    D&D 5E (2024) Hobgoblin warriors

I was not complaining and yes, at that level I am always worried about a TPK.

    D&D 5E (2024) Hobgoblin warriors

No. It has not been this way. Even if it both fits the bad monster building advice in the 2014 MM. The added ranged damage is especially is terrifying. And attcking with advantage for the same damage as 2014 WITHOUT advantage is definitely an upgrade. Because in every case where the old...

    D&D 5E (2014) What's a Yugoloth?

Fun fact: the ghoul has multiattack as CR 1 creature, the Ghast has not as CR 2 creature. The Ghast's claws however are way more damaging.

    D&D 5E (2024) Hobgoblin warriors

Advantage on attacks is no small buff. It is a huge buff. You contradict yourself: the old +2d6 damage relied on allies next to their target. You said they did equally much damage as now. So what is it? Do they have allie or no? And with bows, allies next to the target is even less guaranteed...

    D&D 5E (2024) Hobgoblin warriors

Corrected the Typo. No. Nit the same as before. Advantage on many attacks, a good ranged option. That is in my opinion too much on the offense side. Compare that with the old orc which already was a bit too good for CR 1/2. I think they are overtuned. A few CR 1/2 creatures are overtuned...

That was my vibe too. Hobgoblins will replace orcs.

    D&D 5E (2024) Hobgoblin warriors

Did anyone notice the hobgoblin warrior stat block... CR 1/2 Only 11 hp, but: AC 18 (with a shield) Longsword attack +3/2d10+1 damage (yes, two handed damage and an extra d10 on top!) Longbow: +3/d8+1 damage... And an extra 3d4 poison damage. But now you say: the to hit bonus is low (only...

    D&D 5E (2024) I have a Monster Manual. AMA!

If you account for the fact that toughs don't have multiattack, you are correct. This comment was based on Fritz's comment that the tough is exactly like the thug before. Which we both corrected later. Yeah, orcs were strong. I still think 32 hp is a bit too much for CR 1/2 creatures. 25 or...

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

Yes. I agree mostly. It would have been so easy to include that table from them 2014 MM slightly modified: senses, languages, speed, one defining trait. Or the statblock itself should mention common + 1 other language. And senses: darkvision up to 120ft.

    D&D 5E (2024) Lycanthropes in the MM

Why are you speaking of "shiny new blocks" then?

    D&D 5E (2024) Lycanthropes in the MM

Actually the new stat blocks have reduced the reliance on magic... Since the premise is false, the conclusion can't be right. But you double down calling new players naive?

    D&D 5E (2024) Lycanthropes in the MM

I really don't like the troll like regeneration for Lycanthropes. I am glad they did not do that. And actually I am glad they don't have too much regeneration. It is annoying to keep track of.

Then make it that way. Noone stops you. As noone stops me from reducing Lycanthrope AC to 10+dex when not shape shifted.

    D&D 5E (2024) I have a Monster Manual. AMA!

Thank you for taking the time. Yeah, I do agree in many places. I think the new animals are in a good spot. CR 1's with less than 30 hp. And Many CR 2 creatures are in the 40 range. I think CR 1/2 HP should never be higher than 20.

I looked up the AD&D 2e version and magic weapons also helped there.

    D&D 5E (2024) Lycanthropes in the MM

The death dog curse was nerfed however. A successful save later ends the effect :( What I don´t like is that were-creature AC does not change when in human form. Actually being in hybrid form does not give much benefits to those creatures RAW. Only being able to spread the curse, which I don´t...

    D&D 5E (2024) Lycanthropes in the MM

I do like it. Silver weapons are common magic items. So for 100 gold, you can get it. And it does extra damage against shape-changed creatures on a crit. Does not come up often, but it can help. I would not have minded if silver weapons always do one extra damage die against shape-changed...

    D&D 5E (2024) I have a Monster Manual. AMA!

Browsing through the MM, I actually quite like most of it. I am a bit sad, that false appearance as trait was ditched. I did not like it how it was in the MM 2014, because it worked 100%. I liked it how it worked in later books, where an investigation DC was used to determine something is...

How the Monsters Have Changed in the 2025 Monster Manual: Aarakocra

It is half agreeing and half not. I think as loot giving everyone special weapons is not fine. Giving them as rewards in some way might be. 3e was terrible ins that way: to make NPCs even stand a chance, you needed to add magic items. So +1 weapons were just thrown away at some point...

    D&D 5E (2024) I have a Monster Manual. AMA!

Correction: toughs lost multiattack and now just have pack tactics. That makes them a lot more balanced and should be more reliable enemies for PCs. I guess like there are now Goblin minions for rank and file Goblins, probably bandids now serve better as rank an file orcs. In my opinion Orcs...
