D&D 5E (2024) One D&D origins playtest survey is live

Yeah, trying to get playtest feedback after just two weeks is legitimately bizarre, and makes the whole thing seem sketchy.

Check Out This Preview of the Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game

The fact that "Hurled Shield Deflection" is a power in a supers RPG in 2022 is pretty funny stuff. Is there a "Baton Throw Ricochet" specifically for Daredevil, and "Distractingly Snarky Comment" for Deadpool. What a mess, doing supers as an endless laundry list of slightly different and...

Check Out This Preview of the Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game

Just because someone else previously charged people to playtest their products doesn't make it any less unseemly. But hey, as long as there are massive corporations there'll be people riding to their defense.

    Million Dollar TTRPG Kickstarter Club

Funding goals are pretty meaningless for major KS campaigns. Just another marketing opportunity (funded in 10 minutes! you’re backing a winner!)

    Million Dollar TTRPG Kickstarter Club

Definitely interested in how this one does. It doesn't feel like a blockbuster to me, but maybe the fact that it's sort of generic fantasy, and very close to D&D (but with d20 roll under, instead of over) is actually a selling point?

Anyone Own or Have a Favorite FLGS?

Hm, that's about an hour-and-20-minute drive from me. Might be worth the trip! Now to figure out some other reason to be in Worcester...

Anyone Own or Have a Favorite FLGS?

The Compleat Strategist in NYC has the best overall inventory I've ever seen in a hobby shop, and they're great with mail orders. https://www.thecompleatstrategist.com/

Games Where Player Characters are the Bad Guys

There's a Kickstarter right now for a print run of Wicked Ones, a Forged in the Dark game where you play the monsters that raid the humans and then defend their dungeon from adventurers: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/banditcamp/wo-ua-hardcover/description The campaign is doing well, and...

D&D 5E (2024) I am highly skeptical of the Unreal VTT

This is an underrated and I suspect underreported benefit of VTTs. The chances that we all live within a reasonable distance of the folks we started gaming with in school are awfully slim. But the chance that some number of that group have internet connections and time for a few hours of gaming...

    Recommended a hard-science space RPG

I hear you. But you might be painting yourself into a corner with this notion of realism. If I were you I'd use Mongoose Traveller and set it in your setting of choice. Could absolutely do Terradyne, for example, or The Expanse, with minimal tweaks.

    Recommended a hard-science space RPG

I was always a big fan of GURPS Terradyne as a hard SF setting. Stays within the solar system, feels lived-in and realistic but with plenty of adventuring options: http://www.sjgames.com/gurps/books/terradyne/ And GURPS is basically tailor-made for hard SF.

Recommend me a Space Opera RPG

There was a thread a while back that got into the weeds discussing different definitions of space opera, but I believe the OP is using the term in the broadest but also oldest sense, which is basically starfaring, nonhard SF. If you want to really get into things, a lot of folks would call Star...

Jamison Stone & Satine Phoenix's Apotheosis Studio To Wind Down [UPDATED]

I'm certainly not against regulating businesses. But there are such immensely more damaging and rapacious industries and companies out there in need of regulations, ones actively destroying lives and our climate, that by the time Kickstarter would make sense to target we'll all be fighting for...

Jamison Stone & Satine Phoenix's Apotheosis Studio To Wind Down [UPDATED]

This has been mentioned already, but I think it bears repeating that the scale at which Kickstarter operates makes it completely impossible for them to chase down individual campaign creators for refunds, or more likely to sue all of them. To do so would kill any profits on their part, choke the...

Recommend me a Space Opera RPG

Yes, one of the many excellent things about Mongoose Traveller is that it's almost completely compatible with original Traveller stuff.

Recommend me a Space Opera RPG

Joining the chorus here re: Mongoose Traveller, especially since you're looking for an "ordinary people" campaign. It's a great, straightforward system, especially if you plan to use a homebrew setting. The skills aren't really setting-specific at all, and most of the equipment and ships are...

    Chaosium Suspends NFT Plans

Untamed Isles was supposed to be a MMORPG, which you should always be extremely leery of on Kickstarter. So yeah, always exercise a ton of caution with any videogame Kickstarters. But no, you don't need to assume TTRPG Kickstarters are crypto-involved. If they are, then chances are you're...

    [BLADERUNNER] Updated EARLY ACCESS materials.

Well, you said, "The system changed since Aliens and Vaesen. It appears to be more polished..." and then went on to directly compare the mechanics of BR and older YZE games. So...if words mean anything, you were definitely saying that the system is more polished. I'm just trying to point out...

    [BLADERUNNER] Updated EARLY ACCESS materials.

The details really matter, though, like how different the Push mechanics are across all of those games. And even if it's true that there are now two main forks (never mind that BR does advantage while T2K does more granular steps up and down in dice types, plus T2K has ammo dice and BR has...

    [BLADERUNNER] Updated EARLY ACCESS materials.

Again, this assumes they have a single version of the engine that's getting refined over time. They use multiple dice types for some games and d6s for others, panic sometimes, sometimes not. Vaesen and Alien both came out after Forbidden Lands, and both use d6 pools. So far they've modified the...
