D&D 5E (2024) Atlas of Faerun (with some pictures from the internet)

Well, they had gameplay and movel metaplot (ugh) reasons, too: they wanted Faerûn to be smaller so thst groups could trapise across the map more easily following 3E travel rules, when yhe original intent was to make different areas more isolated by the scale.

D&D General The Purple Dragon Knights are tied to an Amethyst Dragon (confirmed)

Metaplot is just simply the worst. I'd just reset the Forgotten Realms back to the 1360s if I were in charge, just put the novels into "one possible campaign path" terrirltory.

Worlds of Design: In the Shadow of Tolkien

It's much weirder than that: some of the Orcs actually have upper class or public school accents in the novels. Thry aren't joined by class, but by occupation: the Orcs all talk like British soldiers from WWI. Some talk like officers, using modern logistical and organizational lingo.

Worlds of Design: In the Shadow of Tolkien

The latter, yes, the former less than yoy may assume: the Hibbit and Lird of the Rings continue to be hot sellers and, importantly, are intergenerational bedtime stories. Tge Hobbitbis being read to children whose parents had it read to them by their parents, who had it read to them by their...

So the DM fiat allowed Sammaster to come back. Open and shut.

So nothing would prevent it in principle based on the rules of the Forgotten Realms or D&D.

What if someone in the Cult of the Dragon used Wish...?

D&D General The Purple Dragon Knights are tied to an Amethyst Dragon (confirmed)

We have no idea other than his picture being in some previews. Seems early to stake a hill to die on, when the options for how and why just based in the established rules of the PHB and DMG are manifold.

D&D General The Purple Dragon Knights are tied to an Amethyst Dragon (confirmed)

Right, but here's the thing, the fun Star Wars novels already went there decades before Disney. In the Thrawn trilogy of blessed memory, even! Is it cheesy, pulp comic book storytelling? Yes. Is the Forgotten Realms a cheesy pulp comic book setting? Also, yes. It's like getting riled up at...

D&D General The Purple Dragon Knights are tied to an Amethyst Dragon (confirmed)

I don't need to :back up" anything, I'm just saying there are a million ways they could bring Sammaster back that would be surprising or out of genre. No point getting preemptively upset before even knowing which FR style malarkey theybare using, it will fit anyways.

I meant they are DC or Marvel comic book levels of storytelling. If Sammaster comes back because of a tiem traveling interdimensional clone, that's just freaking Second-Day in Baldur's Gate.

D&D 5E (2024) Atlas of Faerun (with some pictures from the internet)

Yes, as of the start of 5E they reverted the geography to match the original version, and these maps seem to continuenthat trend.

Honestly, I've read Forgotten teams novels, and this all feels very par for course whatever method they use.

It works for D&D in a way that it is a problem for the MCU because these are RPG products for making games...not fiction. And the FR and D&D have never, wver been "above" DC and Marvel comics.

D&D 5E (2024) How excited are you for the 2 upcoming Forgotten Realms books?

Quite excited, really. First, I quite liked SCAG and have found it useful for the past decade, it was really my introduction to the Forgotten Realms. Second, thr main designer for this book was also the lead on The Book of Many Things, which was excellent. Everything they have previewed ao far...

D&D 5E (2024) Opinions on the Topaz Dragon Reverse Wings?

I like giving the Gem dragons more weirdness, makes them good patrons for Great Old Ones Warlock.

D&D General The Purple Dragon Knights are tied to an Amethyst Dragon (confirmed)

That works for RPGs in a way that it doesn't for fiction worlds, because RPG products are just menus of options for DMs to mine for material. Canon is just a suggestion. Now, will they have some hokey comic book plot explanation of his he came back? Sure, probably, that's how the FR and D&D...

D&D 5E (2024) Atlas of Faerun (with some pictures from the internet)

I don't think Maps has done "Atlas" type stuff before, so this sounds like new functionality.
