    Picard Season 3

I am ready for Star Trek: Shaw. This season is taking the the best thing from the original films; mediations on mortality and the road not taken punctured by big screen space opera action. Not quite repeating the likes Khan so much as rhyming with it. (loved the retcon-ish reason for powering...

D&D 5E (2014) A Mess of OP Characters (magic items, rest mechanics, etc.)

I think you can fix a lot by redesigning the encounters. More opponents, more opponent actions, etc. Consider giving bigger bads lair or legendary actions, even if they're technically not big or bad enough to get them. This is going to make combats more complicated and slower. Slower is probably...

    The Ark 2023

It’s a Heinlein juvenile reimagined as a CW show. I watch it when I want some easy viewing.

What if We Got Rid of Character Creation?

What @Dannyalcatraz said. Alternately, I already have Final Fantasy and Mass Effect. It’s nice to play a different sort of RPG for a change. Also, I like making characters. It’s, like, a creative outlet when I‘m not running the game.

D&D Movie/TV Do you think the D&D Movie will be good?

I expect it will be as good as a mall bookstore fantasy paperback. Which is as good as I need it to be. (it’s not going to be House of the Dragon good)

Warner Bros wants to make Lord of the Rings films. Not remakes, fyi.

You know, there are some perfectly good Riftwar novels you could start adapting...

PbtA Games: Sell One Well +

Our next campaign is going to be about a trial program of roller-skating cops in Santa Monica in 1977. Like a cross between CHIPS and Roller Boogie with some Barney Miller mixed in. Spirit of ‘77 is the prefect system for this (also the inspiration). Does that sell or unsell it? I don’t know.

D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

I almost TPK’d 4 5th level 5e characters with a single CR6 monster. (1st round of combat, annis hag wins init and proceeds to crit the barbarian with her strong attack - 108 points of damage - 2 points away from instantly killing him as his max is 55 HP)

OSR Any Actual Plays with PoC for OSR Games?

What you posted was a guy who sounds pretty smart and reasonable. Which means he's deliberately lying about the content of the recent interviews. Still not cool.

Not a Conspiracy Theory: Moving Toward Better Criticism in RPGs

All good criticism should quote Tom Cruise in Cocktail.

OSR Any Actual Plays with PoC for OSR Games?

I like it when I guess right. It makes me feel like a detective! (it's also fortunate I'm not a detective, because that isn't how investigation should work)

OSR Any Actual Plays with PoC for OSR Games?

I'm guessing it's one of the spate of videos that deliberately misinterprets Brink's comments about the leadership positions at WotC. Messaging intended to convince people there is widespread anti-White bias in 5e. Did you watch it? How'd I do?

You're about to find out this isn't a great place for monetizing white resent.

D&D General Magitech and Science Fantasy are Fundamental to D&D

Put it this way, one of my favorite series that I read as I was getting into D&D back in high school was Julian May's Saga of the Pliocene Exile. Which led to one of my setting design maxims: "It should always be possible for a character to dig up or be gifted an ancient laser". My current...

Gizmodo: Dungeons & Dragons Has Burned Up All the Goodwill

Oh definitely. I've seen a lot of coverage in the mainstream media. I was just relating my recent experience. Frankly, I was a little surprised that it didn't come up.

Gizmodo: Dungeons & Dragons Has Burned Up All the Goodwill

I think that's true for a lot of the Very (Mostly?) Online segment of the D&D community. But over the weekend I played with 14 people in 2 groups and the OGL fiasco came up zero times in conversation. Both campaigns are 5e. One uses a paid Beyond sub for book-sharing, the other Roll20.
