the...

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

Yeah. They just named it wizard because they are called wizards of the coast... ... shame on them... oh wait...

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

My assumption is that the game mainly consists of highly optimized characters with players whi really know what they are doing (playing every week for 4 hours, in person?) focussing on combats. And I assume a DM that does not realy know how to deal with it. Yes, high level combats can be...

D&D General People make amazing D&D Art

First, I love your art style. I thought it was a grell at first glance. Now I think this looks like the child of a beholder and a grell. Very cool.

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

Ok, your sessions seem to be very efficient. Probably because you can play every week.

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

It only does harm if WotC does it. That is what I take ftom this whole discussion. That does not mean they fail at soime things (cough suggestion, cough polymorph et al., cough beholders, cough "forgetting" to include guidance dor cistomizing NPC statblocks) That does not mean all the outrage...

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

So they are between a rock and a hard place. Do and offend someone. Don't and offend someone. So stick to tradition or remove connections to real world religions. They decided to universally remove real world religions connections. There are no shamans either in the rule book. Similar...

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

I just used guards as Orcs. Increased Str to 14. Reduced AC to 15 by reducing armor to studded leather and gave them all orc traits (despite the recommendation not to tinker with str or to add abilities that confer temporary hp). My guess was that this raises CR to 1/4 and that was a very good...

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

Yes, vicious weapons do more damage. But don't add to hit. But yeah. Being resistant to all damage is ice. But you said, half the monsters are dead before they acted. So it does not make a difference anyway.

D&D 5E (2024) Wrapping up first 2-20 2024 campaign this week, some of my thoughts

Most of the party wearing 10 rings of resistances (all rare). I think that is nowhere near the recommended amount of magic items. The DMG table is per party, not per PC...

D&D 5E (2024) Is anyone at WOTC paying attention to what they print any more?

I think we should stop rationalizing it as specific beat general and accept that the second save and further should be constitution based. It probably was just an oversight. I faintly remember to have seen the same kind of error anywhere else in an older book. But I am not sure where... maybe...

D&D 5E (2024) Above the Table Interview with Jeremy Crawford.

Nice interview, but I have one question: Why is the background music tuned so high? It is terribly annoyjng to listen to.

D&D 5E (2024) What grade do you give the Winter Walker? Green/Yellow/Red?

Actually, in the light of the new MM, I think the ranger class looks way better than I thought. Their only level 4 spell without concentration is freedom of movement. The only spell that makes you immune to being restrained. So many monsters can di that without save. Petrifying monsters will...

D&D 5E (2024) Is Oath of the Noble Genie Green, Yellow, or Red?

AC = 10 + dex + cha and an optional shield would be good enough. Or: only +cha when wearing light armor (not when using no armor.) and no shields. That at least doesn't let it stack with unarmed defenses.

D&D 5E (2024) Check Out The New Monster Manual’s Ancient Gold Dragon

Just looking at averages is not enough. A 65% chance to hit 4 attacks in a row tells us more. Better even to calculate with cumulated binomial distribution how likely it is to hit x or more times in y attacks. The law of big numbers (is it called that way in english) tells us that y must be...

D&D 5E (2024) Spellfire Sorceror what did you score it Green/Yellow/Red?

I skipped to rate then. I wanted to emphasize how much I don't like how the paladin AC bonus works. And how much i don't like the adding of skills with expertise at the same time without a rule to replace an already learned skill. And I wanted to emphasize that I don't like the purple...

    D&D 5E (2024) Lycanthropes in the MM

Which is totally wrong. A lot of things resist p/b/p. Anything that is incorporeal and swarms, some titans (tarrasque, empyreans). I counted around 33 monsters. A few only resist piercing. Funny thing is that between CR9 and CR18 there is a big gap. Mordenkainens and Fizban also have a few...

They don't have that ability anymore. The monk can do force damage.

    D&D 5E (2024) Monster Manual Errata up.

No. It is not. I calculated it in my thread. It is between +50% damage (with ally adjacent) or +100% damage (without one).

Yes. Sometimes annoying. I found a way to delete those drafts: empty the message and try to post.
