October - What are you Reading?

Finished 'The Androids dream' yesterday. Lots of fun. Back to 'The Singing Sword', and then afterwards, I'm thinking of reading Scalzi's other book, 'Agent to the Stars.' (Since I've now read everything he's written so far aside from that.)

October - What are you Reading?

Sitting here in the library the other day, I saw that John Scalzi had another book 'The Andriods Dream." Had to put in a request, it arrived this morning. I can't wait. I guess it means I'll have to renew my other books in a few days...

October - What are you Reading?

Picked up "No Country for Old Men", based on reccomendations here. Not my cup of tea I must say. I'm now in book two of the Camulod chronicles, "The Singing Sword." Jack Whyte is quickly becoming one of my new favorite authors.

October - What are you Reading?

So help me out here... I'm looking to branch out. I've noticed lately that the kinds of movies I've been getting into are 'mysteries.' Not Sherlock Holmes type mysteries, or murder mysteries, though a few of them sneak in. I'm talking about things like 'The wicker man', where something is...

October - What are you Reading?

I'm well past the halfway point in 'The Skystone." I figured I better step in and amend what I said about it so far. Once you get to where Varrus (the protagonist) retires, the tone shifts away from a 'starship troopers' style. Still immensly enjoyable, and I hope soon we get more of a hint...

October - What are you Reading?

I have every volume so far released. I have enjoyed them greatly, though I am led to wonder if the next book or two (the last of the series, he says) aren't just going to be sort of an 'afterthought.' I said last week that I was reading 'A Game of Thrones.' It isn't bad, or poorly written...

September - What are you Reading?

Now to 'A Game of Thrones.' You know, I didn't used to read that much. Guess once the cable's gone, and the internet as well (i'm at the library right now), I have a lot of free time...

September - What are you Reading?

Finished 'Children of Hurin' yesterday. The underlying story is good, as ever, but like I said, the telling just seemed flat to me. As I was checking out a couple of videos yesterday, the patron before me returned 'The Chronicles of the Imaginarium Geographica: Here, There Be Dragons.' Its by...

September - What are you Reading?

"Children of Hurin' came in. I'm not sure about it. I'll finish it, to be sure, but it just doesn't seem the same. Something is a bit 'off' in the telling. Maybe because now it's Christopher and Adam Tolkien doing the work (as opposed to just Christopher, too many cooks?).

September - What are you Reading?

Well, I'm done with Scalzi, and I just finished Dean Koontz' 'Forever Odd.' I'm not in a hurry to pick up 'Brother Odd' yet, so that leaves me between books. What now? I've placed an order for 'Children of Hurin', but who knows how long it will take the library system to free a copy for me...

September - What are you Reading?

I was in a similar boat. My dad kept recommending it to me. I finally read the entire series a couple of years ago. Once I started I couldn't put it down. I will say that I found the second series (books 6-10) a bit flat by comparison. Of course, I still went out and bought all 10 books...

August - What are you reading?

Nah, you didn't kill it, folks probably just got busy. (And due to circumstances beyond my control, I have to wait until I can get to the library for internet access.) I've read Scalzi's first two books, enjoyed them immensely. (Old Man's War and The ghost Brigades.) I'm picking up the third...

    Prophecy needed.

I think this one is fairly good, it at least gives me something to work with, thanks.

    Prophecy needed.

I'm putting together an online campaign for a few friends of mine, and I'm drawing a blank. Basically, The church is feeding everybody this story about a prophecy about to come true, and as a result, the common folk believe that the world is about to end. This is spawning a mass exodus through...

August - What are you reading?

I've really been enjoying 'Old Man's War', even if its a bit predictable at times. So much so that I've got 'The Ghost Brigades' on deck for when I finish. I may even try to pick up the third one 'The Last Colony' after that.

August - What are you reading?

Went to the library today, having finished "The Elegant Universe." Now I have "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead." I'd heard of the movie, did not know it existed in print form, (at least, until it was mentioned here, thanks again ENworld!) and was lucky enough to find that the library had...

    Magic Item Compendium, p. 44

I took a look, and I agree. Someone should post what it says. I ain't gonna do it though. Not me. Is Hong around?

August - What are you reading?

I've been having the oposite reacion to that one. While I don't think its the greatest story I've ever read, and does turn predictable here and there, I've followed the entire saga. And once we get the bills caught up from our accident this summer, I hope to read the final book (Which I think...

What nice things has a fellow EN Worlder done for you?

You know, I've been here a long time and heard a lot of stories. I've never gotten any of this kindness, but mostly because I'm too proud to ask. And beleive me, I could use the charity. This is a great place, and I'm glad so many people are willing to help out complete strangers.
