D&D General Ed Greenwood: How The Realms Began

Wow, very cool, the TSR UK campaign setting; I could see Moonshaes being its own deal (like I can with Al-Qadim and Kara-Tur), thanks for that.

D&D 5E (2014) Proficiency vs. Ability vs. Expertise

Fantastic game, but we get a much better experience when omitting BAB and +Heroic level from Defences in SWSE. Classes get an attack bonus (+1 to +4), in the same way they get class defence bonuses. While I really like 5th Ed's proficiency bonus, it works great, I just prefer a bit of...

D&D 5E (2014) Proficiency vs. Ability vs. Expertise

Very cool, we have done something similar, but with a 3-tiered (low, medium, high) Proficiency bonus system (the High bonus caps at +8, so, with abilities capping at +4, a total of +12). I like your Expertise deal, we're still playing with ideas for Expertise, nothing is quite satisfying yet...

Pathfinder 2E Complexity vs. Depth -- A Look Inside Pathfinder 2nd Edition

I absolutely agree. I have been involved since the playtest started, and I still feel it is one of the most byzantine, clinical, and dense versions of the game to date. This is the last edition I would attempt to teach to new players. Though it is growing on me, it just doesn't seem that fun...

I like the idea of abilities capping at 18/+4, and proficiency bonus at +8.

D&D 5E (2014) Persuasion - How powerful do you allow it to be?

Could be, Pathfinder has a nice Consolidated Skills variant; and in PF2 Perception is no longer a skill, which I think is a good move. In 5th Ed it's the only skill listed twice for some monsters, in the Skills line, and in the Senses line, seems like they could streamline that.

D&D 5E (2014) Tweaking Reliable Talent and comparing it with Indomitable

Yes, I am just referring to accuracy (there could be grades of proficiency). Also, the fighter should get the 4th attack at level 17, to bring it in line with cantrip scaling.

Is Pathfinder meant to be "boutique D&D?"

It does seem like a game designed for designers; rather clinical and dense.

TSR The Lost City - Goodman Games Next Classic TSR Adventure Revisited

Ha, nice! 3rd Ed's Elder Evils has some good info on him ("The Returner"), and the Fiendish Codices on The Ancient Baatorians.

I hope they go into Zargon and his expanded lore (Ancient Baatorian, ruled the Hells before Asmodeus and the Baatezu).

D&D General Ed Greenwood: How The Realms Began

I'm glad Maztica returned (though it never left in my campaign). I hope they give a little love to it, and of course Al-Qadim (one of my all time favourite settings) and Horde (great boxed set)/Kara Tur.

D&D General Ed Greenwood: How The Realms Began

I'm a pretty big Realms fan, and The Isle of the Mooshaes was my first FR accessory (I also read the first novel, Darkwalker); what was the original vision for the Moonshaes? That and the Grey Box really set the vibe of Faerun for me.

D&D 5E (2014) Persuasion - How powerful do you allow it to be?

I think the amount of social influence skills is bit high; we got Deception, Intimidation, and Persuasion, but is intimidation not a form of persuasion. They are all a form of coercion, could we not have one skill: Influence or Coercion? You can describe how your character goes about this (via...

D&D 5E (2014) Tweaking Reliable Talent and comparing it with Indomitable

Yeah, and I have grown a bit tied of the one proficiency bonus to rule them all. In the playtest there was bit more granularity. It kind of irks me that a 20th level wizard is as skilled/accurate with trained weapons as a 20th level fighter.

D&D 5E (2014) D&D’s Christopher Perkins delves into dark, horrible secrets of the mind flayer

Big Spelljammer fan, here, and I remember an old Dragon magazine (pre-SJ) that had Voidjammers (Astral ships), easy to combine them both for 5th Ed. Not sure if crystal spheres are a thing in 5th Ed, or have they kept it opaque?

D&D 4E Where was 4e headed before it was canned?

You're right. Even though its shelf life was not so long, its product line, was. I think Heroes of the Feywild (the Witch is very cool) was their best latter day piece.
