NEWS; Gunning down the Snyderverse UPDATE Cavill gets the Kryptonite handshake!

Those are some seriously rose-tinted glasses, but you do you. When I interned at Marvel the bullpen folks (inkers, letterers, etc.) did a screening in the office with a bootleg VHS, and it was maybe the funniest moviegoing experience I've ever had. I guess it had that going for it? I kind of...

NEWS; Gunning down the Snyderverse UPDATE Cavill gets the Kryptonite handshake!

Snyder should stop denying himself and just make an entire movie in unbroken slomo.

NEWS; Gunning down the Snyderverse UPDATE Cavill gets the Kryptonite handshake!

In hindsight Gunn seems inevitable—after being a critical laughingstock pretty consistently since Man of Steel, DC must have seen Gunn's rave reviews for The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker as an oasis in the desert. People love to trash or dismiss critics (especially MCU diehards!) but that stuff...

Nominate your favorite TTRPG podcast of 2022

I want to like Effekt, but the fact that one of the hosts basically doesn't follow RPGs or RPG news outside of Free League stuff, and just sort of guffaws and acts surprised through what's usually about half of each episode is a real dealbreaker for me. Plus, when one of them spends 15 minutes...

RTFM (Read The F*cking Manual) Talk Very funny and insightful podcast where two indie designers read older editions of various games. A lot like System Mastery but a very different perspective and sense of humor.

RPG Crowdfunding News – Space 1889, TableTone, Grim Hollow, and more

You sure about that? The British mucking around on Mars, with full-on colonies there and on Venus, is already a pretty huge part of the setting of the original, and Martians certainly aren't high-tech tripod invaders. They're borderline racist "savages" that hurl spears with their feet. And...

RPG Crowdfunding News – Space 1889, TableTone, Grim Hollow, and more

They also could have just called it Space 1889 3rd Edition (or whatever it is), and included updated timeline stuff. Though really, if they think there's real appeal in making it feel substantially later and different from the original, why just do 10 years? Make Space: 1919, and have WWI be an...

RPG Crowdfunding News – Space 1889, TableTone, Grim Hollow, and more

Extremely weird and not great (imo) that they went with "Space 1889: After" instead of "Space: 1899." After has to be the most awkward tag/signal they could have used,

Nominate your MOST ANTICIPATED RPG of 2023 [NOMINATIONS OVER]

Nominating The Walking Dead Universe RPG (from Free League), which is set for a Fall 2023 retail release (following Spring 2023 Kickstarter). See this press release for that timing. That leaves a lot of room for FL to get it on shelves in 2023—Blade Runner only showed up a month late to...

Here Comes THE WALKING DEAD TTRPG!

Today’s RPG landscape is nothing like it was 30 years ago. But also we’re in a golden age of good RPG adaptations, whereas you can count on one or two fingers the good RPG adaptations from that era.

Here Comes THE WALKING DEAD TTRPG!

Yeah it's definitely a mistake to think of Free League's Year Zero Engine as a Savage Worlds or GURPS-like universal toolset. The games share a lot, and differ in important ways, but it's not like they're getting better with each release. Just different.

Here Comes THE WALKING DEAD TTRPG!

It can take a long time for major licensing deals to go through. And I suspect some of the bigger brands didn't get started with that until relatively recently, once D&D's impact became undeniable. ETA: Also, they're desperate to find ways to franchise the hell out of TWD now that the core show...

Bit of a bummer that mythos jokes just never stop.

RPG Crowdfunding News – Kids on Bikes, Home, Scion, and More

Carrion Lands isn't getting a lot of attention—probably because it's on Backerkit, not Kickstarter—but it's worth a look. Great premise and some very cool Cthulhu Dark-ish resource mechanics.

    Traveller?

Out of curiosity, which do you think might be a good fit? I was looking for a good general-purpose SF PbtA game recently, and I wasn't having much luck—in part, probably, because PbtA really works best when it has a very specific premise. But maybe I'm overlooking something.

Stokerverse: A TTRPG Inspired By The Works of Bram Stoker

Anyone have experience with the S5S system in play? I'm intrigued, but I haven't been into the settings they've used it for so far.

    Traveller?

We'll have to agree to disagree on this. I've never seen an SF RPG that attempts to be realistic really work in play. I've heard plenty of GMs talk about their endless SF worldbuilding and how much more true-to-life this or that element is and how they've worked out the details and ramifications...

    Traveller?

If a modern Traveller game leaned all the way into what we now understand as AI advancements and their seeming ubiquity in the future I think it would be a terrible experience. Unless you pull a Dune or similar to explain why everything isn’t AI-ified it would become constant automation by...
