What innovative ways have you come up with for PCs to get together

I usually like players to tell everyone else in the group wha they will be playing. Well atleast the obvious things anway. then I will work with them individually to develop backgrounds. Sometimes in person. More commonly over email. After that I like to spend at least an hour or so working...

50 fantastical cities (or How writers block sunk my campaign world)

I actually have a region likes this called the Bastard states of Tith. It is a large Archipelago that is populated with many small cities often ruled by various pirate and merchant lords. Their big claim to fame though isn't shipping (thats Argos). Tith is the only place in the world were Dark...

50 fantastical cities (or How writers block sunk my campaign world)

Nice one but lets make it secular instead of religious. I want a single "neutral" city that the rulers of the other cities come to meet at and bicker. Sort of like that "senate" city in Star Wars. Name anyone? We'll keep the portals closed for now. So City Name: Tirac Hook- the Grand city of...

DMing charms and compulsions on PCs

It really depends on the group. (i'm currently groupless). In my old group there were 2 DMs, I was one. We would usually let the player run with it. We could usually trust each other to play it to the spirit of the situation instead of trying to be it on a technicality. My character was...

50 fantastical cities (or How writers block sunk my campaign world)

This works because I want to keep a few of the cities "unclaimed". While all the cities have verious dangerous aspects, I want a few of them to be completley uninhabited by "civilised" people. Sort of a lost remnant cities group. Can you think of anything that might be worth hiding in Va-Slasol...

50 fantastical cities (or How writers block sunk my campaign world)

I like this appraoch a little better. Nice spin. We can keep the human populace involved and a little mad but keep the "machines" in control in the background. Need to make sure this doesn't come out as D&D Borg!! But I like it. Lets call it the city of Ghuma. By the way, does anyone know...

    Players that don't keep track

DRIVES ME UP A WALL!!!! But then again, I enjoy the resource managment aspect of the game as a player. I prefer a strict accounting things and items but I also realize not everyone plays for the same reason. My last group fell under the Heroic gaming approach or High opera kind of attitude...

    Monotheism

Yeah, I've just never been a fan. I actuallt killed them back in the mid 80s. I guess no one noticed.:D As far as eliminating the spells whole sale, I thought about doing that and just felt that was too drastic a response to the problem. But I also feel it is very much a flavor point. The...

50 fantastical cities (or How writers block sunk my campaign world)

Gray Iguana Great idea!!! Horrific in its implications!!!!!! To answer some of Furn's questions: Whay do they want more people?? They are running out of people to take care of. They are rationalising an Asimovian style law that requirers them to follow this rule to take care of people. What...

What is the general alignment of dwarves?

I would have to say in only the broadest sense of the concept, Lawful neutral. I would say the common view of dwarves is that of a rigid society with clear values and customes based on community and hard work. I think they are viewed as having as strong sense of tradition and custom.

    Is WOTC/Hasbro mismanaging D&D?

I know Colonel. I have a pair of pliers next to my computer I use to try and keep the number of fish hooks in my mouth to a minimum. I never learn.

50 fantastical cities (or How writers block sunk my campaign world)

Yes. Before the Sundering(apocalyse) there were no Socerers. Now there are. Wizards still exist but wizardry is considered evil to varying degrees in most of the world. Some societies have outlawed it. Others treat it as a don't ask don't tell. So there are no (open) magical universities. At...

50 fantastical cities (or How writers block sunk my campaign world)

I know Johno. I'm laughing reading your post. Its the writers block. You ever look at a huge to do list and just go into brian freeze??? Thats me right now. I have been doing more than just the crunchy stuff and the cities I have posted are actually very detailed. To include things like...

    Is WOTC/Hasbro mismanaging D&D?

Sir Edgar, It seems to be clear you are of the opinion that Hasbro/WoTC is mishandling D&D. That is fine. You are entitled to your opinion and you are very welcome to post that opinion here as often as you like. I'm curious though. Why would you post a poll asking everyone's opnion on the...

50 fantastical cities (or How writers block sunk my campaign world)

I am making a plea for help to probably one of the most creative communities on the web I know. I have been working on my campaign world for the past two years. Mostly focusing on (and play-testing) the mechanics for my little version of fantasy-reality. The crunchy stuff. All the while I have...

    Monotheism

Uh, another point. You will need to decide if you will use the cleric class as defined or rework it. I changed the core class to that of a Priest. Less militaristic. More booky and social. A player IMC can multiclass or follow PRC to make his or her Priest either more of a diplomat or...

    Monotheism

My campaign world is essentially Monothiestic with many religious sects interpreting and worshipping in a different way. The catalyst for this is three fold; 1) Religious Dogma vd. Divine Reality. The one true god is an all powerful diey in absentia similar to an Illuvatar from the...

    Clerics!

I played a (2E) 1/2 Elven cleric of Uller a long time ago. His name was Ballad and he acted more like a ranger than a traditional cleric. Focused most of his healing around herbalism and stuff like that. His favored weapon was a long bow. A few new comers to the group always assumed he was a...
