Mainstream News Discovers D&D's Species Terminology Change

I think you mean melanin. And saying race is about skin color is a bit overly simplistic. You can be racist against someone that has the same skin color as you (anti-Irish racism in America is a good example). But, yes, race is a social construct. Typically created to justify discrimination...

2025 Monster Manual Will Contain Over 85 New Monsters

One of my most memorable recent encounters was with a more powerful Giant Spider that had vampiric powers and created spidersilk mummies.

2025 Monster Manual Will Contain Over 85 New Monsters

Yeah. I liked the few templates we got in the original 5e Monster Manual. It would have been nice to get rules for monsters that have been corrupted by necromancy, fiends, or ceremorphosis.

2025 Monster Manual Will Contain Over 85 New Monsters

The first D&D book I ever owned was the 2014 Monster Manual. I got it for Christmas in 2016 and had only started playing the game a couple months before. It was my first introduction to most of the classic D&D monsters and I spent the whole day reading the book. One of the problems I had in my...

D&D 5E (2024) "D&D Monster Manual 2025 is going to pack a serious punch thanks to a family of monsters descended from gods, and frankly I’m terrified"(Gamesradar)

Like @pukunui said, the new Stone Golem has a ranged attack, so they’ve probably given the Tarrasque some way of dealing with Ranged and/or flying enemies. I would probably give it an aura that prevents flight in an aura. And maybe a ranger spine or acid spit attack.

D&D 5E (2024) "D&D Monster Manual 2025 is going to pack a serious punch thanks to a family of monsters descended from gods, and frankly I’m terrified"(Gamesradar)

I also echo the sentiment that we needed more high-level monsters in the MM. In the original 5e Monster Manual there were no monsters from CR 25-29. And there were only two CR 24 monsters (Ancient Red/Gold Dragons) and the Tarrasque was the only CR 30 monster. This was a problem once campaigns...

D&D 5E (2024) "D&D Monster Manual 2025 is going to pack a serious punch thanks to a family of monsters descended from gods, and frankly I’m terrified"(Gamesradar)

I’m pretty sure there were some monsters in Van Richten’s and Fizban’s that had it. Have newer books (Bigby’s) not included it?

Henry Cavill's Warhammer 40K Show Is Happening

I think a 40k show could absolutely work, but the genre of the show and writing need to be right. A satire in line with Starship Troopers could absolutely work. Or a dark comedy like Jojo Rabbit. Andor is definitely a great series to look to as an example of a modern show that does a good job at...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

I, like @Oofta, hope that the updated “Make Your Own Monster” table is in the new Monster Manual. I have gotten a lot of use out of the original 5e table and it’s absence from the new DMG is a huge problem if it isn’t going to be in the Monster Manual. Here’s to hoping WotC just made a smart...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

Let's get things back on topic, shall we? I am pretty sure I have only used Stone Golems a single time. They're one of those monsters that you can't really use until fairly late in the campaign, and once you do your players probably have a lot of powerful options to deal with it. the one time I...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

So, will you stop making your gripe with WotC over their approach to canon/metaplot our problem anymore? Maybe start your own thread about how you don't like it, so you can talk with other people that did like metaplots? I would prefer if discussions about (checks where this tangent began) the...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

There were a ton of retcons in 4e Eberron that did not make it to 5e because the fanbase didn't like them (Baator, trying to organize the Orrery cosmology like the World Axis, anyone being allowed to gain Dragonmarks, etc). There are some retcons that did survive 4e Eberron, because the fanbase...

D&D Releases Playtest for Updated Artificer

The original Artificer class playtest from 2017 had the Wondrous Invention feature, where they created permanent magic items, getting more options and amounts of magic items at higher levels. They moved away from Artificers making permanent magic items towards the Infusion system for the Eberron...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

No, it isn't "far too late." Your argument is "D&D has done worldbuilding wrong for decades, so they have to keep doing it that way forever, except for the one setting that got it right." Like I mentioned, steps can and have been taken to prevent this "setting is story" nonsense. Rewind Dark Sun...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

From just a bit of googling, it seems that Tolkien generally didn't like the Gaelic languages (Scots Gaelic and Irish). But he liked the country and Irish mythology had some influence on his writing.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

Settings aren't stories, they are a place to facilitate interesting stories. And the way settings are built to facilitate these stories needs to depend on which medium the setting is being made for. TTRPG settings need to be built to facilitate stories in game for the players. Just like how the...

D&D General How do you use giants in your game?

I don't really like most of the main giant types in D&D. The few times I've used them felt unsatisfying, in part because I just don't think their lore is interesting. I'm currently leaning towards making giants be descended from angels in my setting, based on the Nephilim. Empyreans will be...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

Sure. Eberron fans did for Dragonborn. The issue is the quality of the addition. Not whether a metaplot was used to justify it. Because, clearly, a lot of Forgotten Realms fans did not accept the Spellplague and all of its changes, which is why WotC had to walk it back with yet another metaplot...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

I'm not calling the act of writing metaplots anti-creative. I'm calling the absolutist position that all lore changes must be justified by a metaplot or they're automatically bad uncreative.
