    D&D 4E 4E wackiness escalation

I think I said higher level, not better fighter. If anybody has multiclassed in his day it is Conan.

    No full attack option?

This is very important to remember. Two weapon fighting may actually have more to do with being able to use two weapons effectively by having access to both sets of manuvers at once. Somebody hefting a rapier and a main gauche without two weapon training may only be able to use the manuvers of...

    No full attack option?

No. You can either get three of them if you push your other two down to swift, or two if you can only demote your move to swift and not your standard. I forget which one it is, but a Second Wind takes three swift actions and I'm pretty sure you can get one on your turn if you do nothing else...

    No full attack option?

More likely, SWSE pulled its actions from a 4e draft so we'll be getting one standard, one move and one swift and the choice to downgrade them standard to move and/or move to swift as needed.

    No full attack option?

Feats are less of a waste if you get them every other class level as well as 1,3,6 etc. Also, we have no idea what sort of talents might be available to a swashbuckler character.

    D&D 4E 4E wackiness escalation

Depends on what Conan you are talking about. Conan the king of Aquilonia might be significantly higher level. Does Mongoose say what period of Conan's career those stats represent?

The fighter and the paladin pretty well ganged up on the knight & stole his stuff

Also, the release date would be pushed back by an order of years.

D&D 4E 4e Special Ability PER Encounter stinks...

F4NBOY, we are all just guessing here. :D No evidence except from SWSE and Iron Heroes and the latter one only because Mike Mearls worked on it.

D&D 4E 4e Special Ability PER Encounter stinks...

This has potential. We'll have to see how 4e handles this. Right now we can have endless arguments about Balin's Tomb being either one or two encounters depending on how you handle the cave troll showing up. edit- Now that I think about it, I'd have it be all one encounter. You KNOW the...

D&D 4E 4e Special Ability PER Encounter stinks...

So every per encounter power you have needs to have a ten round shot clock to see when it becomes available again?

D&D 4E 4e Special Ability PER Encounter stinks...

Those would be "per day" powers. Characters have those too. Those are probably going to be the bigger bang abilities.

D&D 4E 4e Special Ability PER Encounter stinks...

I agree. One minute is what, ten rounds? So not only would you have to keep track of 50 or 100 rounds going by for that sort of system, you might have to keep track of it for multiple powers at a time!

D&D 4E 4e Special Ability PER Encounter stinks...

Probably not going to happen. 4e looks like it is moving away from arbitrarily specific time frames and is going towards arbitrarily specific recovery opportunities.

D&D 4E 4e Special Ability PER Encounter stinks...

As for how long does it take to replenish abilities, that will have to wait for more teasers to come out. Per day powers like spells will probably still need 8 hours of rest. Per encounter abilities will probably need one minute of downtime (IE, not fighting, negotiating, interrogating...

D&D 4E 4e Special Ability PER Encounter stinks...

That is a pretty good rule of thumb for it. The comparisons to a scene might be apt, but sometimes there can be arguments in favor of having an encounter or two in the same scene. I'm sure that 4e will have a pretty exact definition for when an encounter ends and I hope that "Initiative gets...

D&D 4E 4e Special Ability PER Encounter stinks...

I'm not talking adrenalin here, just time to refresh. A room isn't an encounter if nothing is there to encounter and if there isn't an actual combat going on then refreshing should be pretty easy like it is in Bo9S and SWSE.

D&D 4E 4e Special Ability PER Encounter stinks...

In which case each instance might be a separate encounter depending on if the party has enough time to recover. If a DM does anything like send another wave of goblins every nine rounds so the per encounter abilities can't refresh then that DM is being a dick.

So.. how does SWSE work anyway?

Also, it has been mentioned by the developers that SWSE was based on drafts of 4e that had been twisted to fit the Star Wars universe. So you can get an idea of what 4e is like by looking at SWSE, but a primitive 4e is the earliest common ancestor of both games.

D&D 4E 4e Special Ability PER Encounter stinks...

As long as it has to be. The defining aspect isn't so much a period of time as it is when you can get a chance to breathe for a minute or so. If combat keeps trucking along and you don't get a chance to meditate, pray a little, stretch and rest up or whatever then you don't get to refresh your...

    Thoughts on Unhallowed Metropolis

hose of you who don't know already... I give you the intro! Personally I've been waiting for this game to come out for well over a year and I'm glad to say that I'm finally going to see it given form! Not as glad as the designers I imagine, but still. The question poses itself though... I...
