D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

Obviously, I no longer have the evidence, but I did once ask Cust Serv about knocking out a minion. Now granted, the WotC Cust Serv department was notorious for sometimes contradictory rulings, so take this with a grain of salt, but my group had a Barbarian with the ability to deal thunder...

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

It seems that the approach to the game itself is a factor here. If your campaign consists of murdering monsters, invading their homes, and taking their stuff, or "wacky hijinks" or just "exploring a strange and mysterious world", alignment has no real function, and might even get in the way...

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

I guess I can accept that. I just know that if tomorrow, scientists announced they had empirical proof that there is an afterlife, but to get there, you have to swear off playing Dungeons & Dragons, I'd seriously have to consider the merit of my favorite hobby!

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

I don't really see how killing minions is much different than a high level AD&D Fighter cutting down a dozen kobolds in one combat round or a Wizard obliterating half a goblin tribe with a Fireball chucked into their warrens. The only thing the minion mechanic does differently than 1 HD or less...

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

Is it super often? Probably not, but I do see it from time to time- people who want mechanics in play for certain character classes to lose powers granted to them by a higher, uh, power, if they do something contrary to that entities' desires- which often comes down to alignment infractions for...

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

Modern versions of D&D and it's "D&D-alike cousins" seem to veer further and further away from the alignment system- I can admit, I don't really miss it, as I've never had a positive experience with it as a mechanic. Even in older versions of D&D, while the cracks in the system were never...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season 3 Viewing (Spoilers)

The first thing I thought of was "Lola" from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. but she's a '62, so I guess your point is made!

It's not always 20th century motorbikes, sometimes it's cars!

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season 3 Viewing (Spoilers)

I'm curious why, after his "heel realization", Umberto decided not to re-edit the earlier parts of his documentary. He'd have looked a lot better by excising his conspiracy theories and bias from the finished work. Instead it makes all these wild accusations and lets Starfleet defend...

I hope so! Maybe it's a Kawasaki Ninja! (It obviously isn't, but a man can dream, lol.)

What videogames are you playing in 2025?

Or maybe don't destroy the Caretaker's array and leave the Delta quadrant to it's fate right off the bat. But hey, maybe the game will give us an accurate photon torpedo count!

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season 3 Viewing (Spoilers)

You're not wrong, but I'd expect to see Sulu first. SNW is pretty much it's own thing though, so it's not completely beholden to canon. For example, we could see Chekhov's brother, Piotr (despite the fact that Chekhov imagined him while under the influence of the Beta-XII-A entity; TOS, "Day...

D&D General Disparity in PC levels from same party

Not to mention, 1e certainly had no problem with NPC's of levels beyond 20. For, uh, vast and complex reasons, I'm sure.

Too soon, as I recall, SNW takes place in 2259, Chekhov went to Starfleet Academy in 2263.

D&D General Does anyone recall coming across any magic weapons that return when thrown...other than Dwarven Thrower, Hammer of Thunderbolts or magic boomerangs?

Honestly, I never understand why game designers want to make thrown weapons a pain to use. I know there's people out there who froth at the mouth if someone dual wields hand crossbows (or fires one downwards), but the difficulty of actually playing a thrown weapon build in most games even if...

D&D General Disparity in PC levels from same party

It's all relative. I mean, there's even 1e support for 100th level characters (yes, I know that module is ridiculous. But it still amuses me)!
