D&D 5E (2014) The "Perfect" (for me anyway...) Ability Generation System(s)

At that point just roll a d6 and take the corresponding one of those rolls is way less effort.

D&D 5E (2014) The "Perfect" (for me anyway...) Ability Generation System(s)

    I like: 4d6 no duplicates, treat 2 as 0, drop lowest. This goves very desirable results: average 12.2 Only 1 in 15 chance for 8, 9 or 11. 2 in 10 chance for 10, 13 or 14 3 in 10 chance for 12 or 15. Which I absolutely like. 12s and 15s are most appreciated. 10, 13 and 14 a little less. And...

At least all the changes have really sparked my curiosity.

I am still baffled how one can be so upset about that change... ...other than having older modules be a bit less fitting if goblins are fey... I am a big fan of the old treasure hunt module. Right now I am not sure how fey goblins work as pirates... I have to think about that.

    D&D 5E (2014) What is a PC's "CR"?

I would give you 10 thumbs up for finding that formula.

    D&D 5E (2024) Just DMed my 1st session of 5.5. Healer's Kit!?!?!

I think the problem here is making rounds only 6 seconds. That was a mistake in 3e. It has too many implications like one attack = one swing with a weapon. I admit, 1 min rounds as in 2e was a bit much. Maybe I had prefered 15 to 20 second rounds or so. Enough time to load a crossbow. Enough...

    D&D 5E (2024) Monster Manual 2025 Stat Block Compilation

It is still nice. Necrobomb has a con save and the grafted target gets disadvantage. Not totally bad. Maybe no damage, so you don't forget to deal it each round. I have noticed passive damage is often forgotten. And on top of that: some people said str saving throws are useless now....

D&D General Ray Winninger on 5e’s success, product cadence, the OGL, and more.

This will come in time. Seems the timing did not work perfectly the VTT is not ready (once again) and the OGL debacle and the eone purchase and the movie not generating income was not helping at all. Self made problems...

D&D General Ray Winninger on 5e’s success, product cadence, the OGL, and more.

A cleanup. That's it. But right now I think they did not hit the mark perfectly. In some places more cleanup was needed (spells). I still think the overall improvement is ok. But it could have been better. I think it is a similar issue to ToV. Why buy books that don't do enough. For Core...

    D&D 5E (2024) Just DMed my 1st session of 5.5. Healer's Kit!?!?!

I do actually like that. But then spare the dying and any healing spell should work in the same way. Question is, how do you translate healing into death saves? Maybe one point of healing to remove failed saves and another point per succeful save you still need. And the remaining hp is what...

Ok. I don't see a big difference between those two.

D&D 5E (2024) What is With Poison?, and Other PHB Conundrums.

You should not value spells by that metric though. I think they should have kept it in some places. I liked it on monsters that should be immune to non heroic characters. But I would have loved a different rule: legendary creatures are immune to damage from creatures of CR less than 1.

D&D 5E (2024) What is With Poison?, and Other PHB Conundrums.

There is no case where you need an emergency magic weapon anymore. Elemental damage is more powerful.

Correct. The new invalid target rule should cover that.

    D&D 5E (2024) Just DMed my 1st session of 5.5. Healer's Kit!?!?!

Misreading rules as the OP? ;) You mean if someone uses a medicine check, it just counts as anither save which can be a failure or success? So 3 medicine checks to stabilize? So potions are out of combat stuff?

    D&D 5E (2024) Just DMed my 1st session of 5.5. Healer's Kit!?!?!

    D&D 5E (2014) Lesser Vorpal Sword

Depends on how you interpret it. In our games we always gave the item to the one who can use it best for the group. Insisting on selling it so you get some share is egoistical, because everyone looks at their own pocket instead of looking at the party as a whole.

    D&D 5E (2024) What's Your 2026 WotC D&D Wishlist?

They could always be stronger than taller species... Compare swirfneblins with grey elves for example. The whole argument that a little +1 or +2 modifier stops species from being more than a skin is rediculous. And if you go to monsters: the average redcap has intrinsically 18 Str and...

    D&D 5E (2014) Lesser Vorpal Sword

That sounds like a very egoistical way of playing. The only real benefit of confirmations is that you don't crit if the enemy is very hard to hit. Maybe I will introduce the rule that you can't crit if a natural 20 would not hit the enemy. But usually that is no problem. Perhaps allowing a...
