D&D General Teased Lorwyn-Shadowmoor Supplement Crosses Magic: the Gathering and D&D

D&D 5E (2024) Quotes from the Monster Manual

Like the marilith beheading a dude on page 204, for example!

D&D 5E (2024) Quotes from the Monster Manual

I somehow missed in my first read-through that it's  the blob of annihilation, singular, like the tarrasque. All this talk about that flavour quote made me realize that! Also, "The Blob lobs a slimy glob" is an EXCELLENT sentence.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

For the most part! There's a tiny few that still have the attack + save thing, to avoid an additional nasty effect, like the Arcanaloth with its Soul Tome. You take the damage if it hits, but you make the save to avoid getting slurped into the book.

D&D 5E (2024) Favourite quirky detail from the new Monster Manual

I like that one of the animated objects' origins is happenstance, with the item becoming animated after 100 years of use. It's a neat little reference to Japanese yōkai folklore, which holds that household objects can come to life after 100 years of being used daily! It's one of the ways I feel...

D&D 5E (2024) Quotes from the Monster Manual

I love how absolutely obscure some of these references are. The crawling claw entry has a quote from the 2e Ravenloft supplement "Van Richten's Guide to the Created", for example.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

I feel that a lot of the hooks and lore in the new MM are tied to deities and gods, more than previously. "An evil god did it" seems to have taken the place of "a wizard did it", at least to some extent.

D&D General Favorite Less Used Low CR Creatures?

I second stirges and twig blights, both of which will appear heavily in my vampire-themed campaign soon!! I'm excited to try their tricks on new players!

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

A funny thing I noticed: the Questing Knight and death knight stat blocks have Phantom Steed as a spell they can cast, but paladins can't cast that spell. Presumably, it's to avoid having them cast Find Steed, which brings forth an additional summoned stat block!

How the Monsters Have Changed in the 2025 Monster Manual: Arcanaloth

Arcanaloths are arguably my favourite D&D monster, and I am a HUGE fan of the new stat block!! They kept enough of the spells to ensure you know it's a spellcaster, and the Soul Tome is very freaking neat! I can see myself doing lots with this critter!!

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

This quote from the winter wolf entry is chilling (literally)! A lot of these little quotes flesh out monster personality well. I also love how each elemental (fire, earth, air, water) has a quote from a genie of that type, explaining why their element is superior. Also a fan of the...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

There's a few things so far I'm not content with (some of the organization changes, mostly, and a few minor typos), but so far, I think this book is very well done!! Some of the things I like so far: Salamanders are now focused on "fire as art", and their evil comes from their lack of regard...

Also! Elder brains! They're mentioned once again in the mind flayer entry, but no stat block in the book!

D&D 5E (2024) What Monster Should Have Made the Cut?

I definitely could've seen the merrenoloth from Mordenkainen Presents Monsters of the Multiverse/Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes making the cut, given how the DMG Cosmology section mentions fiendish captains of River Styx boats. As an aside, I find it interesting that the lacedon ghoul made it...
