New Core Class: The Rune Adept

For those of you who don't want to download the attachment... The Rune Adept There are many ways to manipulate arcane magic. One such way is Rune magic, an archaic mode of spellcasting. Though Rune Adepts cast spells just as wizards or sorcerers do, their true power lies in their Rune...

New Core Class: The Rune Adept

I'm really not surprised that somewhere out there a similar published class exists, but I don't think that because of that, my Rune Adept class is obsolete. What other class abilities does that class have? How do you think it compares to mine? What do you think it accomplishes better? Plese...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Feats Listed

I seem to recall seeing in some D20 game that the +2 to 2 skill feats were resolved into a single feat where the player got to pick and choose what skill received the bonus. Why not considate all these feats into one? Assuming that Skill Focus gives a +3 bonus, I see no reason not to.

Just how far can a person see anyway?

I think a better question is not "how far can a person see?" but rather "how far can a person target?" Assuming optimal conditions, a person can likely see more than far enough, so the Spot DC in the DMG would be used to determine not whether or not the person could see the target, but whether...

Opinions requested: What would it take to "fix" the monk class?

Flexibility*: As is, most Monk's of any given level have the same powers. I think it should be more like the Rogue's high level special abilities: At certain levels they should pick and choose from a number of special abilities and bonus feats. Of course for such a system to be balanced...

    Does the Monk class stink?

I have been playing a Monk character for about a year-and-a-half. He is just getting into the mid levels (we level very slowly and switch between campaigns) and my experience has been that the Monk class is well balanced and useful in almost any situation. Situations from my personal...

    Should I become a Rule's Lawyer?

my party doesn't really have a wizard at the moment. Also he doesn't have attendants... And he's an elf (Drow actually) so he doesn't sleep. Perhaps a better explanaition of the situation is in order. Originally the campaign was all one group and we were allowed to be any alignment. The evil...

    Should I become a Rule's Lawyer?

Unfortunatley, my PC has no money and limited resources, while his has near-unlimited resources, and mountains of gold. He also has the annoying habit of having items identified by high-level spellcasters before he uses them. Also, as a mortal enemy, I doubt he would trust such a gift.

    Should I become a Rule's Lawyer?

There are a couple of charcters who are multiclass sorcerers but only 1 or 2 levels so they can't cast high enough level spells that metamagic has ever been an issue

    Should I become a Rule's Lawyer?

Posted by blackshirt5: The problem is, he has a whole evil organization at his back, not to mention potential armies of undead, tons of money, and lots of magical items. While I have goodness and right on my side (well lawful-neutrality at least), I still am at a distinct disadvantage. It...

    Should I become a Rule's Lawyer?

posted by Tom Cashel: So does that mean that, as a DM, you wouldn't want to know when you had made a mistake or a bad ruling? Doesn't being wrong and being TOLD your wrong ultimately make you a better DM?

    Should I become a Rule's Lawyer?

Yes but much of my enjoyment of the campaign comes from my PC. Also all of my leverage comes from the PC. MY character is the only one who has been around since the beginning of the campaign and as such, the other characters often defer to mine because he has seen and done tthe most and is the...

    Should I become a Rule's Lawyer?

I've been playing in my current campaign for about a 18 months. The DM has a alot of RPG experience but not much experience with 3E, and often plays fast & loose with the rules. We don't use miniatures, we usually just go around the table rather than counting down initiative, etc. Over the...

But my character is smarter than I am!

As is invariably mentioned in any thread on IQ and intelligence, intelligence DOES NOT equal IQ. Also, I've always thought that the ability to think quickly on ones feet and strategize was represented by Wisdom rather than intelligence. If you Wisdom score isn't all that great then your...

Monk based feat - No Holding Back

an intersting idea, but why limit it to just Monks an unarmed attacks? One of tthe drawbacks of the Monk class is supposed to be that they don't hit every time. I suggest you limit the loss/bonus to no more than +5.

    Best favored enemies?

posted by tennyson: Actually, Werewolves, and all lycanthropes, are shapechangers so he would recieve the bonus not only against Werewolves, but all other lycanthropes as well as shapechanging creatures such as Dopplegangers. Apparently though, as someone else already mentioned, the...

Questions about monk's attack and Magic Fang/wild shape

    1. Yes you are correct 2 & 3. Yes your off-hand attack is affected, or at least should be. The Monk's unarmed attack ability represents a single natural weapon. Regadless of with what body part he is delivering an attack it is always an unarmed attack. Some creatures have different attack...
